Impact Wrestling announced the re-signing of Eli Drake (Shaun Ricker) to a new contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Powell’s POV: We reported on the Dot Net Weekly audio show weeks ago that Drake had signed a short-term extension with the company. It looks like the two sides have hammered out a long-term deal since then. It’s a good signing for Impact given that Drake strikes me as having big upside as a babyface or a heel.

  1. On Sean Waltman’s podcast a few weeks ago, Drake said he signed a two-month extension at the end of May while he considered his options. He suggested a return to WWE or greater focus on pursuits outside of wrestling might be among his options. But he also said a lot of positive things about the current environment at Impact AND stressed that he’s always been paid on time by the company.

Really glad he re-signed. He does have a bright future.

  2. Important building block and a comforting message to other wrestlers Impact is interested in signing long term. Drake is smart for not chasing the money up front and ending up in mid card limbo with WWE until his value sinks to nothing.
