NBC Universal plans to bring back the picture-in-picture advertisements during the WWE Smackdown television broadcasts. Broadcastingcable.com reports that that the concept, which was tested last year, will be used again beginning later this month or next month. [Thanks to Dot Net Member Ernesto Cruz]

Powell’s POV: The story notes that ratings were up 13 percent during the commercial breaks where this approach was used during Smackdown last year. It was a cool approach as viewers were able to see the full match rather than missing out on part of it during a traditional commercial break. The story also states that WWE Network leads all advertisers on the USA Network this year, having spent $742,418 thus far.
