Tag Team Division: While it was a simple round robin promo that laid the groundwork for the immediate future in the tag division, this show closing segment was well done. Gargano and Ciampa, American Alpha and The Revival all gave clear, to the point promos, before we got a nice announcement from William Regal of Revival vs. Alpha in a best of three falls match and the impactful beatdown from the Authors of Pain. Simple, but effective.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. Hype Bros: Expectations were not high based on what we usually get from the Hype Bros (or more accurately, what we get from Mojo). In a stark contrast, this match was very entertaining. Mojo has changed things up slightly, and is better for it. They also had the good sense to give the team on the ascendance the win in Ciampa and Gargano.
Carmella vs. Alexa Bliss: Initially, I worried I would sour on this match because it felt like the “Battle of the Bridesmaids”. Both women have been treading water for a while now, never really feeling like they were going anywhere. However, this was actually a really enjoyable match. It highlighted, above all else, how far both of these women have come since their debuts. Yes, neither come off as credible threats to Asuka, but you could say that is true of 90 percent of female wrestlers the world over.
NXT Misses
Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Noah Potjes: Phillips said something along the lines of “Andrade Almas is really making himself stand out”. Is he? This may be the most lackluster debut in NXT history. We all remember the disaster that was Hideo Itami’s first month (where is he exactly, by the way?), but that was just bad. Having a boring debut may be an even bigger sin.
