NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa is scheduled to undergo neck surgery. Sean Radican of PWTorch.com reports that the surgery will be performed in the next few days. The original plan was for Ciampa to work through WrestleMania weekend before taking time off for the surgery. Radican’s story also credits Dave Meltzer of WrestlingObserver.com as the first to report on Ciampa’s need for neck surgery.
Powell’s POV: It’s bizarre that WWE officials were seemingly aware of Ciampa’s need for surgery and yet they still called him up to the main roster. Ciampa is unable to wrestle and drop the NXT Championship, so it will be interesting to see how NXT goes about crowning the next champion. All signs pointed toward Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano at the NXT Takeover event in New York, but the match was never officially advertised.
