Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson continues to tease the possibility of running for U.S. President in 2020. Johnson was asked by a fan at the Los Angeles Comic Con on Saturday whether he will run for the office. “I think the ‘People’s President’ has a really nice ring to that,” Johnson responded. “I’ll just say that.” Read a recap of his appearance at EW.com.
Powell’s POV: A couple of friends have told me they would vote for Johnson if he chooses to run. It’s astonishing to me in that you’d think people would like to know what he or any potential candidate stands for politically before making that decision. If nothing else it’s a fun story to follow and it gets him some easy publicity.
He couldn’t be any worse than what the two “major parties” offered in 2016.
That’s how a lot of people felt when Trump announced he was running for office. And here we are today. The point is that we should at least know what a person stands for, not vote for someone because we like their movies, etc. Maybe Rock would be a tremendous candidate. Maybe not. I had this conversation with the friends who said they would vote for Rock. I asked if they even know if the leans left or right. This led to them bickering for five minutes about whether he’s a Democrat or Republican. That really said it all for me.
