A video package opened the show, and then pyro shot off on the stage… Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone were on commentary. Excalibur touted that the show was sold out…
Ring announcer Arkady Aura conducted the introductions for the opening match while the entrances took place. Pac entered through the crowd. Renee Paquette spoke about the match from ringside. Andrade El Idolo made his entrance with three women and his contract for a shot at the AEW World Championship. The broadcast team noted that he must give one week’s notice before that title match will be held. Schiavone once again made Andrade a little less cool by telling viewers how cool Andrade is…
1. Andrade El Idolo vs. Pac (w/Marina Shafir) for the AEW National Championship. Pac performed a German Suplex. Andrade got up and put Pac down with a spinning back elbow. Andrade sold the elbow by slowly going for the cover, resulting in a two count.
Shafir went after Andrade’s nose while Pac distracted the referee. Excalibur said Andrade’s charm did not affect Shafir (how you know?). A short time later, Shafir charged Andrade on the floor, but Andrade sidestepped her and pushed her over the barricade.
Andrade eventually posed for a selfie with a female fan. Shafir showed up and choked out the “fan” with a sleeper. Pac hit the distracted Andrade from behind. Pac followed up with a top rope moonsault onto Andrade on the floor. Shafir hopped the barricade and was back at ringside.
A short time later, Pac performed a top rope huracanrana. Andrade was right back on his feet and hit a spinning back elbow. Pac scrambled and escaped the ring before Andrade could pin him. Andrade followed to the floor and charged Pac, who suplexed him against the barricade.
Back in the ring, Andrade avoided Pac’s Black Arrow. Andrade set up for The DM, but Shafir climbed onto the apron and distracted him. Andrade wanted a kiss on the cheek, and she said she’d do it, but Pac performed a Poison Rana. Pac ran the rope and hit a big lariat. Pac applied the Brutalizer, but Andrade rolled on top of him and got the three count.
Andrade El Idolo defeated Pac in 18:40 to retain the AEW National Championship.
Powell’s POV: I could have done without Andrade taking big moves and popping right up, but it was a good opener overall. I liked Shafir’s role in the match, even if the interference turned off some viewers.
A video package set up the match to determine the No. 1 contenders to the AEW Tag Team Titles. Entrances for the match followed. Steven stood on the middle rope and played to the fans until Fletcher pulled his legs out from under him. Steven bounced on the top rope and landed smoothly on his feet…
2. Darby Allin and Steven Borden vs. Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight to determine the No. 1 contenders to the AEW Tag Team Titles. Don Callis sat in with the broadcast team. On the floor, Knight whipped Darby toward the ring steps, but he did a handspring into a flip toward Fletcher, who caught him and powerbombed him on top of the steps. Back in the ring, Fletcher covered Darby for a two count.
Fletcher lawn darted Darby into the middle turnbuckle. Callis questioned when the match would be stopped to save Darby from himself. Darby made a hot tag while he was over Fletcher’s shoulder, but the referee was busy arguing with Knight and missed it. Darby sent Fletcher and Knight crashing into one another and made a hot tag.
Borden had a nice flurry of offense on both opponents. Borden went for a Stinger Splash, but Fletcher moved, and Borden tumbled over the top rope to the floor. Fletcher and Knight ran Borden into the barricade. Darby hit Fletcher with a suicide dive that sent Fletcher’s head slamming against the side of the broadcast team’s desk. Knight jumped off the broadcast table and clotheslined Darby.
Back in the ring, Borden and Knight stood on the top rope. They dove at one another, and both men were down. The referee called for Doc Sampson, who entered the ring and checked on Borden. A replay showed that Borden and Knight basically reached out with their hands to slap the other’s chests just to make some contact, but Borden’s head hit the mat hard. The bell rang to end the match, and the ring announcer named Fletcher and Knight the winners…
Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight defeated Darby Allin and Steven Borden via ref stoppage in 12:25 to become the No. 1 contenders to the AEW Tag Team Titles.
The broadcast team spoke at their desk about the stoppage. The heels gloated as they exited. Taz said that the priority is for the men and women in the ring regardless of who likes it. He spoke about his own experience. The fans started applauding while Excalibur was saying that AEW has the best medical team in the business. Excalibur said Borden was leaving the ringside area, but he was not shown. He said they would pass along any updates they get during the show…
Powell’s POV: Borden’s head hit the mat, and he immediately struck the fencing pose that is common with concussions. I’m not sure what Borden and Knight were going for, but the timing seemed off. Here’s wishing Borden the best.
Excalibur acknowledged the awkward transition as they shifted to footage from Wednesday’s Collision of Persephone and Britt Baker’s backstage promo. They agreed to face Thunder Rosa and Hyan and Dynamite, and Persephone announced the open challenge for anyone other than Rosa or Hyan…
Persephone made her entrance with Britt Baker. The open challenger, Dani Luna, made her entrance to a quiet crowd…
3. Persephone vs. Dani Luna (w/Britt Baker) for the TBS Championship. The broadcast team said Persephone and Baker seemed to expect that someone from within the AEW locker room would have taken the challenge.
