WWE Raw results (7/20): Powell’s live review of Jacob Fatu vs. LA Knight, Penta and Chad Gable vs. Ethan Page and Rusev, Seth Rollins’ promo

Powell’s Note: My apologies to anyone who was hoping to read my usual live review on Monday night. I was informed late in the day that my uncle Terry, who’d been hospitalized, was going to be removed from life support. He was doing well on Sunday afternoon, but things took a major turn for the worse overnight. He’s a fighter and is still with us as I write this shortly after 2:00 on Tuesday morning. As much as I wish for a miracle, the hospital staff says it’s only a matter of time. The family is at peace with it, as the last thing we want is for him to suffer. Thanks to everyone who sent well wishes after reading the brief note that I wrote on this page before I raced out the door earlier. – Update: Uncle Terry died on Tuesday morning.

[Hour One] Raw opened with a Saturday Night’s Main Event recap video… Michael Cole checked in on commentary and was eventually joined by Corey Graves. Cole said there were over 11,000 fans in attendance. Cole narrated arrival shots of The Vision’s Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, Austin Theory, and Maxxine Dupri, Intercontinental Champion Penta, Chad Gable, The Bloodlines Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso, and LA Knight and Royce Keys…

Ring announcer Alicia Taylor delivered the introductions for the opening match while the entrances took place…

1. World Tag Team Champions Bron Breakker and Austin Theory (w/Maxxine Dupri, Logan Paul) vs. Je’Von Evans and Dragon Lee in a non-title match. Cole assumed that Evans and Lee could earn a title shot with a win. Evans and Lee performed dives onto the champions. The referee started the match once Theory and Evans were inside the ring.

Cole said Paul Heyman was conspicuous by his absence. Cole wondered if Heyman was finished with The Vision or showing them tough love. There were loud “Logan sucks” chants at least twice. Lee put Breakker down with a DDT and covered him for a near fall. Cole assumed that The Vision would be at full strength soon because Logan and Bronson Reed are ahead of schedule in their recovery from injuries.

Lee performed a dive from the top rope, but Breakker caught him and slammed him to the mat before the first commercial break. [C] Cole listed the attendance as 11,408. Evans dropped to his back to avoid a Theory clothesline, then kipped up and performed a Stunner that sent Theory to the floor. Evans showed off his t-shirt before running the ropes and performing a dive onto Theory on the floor. Evans looked into the camera and talked, then sidestepped Breakker going for a spear and sent him into the timekeeper’s area.

Evans did a lap around the ring and then dove over the barricade onto Breakker in the timekeeper’s area. Back in the ring, Evans performed a springboard clothesline on Theory before covering him for a near fall. A “this is awesome” chant broke out. Lee tagged in and got Theory hanging from the ropes before performing a double stop from the ropes.

Dupri grabbed Lee’s leg while Logan distracted the referee, and then Breakker clotheslined Lee. Theory performed a neckbreaker over his knee and had Lee pinned, but Evans broke it up. Breakker ran in and speared Evans, then rushed back to his corner and was tagged in. Theory held Lee while Breakker ran the ropes and speared him. Breakker covered Lee for the three count.

World Tag Team Champions Bron Breakker and Austin Theory defeated Je’Von Evans and Dragon Lee in 9:45 in a non-title match.

After the match, Otis and Akira Tozawa headed to the ring and got the better of Breakker and Theory. Tozawa performed a suicide dive on Breakker. Otis slammed Theory. Dupri entered the ring and slapped Otis. Breakker returned, but Otis saw him coming and clotheslined him. Otis hit Breakker and Theory in opposite corners, then hit them both with a corner splash.

Otis clotheslined Theory over the top rope. Otis and Tozawa cleared the broadcast table. Otis set up for a powerbomb on Theory, but Breakker cut him down with a spear. Back in the ring, Theory drilled Tozawa with a left hand. Breakker tossed Otis back inside the ring. Dupri sat on the top turnbuckle and watched while Theory held Otis, and Breakker ran the ropes before spearing him. The Vision members stood tall over Otis…

Powell’s POV: A really good tag team match. That was fun. Evans and Lee’s flashy offense had the live crowd rocking before the champions got some help from their allies and stole the pin. It was a long shot, but I thought there was a chance that Evans and Lee might go over to set up a rematch for the titles at SummerSlam. I continue to suspect that Otis and Tozawa will get the SummerSlam title match, especially since Otis is considered a hometown guy in the host state of Minnesota, having grown up right across the river in Superior, Wisconsin. Also, WrestleTix listed the venue as being set up for 11,385 with 10,972 tickets distributed. The total number of seats on the map is 18,306. The last time WWE ran the venue for a Raw show, 14,526 tickets were distributed for the back on July 28, 2025 (they distributed 6,683 tickets for the December 30, 2025, holiday tour live event.

A Fanatic Fest video aired. It included Tom Brady playing to the crowd and saying he thinks he could get in the ring for one match. They also included shots of Brady slapping Logan Paul…

Backstage, JD McDonagh had Danhausen by the collar while Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan stood by. McDonagh demanded to know where their money was. Danhausen said he didn’t have it. Morgan threatened to bust open Danhausen with her Women’s World Championship belt. Dom gave Danhausen 30 seconds to find the money, or they would break his jaw…

A Big Cass vignette aired. Headlines were shown regarding his personal issues and when he tore his ACL. “Even if you haven’t reached the top, you have no idea just how far you can fall,” Cass said. The 8/3 graphic was shown again before the commercial break… [C]

Danhausen made his entrance carrying a satchel. “How can you not love this guy?” Cole asked. Graves said it’s because he has a fully functional brain. Funny. Graves said Danhausen is a nice guy, but he doesn’t exactly feel comfortable having him around.

“Hello, Detroithausen,” Danhausen started. He said he thought he took care of Judgment Day at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but they still want their “human money” back. Danhausen said he doesn’t want it, but he doesn’t want Judgment Day to have it. “How about we give it to the Fanhausens?” he asked.

Judgment Day’s Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, and Liv Morgan headed to the ring and demanded that Danhausen hand over their money. Danhausen cursed them and tried to leave the ring, but Dom and McDonagh caught him and roughed him up. Dom and McDonagh held Danhausen while Morgan slapped him.

Joe Hendry made his entrance and cleared Dom and McDonagh from the ring. Morgan grabbed the satchel, and the heels took it to the back…

Alan’s POV: “It’s where I keep all my things. I get a lot of compliments on this. Plus, it’s not a man purse. It’s called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.”

A brief video showed Seth Rollins cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase and then pinning Roman Reigns to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 31. The video featured voiceover comments from both men…

Backstage, Adam Pearce bickered with Dom, McDonagh, and Morgan. Danhausen and Hendry showed up. McDonagh discovered that there was fake money in the satchel. McDonagh tossed the satchel behind him.

Oba Femi entered the picture holding the satchel. Oba asked if it was McDonagh’s bag. McDonagh said it belonged to Danhausen, who said McDonagh threw it. Pearce booked Oba vs. McDonagh, then booked Hendry vs. Dominik for later in the show. On commentary, Cole asked Graves if he believed in the curse now. Graves said he was starting to…

Oba Femi made his entrance to the usual chants. A split screen was used to show Oba strutting on one side, while the other side showed fans strutting with him… [C]

JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio made their entrance with Adam Pearce walking behind them and ordering McDonagh to get in the ring. Joe Hendry and Danhausen ran out and tossed the heels inside the ring, where Oba clotheslined both men. Oba tossed Dom over the top rope and then the referee called for the bell to start the match…

2. Oba Femi vs. JD McDonagh. McDonagh surprised Oba with a couple of kicks to the gut, but Oba came right back with a big backbody drop. Oba performed running uppercuts on McDonagh, then tossed him across the ring. Oba hit the Fall From Grace and got the three count.

Oba Femi defeated JD McDonagh in 0:55.

Oba looked into a camera and said no more BS or “fake money stuff.” He said the real money is in Hell in a Cell, and he said he would see Brock Lesnar there…

Powell’s POV: A quick, crowd-pleasing Oba squash.

The broadcast team announced that Darius “Don’t Call Me Hootie” Rucker will perform the national anthem at SummerSlam…

LA Knight and Royce Keys were shown talking backstage while Cole hyped Knight’s match with Jacob Fatu for later in the show… [C] Graves hyped a Zuffa Boxing event featuring Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn for September 12 in Las Vegas…

Cole recapped footage of Jalen Brunson visiting Rhea Ripley at Fanatics Fest. Cole said he attended the event on Sunday, and Graves said he had yet to attend, but it’s on his calendar, and he hopes to make it next year.

Solo Sikoa walked past the broadcast table and entered the ring. Solo said he’s not even supposed to be on “this show.” Solo said he had a proposition to make and then called for Seth Rollins to join him. Rollins’ entrance music played, and he made his entrance.

Powell’s POV: Rollins came right out when Solo called for him. Um, maybe he was hanging out at the Gorilla Position all night since WWE advertised he was going to open this show?

Once in the ring, Rollins said that since Solo doesn’t go here, he wanted to be the first to welcome him to Monday Night Rollins. Rollins asked what he could do for Solo since Solo was on his show. Rollins asked if they were talking or fighting. The fans called for a fight, and there were some boos when Solo said he was there to talk.

Solo said Rollins has to know that his match against Roman Reigns won’t be one-on-one. The fans gave Solo the “What?” treatment. Solo said it would be a four-on-one situation due to the other Bloodline members. Solo said he could watch Rollins’ back at SummerSlam.

Rollins said Solo made a lot of good points and said they might be able to do something special if they work together. “You know what, let me think about it, Uce,” Rollins said. Rollins was going to leave the ring, but Solo stopped him and said there was nothing to think about. Solo said he could do for Rollins what Rollins did for Cody Rhodes.

Jacob Fatu made his entrance. Solo motioned for Rollins to call him. Solo exited the ring. Fatu entered the ring and yelled that Solo knew what he had to do. Fatu said he could “dog walk Solo’s ass.” Fatu turned into a Rollins superkick. Rollins smiled and exited the ring. Cole said the superkick didn’t do Rollins any favors because he made an enemy out of Fatu…

Cole set up footage of Intercontinental Champion Penta going face-to-face with Chad Gable at Sunday’s SummerSlam Kickoff event in New York. Cole said that before Penta and Gable face off at SummerSlam, they would team up tonight…

Ethan Page and Rusev made their entrance for the tag team match… [C]

[Hour Two] Cole hyped the season three premiere of WWE Unreal for Tuesday on Netflix. Footage aired of CM Punk cutting a promo on Cena while dressed as old school Cena. They showed Punk walking up to Cena and lowering the mic at one point before saying, “I will miss you.” Cena looked a little emotional as he recalled the moment for the Unreal cameras. Punk said he was trying to pull Cena into the moment…

Chad Gable made his entrance to his cheesy entrance theme, and then he stood in the ring and did the silly clap. Most fans blew off the obvious hope that they would do Gable’s clap with him. Penta made his entrance…

3. Intercontinental Champion Penta and Chad Gable vs. Ethan Page and Rusev. The heel duo attacked Penta and Gable right after the referee called for the opening bell. Rusev ran Penta into the ring steps heading into an early break. [C]

Graves said it had to be hard for Page to compete in Detroit because he’s a national hero right across the river. Cole said Page was recognized by the Canadian government (as he damn well should have been!). Gable put Page down with an Angle Slam before covering him for a near fall.

Gable went for a top rope moonsault, but he had to land on his feet because Page moved. Page got Gable in his corner and tagged in Rusev, who joined Page in throwing knees and kicks at Gable. Rusev slammed Gable to the mat and covered him, but Penta broke it up with a kick. Penta went for a springboard move, but Page caught him with a right hand. Page tried to throw Penta out of the ring, but Penta reversed it and then hit Page with a tope con hilo.

Rusev and Gable traded punches in the middle of the ring. Gable tried to hoist up Rusev, who stuffed it and then applied the Accolade. Gable got to his knees and was about to break the hold when Rusev headbutted him from behind. Penta went to the ropes, only to have Rusev shove Gable into the corner to knock him down. Rusev went for the Accolade again, but Gable slipped away and caught him in the ankle lock. Page tried to break it up, but Penta hit him with a Mexican Destroyer. Rusev tapped to the ankle lock.

Intercontinental Champion Penta and Chad Gable defeated Ethan Page and Rusev in 8:35.

Gable’s entrance theme played afterward while he picked up the Intercontinental Title and handed it to Penta. Graves said he’s a big Chad Gable guy aside from when he turns every arena into the biggest Dad Rock concert…

Powell’s POV: Graves speaks the truth. A nice tag match. It wasn’t as hot as the tag team opener, but the fans were into it. I hope the creative team does more with Page after SummerSlam. He’s getting television time, but I’d like to see him back in the Intercontinental Title mix.

Footage aired from Money in the Bank 2016 of Seth Rollins beating Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. There were voiceovers from both men. Reigns said that night was terrible for him…

Powell’s POV: The Roman and Rollins clips are brief, but I like that they are showing examples of Rollins having Roman’s number.

Backstage, Seth Rollins laughed as he dared Jacob Fatu to hit him. Rollins said Fatu was clearly under strict orders not to place a finger on him. “When I beat Roman at SummerSlam, do I get his title and his bag boy?” Rollins said before laughing. Fatu said Rollins got one up on him earlier, but he bet it wouldn’t happen again. “If there’s anything left of you after SummerSlam, I’m a beat your ass,” Fatu yelled. Rollins said he couldn’t wait… [C]

Cole narrated more footage from Fanatics Fest…

Powell’s POV: I don’t know how much Fanatics pays WWE for this promotion, but they’re showing that event more love after the fact than they do many of their own premium live events.

Paul Heyman was featured in a video discussing Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi in a Hell in a Cell match. Heyman said he was asked not to use the word violence. He questioned how he was supposed to sell the Cell without telling fans the truth about what awaits Oba in Minneapolis. Heyman said the Cell is unforgiving and the structure is uncompromising. Heyman said the violence is extreme. Heyman said that Oba is “Oba-rated.” He said everyone thinks the streak that Lesnar has put together of never losing inside Hell in a Cell comes to an end at SummerSlam, but it’s the other way around.

Heyman said Oba has delivered the greatest rookie year in WWE since Lesnar. Heyman said “this next Next Big Thing” thinks he will rule over Lesnar in Hell in a Cell, but the truth is that Oba can’t beat Lesnar in Hell in a Cell. Heyman said Oba’s rookie year won’t go down in history because of how dominant Oba was against the entire roster. Rather, Heyman said Oba’s rookie year will go down in history when it comes to a violent end at the hands of Lesnar…

Powell’s POV: Excellent delivery from Heyman. It was Jake Roberts-like at times in that he lowered his voice to a whisper at times, which really forces the viewers to pay close attention.

The SummerSlam ad aired with Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who plugged the “JJETS” code for $25 tickets… Cole hyped SummerSlam Takeover for July 31 through August 2 at the Minneapolis Convention Center…

A sponsored “Fact of the Night” listed that Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have combined for 13 world championships…

Footage aired of The Shield reuniting. Rollins said in a voiceover that it never felt right. Reigns stated in his voiceover that it was lost time before the Tribal Chief that he will never get back. Reigns said it never should have happened…

Cole hyped Reigns vs. Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam…

Dominik Mysterio made his entrance with Liv Morgan… [C] Highlights aired of the Gunther and Nick Aldis altercation at the SummerSlam Kickoff event, followed by Paul Levesque announcing their match for SummerSlam…

Joe Hendry was in the ring swaying while his entrance theme played…

4. Joe Hendry vs. Dominik Mysterio (w/Liv Morgan). Hendry held up Dom and walked before capping off an early vertical suplex. Hendry charged toward Dom, who caught him with a boot and then tossed him to the floor. Dom went for a suicide dive, but Hendry caught him and dumped him onto the broadcast table. Hendry threw Dom back inside the ring. While the referee tended to Dom, Morgan ran Hendry into the ring post.

Danhausen came out and started to curse Morgan, but she punched him before he could finish. Danhausen ran to the stage. [C] Hendry suplexed Dom and followed up with a fallaway slam. Hendry performed a spinning clothesline, which Cole called The Hit Single, for a near fall. Morgan distracted Hendry, and then Dom put him down with a tornado DDT.

Danhausen drove his car onto the stage with Iyo Sky as his passenger. Sky ran to the ring and fought with Morgan. Sky ran Morgan into the apron and then rolled her inside the ring. Sky hit a springboard missile dropkick that sent Morgan to the floor. “There’s still a match going on, right?” Cole asked. Sky jumped off the apron onto Morgan on the floor.

Danhausen entered the ring and hit the DDD (Danhausen Death Drop) while the referee was focused on Sky and Morgan. Hendry looked around and then covered Dom for the win. Danhausen did Hendry’s post-match routine with him…

Joe Hendry beat Dominik Mysterio.

Powell’s POV: You had to know Hendry was going over because of Danhausen’s curse, but at least it wasn’t a title match.

Highlights aired of the CM Punk and Cody Rhodes confrontation at the SummerSlam Kickoff event…

LA Knight was shown warming up backstage… [C] Graves hyped the WWE Unreal season three premiere for Tuesday on Netflix… A video package recapped the Roman Reigns and Jalen Brunson segment from Saturday Night’s Main Event, along with the appearances of Seth Rollins and Tyrese Haliburton…

Cole and Graves were shown at their broadcast table. Cole announced Danhausen vs. Dominik Mysterio for SummerSlam…

The following matches were announced for next week’s Raw in Los Angeles, California, at the Intuit Dome: World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins meet face-to-face, World Tag Team Champions Bron Breakker and Austin Theory vs. Otis and Akira Tozawa in a non-title match, Sol Ruca vs. Raquel Rodriguez for the Women’s Intercontinental Title, Joe Hendry and Danhausen in concert, and the weigh-in for Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match…

LA Knight made his entrance to a strong ovation. Knight stood in the ring and spoke about teaming with Solo Sikoa and Royce Keys in a SummerSlam match against Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso.

Knight said it was already tough to trust Solo, and then he made it worse by coming out and offering to help Seth Rollins. Knight said Reigns vs. Rollins at SummerSlam makes him sick. Knight stopped and looked into the camera, and then an OTC chant broke out. Knight said he wasn’t mad at the fans for chanting because Reigns charmed them.

Knight said Reigns begged the fans for years to like him, and they booed him out of the building until he finally figured something out. Knight said he’s everything Reigns wanted to be. Knight said he walked in the door and he couldn’t be stopped. He said he’s also everything that everyone in the back wanted Reigns to be, but he couldn’t be.

Knight said he appreciates everything that Solo has done against The Bloodline, and that’s why he feels they can team together for one night. Knight said it’s a bridge too far for Solo to come out and help “that crosseyed halfwit” Rollins. Knight said Jacob Fatu’s “Mortal Kombat music was about to play.” Knight said Fatu could do his shake, but the cure is knocking Fatu back to his factory settings.

Jacob Fatu made his entrance for the main event. Cole said Knight should beware because Fatu was in a mood after being kicked in the mouth (by Seth Rollins)… [C]

Powell’s POV: Knight’s promo was entertaining, but he got some pushback from the crowd when he said he was everything Reigns wanted to be. It would be a lot easier for Knight if Reigns were positioned as a true heel

[Hour Three] Ads were still airing at the top of the hour…

5. LA Knight vs. Jacob Fatu. The match was joined in progress. The match spilled over to the floor, where Fatu ran Knight into the barricade and the side of the ring. Fatu slammed Knight’s head on top of the barricade and then returned to the ring long enough to break the count. Fatu went after Knight, who ended up running Fatu over the ring steps.

Fatu came right back with a Samoan Drop on the apron. Some fans chanted for Fatu, who stopped and acknowledged them. Knight kicked Fatu through the ropes. Fatu ran Knight into the steps. Fatu charged Knight, who sidestepped him and ran him into the steps. Knight slammed Fatu’s head on top of the ring steps a few times, then went to the apron before diving and clotheslining Fatu on the floor. [C]

Fatu went up top and was cut off by Knight, who joined him on the ropes. Knight threw punches at Fatu and wanted to superplex him, but Fatu headbutted him off the ropes. Knight ran right back up the ropes and performed the superplex.

Jimmy Uso walked out and got Knight’s attention at ringside. Solo Sikoa showed up in the timekeeper’s area. Solo attacked Jimmy and got the better of it until Fatu hit him with a suicide dive. Fatu returned to the ring and ate a series of punches from Knight. Fatu went for a pop-up Samoan Drop, but Knight avoided it and hit his BFT finisher.

Jimmy Uso climbed on the apron and argued with the referee. Royce Keys showed up and pulled Jimmy off the apron and then clotheslined him. Keys slammed Jimmy’s head on the apron and then tossed him over the broadcast table.

Jey Uso’s entrance theme played. Keys looked to the stage and motioned for him, but Jey hopped the barricade. Keys spotted Jey, who superkicked him three times and dumped him into the timekeeper’s area. Knight dove through the ropes and dropkicked Jey.

Knight returned to the ring and ate a superkick from Fatu, who followed up with a pop-up Samoan Drop. Fatu hit his Mighty Moonsault finisher on Knight and then covered him for the three count.

Jacob Fatu defeated LA Knight in roughly 13:00.

Afterward, Solo entered the ring and attacked Fatu. Jimmy pulled Solo off Fatu and then superkicked him twice. Jey speared Solo. Keys entered the ring and put the Usos down with a double clothesline. Fatu and Keys traded punches. Fatu ran the ropes and was put down with a spinebuster.

The Usos double superkicked Keys and then hit him with 1D (Cole called it 3D and was corrected by Graves). Jimmy picked up Knight, who threw punches at both Usos. Fatu applied the Tongan Death Grip on Knight and put him down in a corner of the ring. Jey, Jimmy, and Fatu all hit Knight with hip attacks. Jimmy dragged Knight to the middle of the ring, where Jey hit him with an Uso Splash. Fatu and the Usos stood over their fallen adversaries and raised their index fingers while the executive producer credits appeared to end the episode…

Powell’s POV: The main event match was fine, but the post-match brawl was better. It was more of a build than I thought they would give the SummerSlam six-man tag, but it’s not like they could do much with the Roman vs. Rollins or Oba vs. Lesnar feuds without Reigns and Lesnar.

Overall, this was an entertaining episode that focused heavily on the SummerSlam six-man and setting up Danhausen vs. Dom. I’m surprised they didn’t dedicate more time to Liv Morgan and Iyo Sky.
