[Hour One] Impact opened with footage of the various wrestlers who have been found laid out backstage at various times, and Special Agent Zero attacking Jason Hotch and Trey Miguel to end their match for a shot at the TNA International Championship… The Impact opening aired… Tom Hannifan and Matt Rehwoldt were on commentary…
Leon Slater made his entrance while ring announcer McKenzie Mitchell introduced him. Slater said he was doing better than last week. He acted emotional and then explained that he had to share the ring with Ryan Nemeth. Slater said he beat the razz out of Ryan. Slater spoke about how Nic Nemeth sees him improve every week and knows that he can win the TNA World Championship at Bound For Glory. Slater said he didn’t want to wait and then called out the champion.
TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth made his entrance and mocked the idea that he attacked Slater last week because he feared him. Nic said his brother Ryan would become X Division Champion at Bound For Glory and then they will run the company, possibly forever.
Ryan Nemeth entered the ring behind Slater. Nic took a shot at Slater’s father not being around when he was a kid. Slater said he saw that Nic was trying to get a reaction out of him and questioned if he thought he was stupid enough not to know that Ryan was behind him. Slater dropped Ryan. Slater and Nic fought until security pulled them apart.
TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella came out and announced that Nic and Slater can’t lay a finger on one another until Bound For Glory. He threatened to strip Nic of the title if he didn’t comply, and said Slater would lose his title shot at Bound For Glory if he failed to adhere to the ruling. The broadcast team questioned whether Nic and Slater could contain themselves until Bound For Glory…
Backstage, Matt Hardy spoke about the mystery attackers getting to him last week and his brother Jeff Hardy before then. Jeff walked into the picture. Matt said they would go to the ring in an hour and demand that the mystery attackers show themselves…
The broadcast team hyped the previously advertised matches and said the qualifier for the X Division Title match at Bound For Glory would take place after a commercial break… [C]
Powell’s POV: Teasing the mystery attackers’ reveal is a nice hook to keep viewers watching. TNA used the same no-contact rule heading into the Mike Santana vs. Nic Nemeth match at Slammiversary. I don’t mind them using it again because it’s logical for an authority figure to take this approach. By the way, earlier today, WrestleTix listed the venue as being set up for 1,786 (also the total number of seats on the map) with 858 tickets distributed.
Hannifan said Tanea “Rebel” Brooks will always be part of the TNA family, and then plugged iamals.org/rebel…
TNA authority figure Daria Rae was on the phone when Indi Hartwell approached her. Indi said she’s not afraid of Rae, who said she’d walk away if she were Hartwell. Indi goaded Rae, who slapped her across the face. Indi asked Santino Marella if he got that. Santino entered the picture holding a camera and said he filmed something that the TNA Board of Directors would like to see…
Powell’s POV: It’s a good thing Santino was able to record that slap because it’s not like this show is airing live on AMC, AMC+, and TNA+. Hey, wait… Anyway, this is payback for Daria getting Santino suspended for getting physical with the talent a while back.
KJ Orso headed to the ring while an introductory pre-taped promo aired. Ryan Nemeth’s entrance followed…
1. KJ Orso vs. Ryan Nemeth in a qualifier for the six-way match for the vacant X Division Championship. Ryan performed an early neckbreaker on the floor and then got him back in the ring and covered him for a two count. Orso came back and hit an Orso Driver for a near fall.
Orso got Ryan in a submission hold. Ryan rolled over, but Orso maintained the hold until Ryan put him in position for a pin, which forced him to release it. Ryan hit the Hollywood Ending finisher and got the three count…
Ryan Nemeth defeated KJ Orso in 6:40 to qualify for the six-way match for the vacant X Division Championship at Bound For Glory.
Hannifan said next week’s qualifier will be BDE vs. Mr. Elegance…
A video aired with Rosemary wearing a straitjacket. Another version of Rosemary was shown, and she said they should start from the beginning… [C]
Powell’s POV: TNA has had Orso, Joe Alonzo, and LJ Cleary lose qualifying matches. I’m not surprised to see mostly regulars, but it would be fun if they had booked an upset with a newcomer qualifying for the match at Bound For Glory. Ryan qualifying for the X Division match means that he and Nic could come out of Bound For Glory with the TNA World Championship, the TNA Tag Team Titles, and the X Division Title.
Mustafa Ali was seated in his dressing room with John Skyler standing by when Mila Moore entered the room and handed Ali his TNA International Championship. Ali questioned who came up with the idea of having him defend his title in a three-way on his first night back after being hospitalized. Ali blamed Moore, who stammered while trying to explain herself.
“I knew it, no brains, all bimbo,” Ali said to Moore. Skyler stood up to Ali, saying that Moore handled everything while Ali was in the hospital. Skyler said she did a good job and, more importantly, she’s a good person. Ali asked if Skyler remembered what Moore said about him last week and then walked away. Moore tried to talk to Skyler, who also made his exit…
TNA veteran Shawn Hernandez was shown in the crowd…
Powell’s POV: Hernandez looks more jacked at age 53 than he was during his peak years. That’s common with men our age (not really). Meanwhile, I’m not a fan of Ali scolding Moore. Ali brought Moore into the faction recently. She’s acted heelish, and he’s been nice to her, so this is an abrupt change. It was also odd that Skyler came to her defense after he was ready to ask her out last week and before he overheard her telling someone on the phone that she’d never date someone like him.
“The Righteous” Vincent and Dutch made their entrance for the Dot Combat match while Hannifan explained that it’s a tornado match with no disqualifications and falls count anywhere. Rich Swann and BDE made their entrance and went right after Vincent and Dutch to start the match…
2. “The Righteous” Vincent and Dutch vs. Rich Swann and BDE in a Dot Combat match. They used a video game controller as a weapon at one point, which is consistent with the weapons used in the company’s past versions of the match. Vincent and Dutch were getting the better of the babyfaces before a picture-in-picture break. [C]
Dutch was busted open. He ran toward BDE on the floor, but Swann shoved BDE out of the way and let Dutch crossbody block him through a table. BDE returned to the ring while Hannifan played up that he had a one-on-one opportunity with Vincent. BDE hit a top rope frog splash and had Vincent pinned, but Dutch pulled BDE to the floor. Back in the ring, Vincent and Dutch hit Orange Sunshine, and then Vincent got the three count.
“The Righteous” Vincent and Dutch beat Rich Swann and BDE in a Dot Combat match in 12:35.
After the match, Dutch put a chair around BDE’s neck and then Vincent hit it with a second chair…
Powell’s POV: A garbage brawl match that got a rise out of the live crowd. The Righteous has a couple of wins over Swann and BDE, so I assume this is leading to the babyfaces eventually getting revenge and a big win.
Avery Styles was seated on a couch while texting on his phone. Frankie Kazarian entered the room and asked if he had a moment. Kazarian informed Avery that he got him a spot in the Call Your Shot gauntlet match at Bound For Glory. Kazarian noted that it would be Avery’s first TNA match. Avery was excited. Kazarian played up being a two-time winner of the match and then told Avery that he would also be in the Call Your Shot gauntlet match…
Hannifan hosted the sponsored TNA injury report segment. He said multiple TNA security members were injured when they tried to separate Nic Nemeth and Leon Slater earlier in the show. Hannifan said Jeff Hardy is cleared after being attacked last month. Moose is out with a neck injury, but he’s expected to return to the ring next week… [C]
Backstage, Indi Hartwell and Harley Hudson were talking when Santino Marella showed up and informed them that the TNA Board of Directors was appalled by Daria Rae slapping Hartwell. Santino said Daria was suspended. He also said that with Daria gone, he can give Hartwell the Knockouts Title match that Daria wouldn’t give her. Santino said Hartwell will challenge for the title at Bound For Glory.
Knockouts Champion Xia Brookside showed up and was not happy about Hartwell getting a title shot. Santino said he’s the only one with authority now and said the match was official. Indi told Brookside that she would see her at Bound For Glory…
[Hour Two] Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy made their entrance and called out the mystery attackers. Matt said it was time for the attackers to man up and show up. The lights flickered, and the ring was dark when two men covered in black attacked the Hardys. The lights went out for a moment and then turned back on.
The hooded men revealed themselves to be Samuel Shaw (f/k/a Dexter Lumis) and Joseph Sawyer (f/k/a Joe Gacy). The crowd was censored as they chanted “holy shit,” and then the sound returned while they were still chanting… [C]
Powell’s POV: Shaw and Sawyer were expected to be revealed as the mystery men. The word was out, and that’s okay, because the fans still wanted to see it and popped big when it happened. As a Breaking Bad fan, I’ve heard every word in the book on AMC. So why does TNA go overboard by censoring “holy shit” chants?
The broadcast team recapped Shaw and Sawyer attacking the Hardys, and then entrances for the next match took place…
3. Elijah vs. Eddie Edwards (w/Alisha Edwards). Elijah started to do an early Old School rope walk, but Alisha climbed onto the apron and distracted him. She also reached inside the ring and grabbed his leg moments later. Elijah left the ring to confront her, but Eddie hit him with a suicide dive.
Elijah eventually battled back and walked the ropes again before jumping off and hitting a DDT on the way down, and got another near fall. Elijah went up top, but he dropped down to the mat when Bear Bronson and Brian Myers ran out. Ricky Sosa ran out and took out Bronson and Myers. Eddie rolled up Elijah, who rolled through and then hit The Highwayman’s Farewell tombstone piledriver for the win.
Elijah beat Eddie Edwards in 6:40.
Elijah and Sosa celebrated afterward while the heels seethed on the floor…
Moose delivered a backstage promo. He said his neck might hurt after facing Frankie Kazarian last week, but he proved once again why he’s the face of the franchise. AJ Francis and Expressions showed up and got in Moose’s face. Francis boasted about bringing money into the company.
Francis asked Moose why he brought in Dude Wipes as a sponsor. “Because your ass stinks,” Moose said. Funny. Moose said he’d make sure his schedule would be open if Francis wanted to face him one more time. “We accept,” Expressions yelled…
The broadcast team hyped the remaining matches and said the Knockouts four-way was up next… [C] The end of Gabby Forza’s entrance was shown while her opponents were already in the ring…
4. Elayna Black vs. Gabby Forza vs. Harley Hudson vs. Jada Stone in a four-way for a shot at the Knockouts TV Title. Forza worked over Hudson in a corner of the ring until Black hit her from behind. Forza and Hudson scooped up their opponents and banged them together before performing simultaneous fallaway slams.
Hudson went after Forza, who no-sold her punches. Forza pressed Hudson over her head and threw her at Black. Forza got Stone on the ropes and set up for a suplex from the middle rope. Hudson and Black joined her on the middle rope, and they completed the move, which somehow resulted in all four women being down.
Knockouts TV Champion M by Elegance walked onto the stage with The Concierge, Heather by Elegance, and Mr. Elegance. Stone hit Forza with a Spark Stunner, but Forza exited the ring before Stone could try to pin her. Black hit her Blackout DDT finisher and smiled while looking into the camera as she pinned Stone…
Elayna Black defeated Jada Stone, Gabby Forza, and Harley Hudson in a four-way in 5:00 to earn a shot at the Knockouts TV Title.
Powell’s POV: Stone seemed like the least likely person to win the four-way because M by Elegance beat her in the tournament finals to become the first Knockouts TV Champion. I assume the title match will occur next week, as they’ve talked about the title being defended biweekly.
Backstage, Mila Moore thanked John Skyler for standing up for her. She asked if he meant all those things he said about her. He confirmed that he did, and then she leaned in for a kiss, but Mustafa Ali played cockblocker by entering the picture with Special Agent Zero.
Ali took issue with what Moore and Skyler were doing moments before his title defense. Moore said she’s finished with Order 4. Ali said she couldn’t quit. Moore said she just did. She grabbed Skyler and pulled him away while saying that Skyler quit too. Ali told Zero to follow them and then yelled while wondering where Tasha Steelz was…
Powell’s POV: I actually hope this is a swerve on Skyler because Moore’s character shift from last week is too abrupt.
Backstage, Zoey Serrano spoke with Daria Rae on the phone and said Indi Hartwell wouldn’t make it to Bound For Glory…
Trey Miguel made his entrance. Jason Hotch was out next, and Hannifan noted that Hotch’s daughter, who recently appeared on the show, was celebrating her third birthday today. Mustafa Ali had four Secret Service-types walk out before he and Tasha Steelz made their entrance…
5. Mustafa Ali vs. Jason Hotch vs. Trey Miguel in a three-way for the TNA International Championship. Hotch attacked Ali before the bell. The referee rewarded him for it by calling for the opening bell. Ali wasn’t as toned as usual, which is understandable given that this is his first night back from what was labeled as a punctured lung and fractured ribs suffered at last month’s Lockdown pay-per-view. Hotch and Miguel ended up fighting on the floor. Ali hit them both with a suicide dive before what was likely the last PIP break. [C]
Hotch performed a double top rope Spanish Fly coming out of the break, which drew a “this is awesome” chant. Hotch hit Miguel with a Canadian Destroyer. Ali kicked Hotch, and then they fought for position before Ali performed a piledriver for a good near fall. Miguel had a nice flurry of offense. Hotch rallied and hit a top rope frog splash on Miguel for a near fall.

Hotch approached Ali, who begged off before grabbing Hotch and pulling him so that he fell through the ropes to the floor. Ali motioned for Steelz, who brought the TNA International Title belt into the ring. Hotch returned and went for a top rope double stomp that Ali avoided and took out Steelz. Hotch checked on Steelz, who rolled out of the ring. Ali rolled out Hotch for a two count. Ali ran Hotch through the ropes and into the ring post before he hit the floor. Miguel returned and went for a top rope meteora, but he had to land on his feet when Ali saw him coming and moved. Ali hit Miguel with the title belt and then pinned him.
Mustafa Ali defeated Trey Miguel and Jason Hotch in a Triple Threat in 13:55 to retain the TNA International Championship.
The referee picked up the title belt and gave it to Ali (no word yet as to whether Carlos Silva will fire the referee for stealing his usual moment of glory of presenting title belts to championship match winners). Ali celebrated his win. He finally went to ringside and picked up Steelz, who was still selling the double stomp. The producer credits were shown as Ali scooped up Steelz. “I’m the man,” Ali yelled before dropping Steelz like a bag of trash and playing to the crowd. Hilarious…
Backstage, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy told Samuel Shaw and Joseph Sawyer that they don’t die and added that they should prepare to go to war next week…
Powell’s POV: A hot main event. Ali and Hotch especially have accomplished what seemed impossible by making me care about the TNA International Championship. I actually wish they were feuding over the TNA World Championship, but perhaps someday that will happen.
Overall, this was one of TNA’s better live Impact shows. They’ve had some rough live Impact shows, but they chose the right main event and delivered a satisfying payoff to the mystery attacker angle. I also liked the final clip with the Hardys, as it gave a nice hook for next week’s show. I’m not sure why they seemingly wrote out Daria Rae (I hope it’s temporary) or why they made those abrupt character shifts in Order 4, but I’m curious to see where they go from here. I will have a lot more to say about this episode and the current state of TNA during my free Pro Wrestling Boom Podcast on Friday.
