Vince McMahon’s XFL named Oliver Luck its new Commissioner and CEO. Luck, the father of NFL quarterback Andrew Luck, previously worked as an executive in the NFL and NCAA and was the president of the defunct NFL Europe.

“Oliver and I share the same vision and passion for reimagining the game of football,” Vince McMahon stated in a press release. “His experience as both an athlete and executive will ensure the long-term success of the XFL.” Read the official announcement at XFL.com

Powell’s POV: The XFL also released a video (available below) with Luck discussing his new role and stating his desire for a “fast-paced, high energy, authentic, yet simpler game.” He also noted that they submitted a proposal to 30 markets that could potentially host one of the planned eight teams for the league launch in 2020. I am more familiar with Andrew Luck than I am Oliver Luck, but it’s worth noting that the respected ProFootballTalk.com‘s Michael David Smith wrote that Oliver’s hire provides “some credibility to the upstart league.”
