Vince McMahon’s XFL has competition from an old partner and his son

Vince McMahon’s former XFL partner Dick Ebersol is part of a group that will launch a rival football league called The Alliance of American Football. Ebersol’s son Charlie and a group of investors are launching the league in 2019 and have already struck a broadcast deal with CBS Sports. Dick Ebersol will serve on the league’s board of directors. Powell’s POV: If Charlie Ebersol’s name seems familiar it’s because he made the ESPN documentary on the XFL. One can’t help but wonder if the original plan was for the documentary to lead to a new XFL with Vince and the Ebersols working together. Either way, there hasn’t been any buzz about the XFL since Vince’s online press conference, and the rival league is beating him to the punch with a television deal and by starting a year earlier than the XFL’s 2020 relaunch.
