Sinclair Broadcast Group, the parent company of Ring of Honor, has a $3.9 billion cash and stock agreement to purchase Tribune Media, according to Variety.com. “Television broadcasting is even more relevant today, especially when it comes to serving our local communities,” SGB Chairman David Smith said in a press release.

“Tribune’s stations allow Sinclair to strengthen our commitment to serving local communities and to advance the Next Generation Broadcast Platform. This acquisition will be a turning point for Sinclair, allowing us to better serve our viewers and advertisers while creating value for our shareholders.” Read the full story at Variety.com.

Powell’s POV: The Variety piece notes that the Tribune acquisition includes 14 FOX affiliates, 12 CW affiliates, six CBS affiliates, three ABC affiliates, and two NBC affiliates. Thus, it could mean additional exposure for the ROH television show, but it’s hard to say how this will affect SBG’s pro wrestling company.
