ROH TV Hits

Matt Sydal vs. Adam Cole: Of course this is a Hit for the in-ring action, topped off by an upset win. However, it did feel very much like the typical ROH main event – great, but pointless. I’d like to think Sydal is being set up for a push after this pretty marquee win, but I wouldn’t be shocked if the next person he faces beats him. That is how ROH has conditioned me to feel, but hopefully I am wrong.

Lio Rush vs. Punisher Martinez: There were some shaky spots in this, which may be down to Rush’s inexperience, but the match told a really good story. The power vs. speed dynamic meshed well, and Rush gained a lot by kicking out of so many big moves. I don’t see him winning, but this was further proof that Rush has bags of potential.

Silas Young and the Beer City Bruiser vs. The Boys: I ended up enjoying this match despite some sloppy spots from The Boys. This has been a long time coming, and it worked well as an opener with the high energy and good selling from The Boys. It was also good to see Dalton Castle get angry – that’s an important addition to the character if Castle is ever going to get pushed more meaningfully.

ROH TV Misses

Brian Fury vs. Action Ortiz: The lesser of the two Top Prospect Tournament matches, by virtue of it just not being all that engrossing or memorable. The story of Fury being crafty with his underhanded tactics is fine, but I can’t say a tournament victory for the 17-year veteran does much for me. Plus, Ortiz may have the worst ring gear in recent memory.
