Former WWE Champion Dave “Batista” Bautista met with Vince McMahon backstage at the Royal Rumble in Orlando, Florida, according to ProwrestlingSheet.com. The story states that Vince made a pitch to get Batista for a one-off, non-wrestling appearance at WrestleMania. Batista passed, but the door was left open for additional creative ideas.

Powell’s POV: Heel Batista wrestling at WrestleMania would be a lot of fun, but the problem is that he will be filming the “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel soon, so that’s unlikely to happen. WWE could use all the star power they can get at WrestleMania, and with his high profile role as Drax in the Marvel films the former champion would provide a nice boost if they can work out a non-wrestling appearance. Batista has been critical of WWE creative recently, though he has stated that he would enjoy working non-televised events and previously mentioned his desire to face Triple H in a retirement match.
