Cody Rhodes explained his decision to request his release from WWE, which was officially granted on Sunday. He expressed frustration with pitching ideas to the “head writers of Raw and Smackdown (one pretending to be like Brian Gewirtz and the other too busy hitting on developmental divas) continued to not return my pitches or e-mails, and in face-to-face encounters tried to big league me by pretending to be on their clearly powered-off laptops…barely willing to listen to an idea I considered beneficial to more than one talent.”
Rhodes went on thank the fans and his peers and teased that he’s not finished yet. “There’s a whole world of film and television and the stage that I might find a knack for (maybe I even already got an offer). As far as the future is concerned though, I’m a wrestler. So that’s what I’ll do…wrestle.” Read his full statement at Twitter.com/princecgr.
Powell’s POV: Cody also noted that he “pleaded” to get out of the Stardust gimmick for the last six months and go back to being Cody Rhodes. He definitely threw the some writers under the bus on his way out the door while labeling WWE creative a “broken unrecognizable system.” There are two sides to every story, but if they have it coming then good for him. For newer fans, Gewirtz is the former WWE head writer who left the company and now works for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Seven Bucks Entertainment.
My one&only statement on the matter. No podcasts or tell-all nonsense.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can see Cody in the Bullet Club
Good for Cody. I just don’t understand how Vince never saw anything more to him. Dude had everything it takes to become a star and constantly did his best with what he was given. I just hope he finally gets the success he deserves wherever he ends up.
Absolutely ridiculous that the writers prevented a real talent from showcasing his full potential. I got such a kick out of the Stardust gimmick because Cody is a helluva performer and he really made that persona work. But that gimmick had an expiry date, and there was big money in Cody just being Cody. He could have been a legit main event player and World Title contender. I would have loved to see him mix it up with the likes of Owens, AJ Styles, Ambrose, Sami Zayn, Cesaro and a returning Seth Rollins as a serious character in the upper mid-card/main event scene. Good for Cody though on taking control of his own career, and I’m hoping he finds success in the next stage of his life.
