Thiel, who was publicly outed as gay by a Gawker Media owned blog back in 2007, spoke publicly this week for the first time about bankrolling Hogan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s less about revenge and more about specific deterrence,\u201d Thiel said. &#8220;I saw Gawker pioneer a unique and incredibly damaging way of getting attention by bullying people even when there was no connection with the public interest&#8230; I can defend myself. Most of the people they attack are not people in my category.
