The crowd was maybe 150; the crowd was much larger at the start of the show than in recent weeks. Paul Crockett, Brother Greatness, and Brett Mettro provided commentary.

1. Rain Conway vs. Erik ChaCha in a spotlight match. I feel like these guys have squared off a few times already. BG and Mettro were on commentary for the opener. Standing switches and they twisted each other’s left arm. Erik hit a running Penalty Kick for a one-count at 1:00. He hit a second-rope bulldog for a nearfall. Rain hit a sit-out powerbomb. Erik nailed some Yes Kicks at 3:30. He slammed Conway and got a nearfall. However, Conway hit the Okada-style Rainmaker clothesline for the pin. Solid.

Rain Conway defeated Erik ChaCha at 4:31.

2. “Waves & Curls” Jaylen Brandyn and Traevon Jordan vs. “The Breadwinners” Cash McGuiness and Patrick Wheatman. Crockett joined Brother Greatness in the booth. The annoying, scrawny Breadwinner kids came out first. Jordan and Cash took turns playing to the crowd at the bell, and of course, Cash attacked from behind. Jordan forced Cash to dance, but Cash didn’t seem to mind.

The Breadwinners began working over Jaylen in their corner. Cash hit a Mule Kick for a nearfall at 5:30. Jordan finally got the hot tag at 7:00, and he hit some clotheslines. Jordan hit a leg lariat on Cash, who accidentally punched Wheatman! W&C hit a team Bulldog Powerslam move for the pin on McGuiness. Adequate; at least the right team won.

“Waves & Curls” Jaylen Brandyn and Traevon Jordan defeated “The Breadwinners” Cash McGuiness and Patrick Wheatman at 7:53.

* Traevon got on the mic and reminded us they beat the Miracle Generation last week. They have been waiting for an opportunity, and they’ve been cheated out of title shots, he said. They called out “Bustah & The Brain” Alec Price & Jordan Oliver for the IWTV Tag Team Titles… and they want a match next week!

* Footage aired of Julio Cruz being shaved bald last week after his team lost a ‘hair versus hair’ match.

* Rain Conway came out again. The crowd groaned. Crockett was annoyed at seeing him, too. Rain got on the mic, and he called out Rickey Shane Page for a “Halloween Hardcore Match” next week… because he has that dawwwwg in him!

3. Buck Sawin vs. Love, Doug. This is a bonus, unadvertised match. Again, Buck’s whole look is like WWF legend Skinner, with his torn, unbuttoned flannel shirt. Doug played with his flowing locks on the way to the ring. A clean lockup to open. Sawin hit a DDT and got a nearfall at 3:30, and he was in charge. He hit a back suplex and applied a rear-naked choke. Doug hit a back-body drop at 5:30 and some clotheslines, and he was fired up. Buck hit a swinging neckbreaker for a nearfall. Doug hit the Slice of Love (mid-ring Sliced Bread), then the Lariat of Love (rebound clothesline) for the pin. Okay.

Love, Doug defeated Buck Sawin at 7:01.

* Doug got on the mic and said he’s still “running high” from last week’s win. Doug said that he and Brad Hollister are entering into the Eliminator Cup, which kicks off in two weeks!

4. Aaron Ortiz vs. Kylon King. Kylon came out first and spoke, and he apologized for his recent actions! Quick reversals at the bell. Ortiz hit some deep armdrags. Kylon hit a second-rope crossbody block, a dropkick, and a huracanrana for a nearfall at 2:30. Ortiz hit some stomps in the corner, and he’s acting like a heel tonight! This is unexpected! Ortiz hit a snap suplex for a nearfall. Kylon hit some chops.

Ortiz hit a hard back elbow to the nose for a nearfall at 4:00, and he jawed at the ref. Crockett was puzzled at how Ortiz was acting tonight. Kylon fired up and hit some punches. He dropped Ortiz throat-first on the top rope, then hit an Exploder Suplex at 5:30. He caught Ortiz and hit a sit-out powerbomb for a nearfall. They traded rollups. Kylon hit a German Suplex. He blocked a sunset flip, sat down, and scored the clean pin! Good action; I wish that had gone longer.

Kylon King defeated Aaron Ortiz at 7:16.

* Ortiz shook Kylon’s hand, but then he hit a clothesline! The crowd loudly booed that! “You lost fair and square!” Crockett shouted. Ortiz nailed a vicious brainbuster, and the crowd was loudly booing Aaron now. He then hit a top-rope flying Blockbuster. “I don’t know who the hell that guy is; that’s not the Aaron Ortiz I knew,” Crockett muttered in disgust.

5. Richard Adonis vs. Jarret Diaz. Adonis (as you would expect with that name) has a great physique. He is also a recent WWE ID signee. He’s been here before, but hasn’t won. I’ve seen Jarrett a few times in House of Glory, usually in scramble matches. An intense lockup, and they are roughly the same height and body shape. Crockett noted this is a big opportunity for both men. Diaz, dressed in white trunks, hit a punt kick to the back and some chops. Adonis, in blue trunks, hit a hard knee lift to the gut and took control.

Adonis hit a spin kick to the head at 3:00, then a springboard stunner for a nearfall. He tied up Diaz on the mat. He hit a short-arm clothesline for a nearfall. He hit a jumping knee at 5:00, but he missed a second-rope moonsault. Diaz fired up and hit some clotheslines, then a mid-ring Spanish Fly for a nearfall! Nice! He hit a dropkick to the back, then a top-rope flying elbow drop for a nearfall at 6:30. Adonis hit a hammerlock back suplex and scored the pin. I liked that A LOT. You can tell these two went out there to make an impression. Right on cue, we got a “please come back!” chant.

Richard Adonis defeated Jarret Diaz at 7:02.

6. Tiny Giant vs. Bean Dip Dazza in a Discovery Gauntlet Match. Never heard of Dazza before. Again, Tiny Giant wears a yellow mask, and he’s perhaps 5’6″. Dazza is bald with a mustache and goatee. His clothing style with the plaid shirt made me think of Konnan, but he also looks a lot like Cruz Montana (except bald!) TG hit a springboard crossbody block for a nearfall at 1:30.

Dazza hit some loud chops. They traded punches and Tiny Giant hit a back suplex at 4:00. Tiny Giant hit an enzuigiri and a Shining Wizard for a nearfall. Dazza hit a Michinoku Driver for a nearfall. TG hit a punt kick, then the Styles Bomb for the pin. Solid. The fans gave them a “Please come back!” chant, too.

Tiny Giant defeated Bean Dip Dazza to advance in the Discovery Gauntlet at 5:57.

7. Peter Gianni and Paris Van Dale (w/the Breadwinners, 23 Hazard) vs. Brother Greatness and Nessa Ferrari (w/Mani Ariez). This is a pretty motley crew of a faction 23 Hazard has put together. The guys opened and traded offense. BG avoided a dropkick, and he hit his own dropkick for a nearfall at 1:00. The women got in, and Nessa hit a double knee drop in the corner on Paris. PVD choked her in the ropes. She backed Nessa in the corner and hit some overhand chops. Nessa hit a top-rope crossbody block at 5:30, and both women were down.

The guys tagged back in, and Brother Greatness hit some clotheslines and a springboard crossbody block, then an Air Raid Crash. He hit a splash to the mat for a nearfall. The women got back in. Nessa got an inside cradle for the flash pin! Gianni attacked Nessa from behind! The crowd was irate!

Brother Greatness and Nessa Ferrari defeated Peter Gianni and Paris Van Dale at 7:21.

* 23 Hazard jumped in the face of some fans and yelled at them. Mani attacked Hazard on the floor, and we’re underway!

8. Mani Ariez vs. 23 Hazard. An intriguing matchup, as I think Mani is the better wrestler, but Hazard is getting the bigger push. They got in the ring, and we got a bell at 00:42. Crockett said that EMTs are checking on Nessa “after that disgusting attack by Gianni.” They traded chops. Mani peeled off Hazard’s durag, and we immediately got the “bald!” chants. Mani shined up the cue ball and got a nearfall at 2:00. Hazard hit some shoulder thrusts to the ribs in the corner and got a nearfall at 3:30.

Mani caught him and hit a sidewalk slam. He hit a back suplex, and they were both down. They got up and traded punches. Mani tossed him across the ring, and they were both down at 7:30. Mani hit a Facewash kick and a powerbomb for a nearfall. Hazard hit a second-rope Stomp to the head for a nearfall. Hazard went for a crossbody block in the corner, but Mani caught him and hit a Doctor Bomb for a nearfall at 9:30! Nice! The Breadwinners suddenly hopped on the apron to distract the ref. Hazard hit a low blow and a clothesline to the back of the head for the tainted pin.

23 Hazard defeated Mani Ariez at 10:12/official time 9:30.

9. Bear Bronson vs. TJ Crawford for the Wrestling Open Title. I’ve noted before that I liked how TJ broke away from his never-ending feud with Brad Hollister to start this title chase. TJ hit some quick spin kicks to the thighs and knees and backed away, and stalled on the floor. Stick-and-move is the right plan for him. He got back in and hit some more kicks. TJ charged for a shoulder tackle, but he bounced off and crashed at 1:30. Bear finally backed him into a corner and hit some chops.

Bronson hit a Bulldog Powerbomb for a nearfall and some chops. TJ dove through the ropes and splashed onto Bear on the floor at 3:30. He hit some spin kicks to the chest and back, then threw him back in. Crawford hit a Dragon Suplex and some chops. Bear fired back with some more chops, but TJ hit another Dragon Suplex at 5:30, then a running Penalty Kick to the back on the apron. They again brawled to the floor and traded more chops. In the ring, Bear hit a butt splash to the sternum, and they were both down at 7:30.

Bear hit an overhead sit-out powerbomb for a nearfall! TJ hit a Death Valley Driver and a top-rope double stomp for a believable nearfall at 9:30. Bear hit some Yes Kicks, but they just fired up Bear! TJ hit another Dragon Suplex but Bear popped up! They traded forearm strikes. TJ hit the Silver Bullet spin kick to the head, then a Burning Hammer for a nearfall at 12:00. Awesome. TJ hit a clothesline, but Bear nailed a Choke Bomb for a one-count at 13:30.

Bear nailed a discus clothesline, then the Fire Thunder Driver for a believable nearfall! (When is the last time someone kicked out of that?) TJ rolled to the floor to regroup. Bear set up for a dive, but TJ caught his head and hit a stunner in the ropes, then a double stomp on Bear’s head! TJ Crawford grabbed the belt from a nearby table, but Tiny Giant appeared and stole it from TJ, who glared at Tiny Giant; it allowed Bear to scoop up Crawford and hit a second Fire Thunder Driver for the pin.

Bear Bronson defeated TJ Crawford to retain the Wrestling Open Title at 15:49.

Final Thoughts: First and foremost, a really, really good main event, as Bear continues to be a great champion here. TJ wrestled a smart match, and he is so technically crisp — every kick looks great and appears to have landed. A really good back-and-forth match between them, but I wish Bear had won entirely clean; he didn’t need TJ to be distracted as a reason he lost. That said, it was impressive to see Crawford get a (rare!) kickout after a Fire Thunder Driver.

Outside of the main event, it was a merely okay show; certainly not in the top half of episodes I’ve seen from here. Ortiz vs. Kylon King was really entertaining and takes second. That said, Ortiz started showing heel mannerisms early on and seemingly out of nowhere. But by showing those heel mannerisms so early on … it wasn’t shocking at all when Ortiz attacked Kylon. I would have delayed those heel mannerisms so the attack really startled the fans.

Adonis and Jarret Diaz had a really good match, and that takes third. Sure, they both could have played to the crowd more and got the fans more involved, and that will come. But they went out there on a mission to deliver a technically strong, back-and-forth match that would catch my attention. Mission accomplished.

I’m glad to see this push for Waves & Curls, and they rightfully put away the scrawny kids in a timely fashion. Nothing really bad per se, but this episode felt like it was missing some star power outside the main event. I watched this live; it should be posted on IWTV at some point on Friday.

Listen to "Pro Wrestling Boom Podcast" on Spreaker.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[2345,2,11
4296,4778,4897
post-198611","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-misc-ppv-reports","category-newsticker","category-ppv_reports","tag-bear-bronson","tag-tj-crawford","tag-wrestling-open

Wrestling Open "Episode 251"
