We all know the drill by now. At the end of the night, fans of the company will be pleased with the in-ring output, and with nine matches advertised for the main card, those who purchase the event will feel that it was worth the spend. That said, as this show is only three weeks after All Out, I don&#8217;t feel like there was enough time to truly build these matches to where they feel &#8220;must-see&#8221; unless you&#8217;re a match junkie. And there&#8217;s a big pet peeve of mine on display, which I have spoken about before. More on that later. Let&#8217;s run down the card!<\/p>\n<p><b>Will Ospreay vs. Samoa Joe vs. Mike Bailey vs. Adam Copeland vs. Konosuke Takeshita vs. Kazuchika Okada vs. Ricochet vs. Darby Allin in a Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World Championship. <\/b>For context, the Clockwork Carnage rules are listed as follows: &#8220;Two wrestlers will start with two wrestlers selected at random. Every three minutes, another randomly selected wrestler enters. Until all eight wrestlers have entered, any wrestler who is pinned or submits is eliminated. Once the final wrestler enters, all remaining wrestlers enter a 15-minute scoring period. During those 15 minutes, every pinfall or submission scores one fall. When the time expires, the wrestler with the most falls wins.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>My pet peeve is here in all its glory. I understand the desire to try a new match concept. Heck, I encourage it. Without innovation, we don&#8217;t have WarGames, Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, etc. And I may feel different after I see how it plays out and is received, but to me, this seems more complicated than it should be. More importantly, it accentuates my biggest issue \u2013 not building anyone to be a credible singles challenger to Will Ospreay. Instead, we incorporate lazy booking by throwing everyone into a multi-person match. Yes, they all qualified to be there, so that part was good. But unless there&#8217;s a big shakeup planned, there&#8217;s no reason to believe any of the seven challengers has a shot at winning the title. I also have a smaller issue with Okada being granted a qualifying match. Yes, he&#8217;s the International Champion, but he was just on the losing end of a title match against Ospreay. Despite all of this, the match should delight the fanbase.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: Will Ospreay defeats Samoa Joe, Mike Bailey, Adam Copeland, Konosuke Takeshita, Kazuchika Okada, Ricochet, and Darby Allin in a Clockwork Carnage match to retain the AEW World Championship.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Mercedes Mone vs. Thekla for the AEW Women&#8217;s Championship. <\/b>Thekla and Willow Nightingale are the two talents in the women&#8217;s division that I am most high on. Thekla has potential to be the breakout babyface star of the division, but I think it would be too soon to put the title on her. I think this will be a highly competitive match, with Mone retaining. With the right booking and story, it&#8217;s a match you can rebuild and go back to when you&#8217;ve fully baked Thekla&#8217;s presentation and are ready to give her a big moment.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: Mercedes Mone defeats Thekla to retain the AEW Women&#8217;s Championship.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>&#8220;The Young Bucks&#8221; Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson vs. Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight for the AEW Tag Team Titles. <\/b>I&#8217;m going to give this one a bit of a pass because we don&#8217;t know for sure if this was the plan before Steven Borden&#8217;s injury at All Out. The match will be fine, as Fletcher and Knight have shown some decent chemistry. But, similar to Thekla, it&#8217;s too premature to put the titles on them, as they&#8217;ve not been established as a credible team capable of dethroning the champions.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: &#8220;The Young Bucks&#8221; Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson defeat Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Swerve Strickland, Kofi, and Austin Creed vs. Hangman Page, Bandido, and Brody King in a best-of-three falls match for the AEW Trios Titles. <\/b>I&#8217;m not a fan of the AEW Trios Titles to begin with, and running this match back for a third time doesn&#8217;t really help the cause. Fans of the Page\/Strickland feud will anticipate this match, and the action itself will be fine. For me, I&#8217;m ready for everyone to move on, particularly Creed and Kofi. I&#8217;d like to see them in more regular tag team matches and not be held strictly to the trios division.<\/p><div id=\"prowr-3872541153\" class=\"prowr-content-4 prowr-entity-placement\" role=\"region\" aria-label=\"Advertisements\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_2 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_2\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: Swerve Strickland, Kofi, and Austin Creed defeat Hangman Page, Bandido, and Brody King in a best-of-three falls match to retain the AEW Trios Titles.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Jon Moxley vs. Mark Davis for the AEW Continental Championship. <\/b>It was weird that Davis earned his title shot by pinning Gabe Kidd in a tag match, but this one has grittiness and stiff working all over it, which will be a nice change of pace from the high-flying that we&#8217;ll see in the other matches.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: Jon Moxley defeats Mark Davis to retain the AEW Continental Championship.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Andrade El Idolo vs. Tommaso Ciampa for the AEW National Championship. <\/b>This should be another hard-hitting match. This may be wishful thinking on my part, but as Ciampa needs a win, I think it happens here. The National Championship isn&#8217;t credible, but if anyone can make a fun run and boost its credibility, it&#8217;s Ciampa. Plus, it frees up Andrade to cash in his contract for a shot at the AEW World Championship.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: Tommaso Ciampa defeats Andrade El Idolo to win the AEW National Championship.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Persephone vs. Dani Luna vs. Hyan vs. Queen Aminata in a four-way for the TBS Championship. <\/b>No disrespect to the talent, but this really could have been a match on Dynamite or Collision. I will say that I enjoy Luna&#8217;s work in particular, but this just screams of being unnecessary filler.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: Persephone defeats Dani Luna, Hyan, and Queen Aminata in a four-way to retain the TBS Championship.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Chris Jericho vs. Nick Wayne.<\/b> This is the rubber match between the two. For me, I think Wayne has to go over here to get something out of this program. It&#8217;s been fine, but I don&#8217;t think Jericho has gotten him over at the level where he can take a loss and still be elevated on the card.<\/p>\n<p><i>Don Predicts: Nick Wayne defeats Chris Jericho.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><u>Quick Pre-Show Predictions<\/u><\/b><\/p><div id=\"prowr-698232991\" class=\"prowr-content-5 prowr-entity-placement\" role=\"region\" aria-label=\"Advertisements\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_3 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_3\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><i>Megan Bayne and Lena Kross defeat Julia Hart and Skye Blue. <\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;FTR&#8221; Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler defeat &#8220;The Motor City Machine Guns&#8221; Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin in the first match of a best-of-five series.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Don&#8217;s Take:<\/b> I&#8217;d put the FTR vs. MCMG match on the main card, replacing the TBS Championship match. I know they want people to tune in for the pre-show, but it should be good. I would imagine that the final match in the series will take place as part of the main card on the next pay-per-view. And before anyone accuses me of sexism for suggesting the women&#8217;s four-way should be moved to the pre-show, that has nothing to do with it. It&#8217;s merely how the talent is being booked\/presented.<\/p>\n<p>AEW pay-per-views cost $49.99 (or $39.99 via HBO Max).
