The venue is a large gym and everyone was seated on the floor. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cagematch.net\/\">Cagematch.net<\/a> lists the crowd at 1,150 and I won&#8217;t dispute that. The lights were left on and it&#8217;s easy to see. Like on some of these other &#8216;B-shows,&#8217; there are no on-screen graphics.<\/p>\n<p><b>1. Taisei Nakahara vs. Yushin Hatazawa. <\/b>We see <b>Tomohiro Ishii<\/b> seated at ringside, watching the match! I haven&#8217;t seen Yushin before; he&#8217;s thinner and has his head shaved bald. Taisei applied a half-crab, but Yushin reached the ropes at 4:00. Yushin applied a Boston Crab, but Taisei reached the ropes. They got up and traded chops, and I see Yushin is maybe two or three inches taller than Nakahara. Taisei again applied a Boston Crab, and Yushin tapped out.<\/p>\n<p><i>Taisei Nakahara defeated Yushin Hatazawa at 7:15.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>2. A Rambo match.<\/b> The rules in these modified Royal Rumbles always change, and with Japanese commentary, I&#8217;m not going to know how this will play out. <b>Shota Umino<\/b> came out first. <b>Shun Skywalker<\/b> drew No. 2. <b>Dick Togo<\/b> was No. 3 at 1:30. <b>Jado<\/b> was No. 4, and he wore El Phantasmo&#8217;s light-up glasses! <b>Bolten Oleg<\/b> was No. 5 at 4:30, and he hit some shoulder tackles. <b>Henare<\/b>, carrying two title belts, was No. 6, and he immediately traded shoulder blocks with Oleg. <b>Masatora Yasuda<\/b> was No. 7 at 7:00.<\/p>\n<p><b>Sho<\/b> drew No. 8, and he went for a rollup on Yasuda. <b><i>Togo rolled up and pinned Jado at 8:38<\/i> <\/b>for our first elimination. <b>Douki<\/b> was No. 9, so we suddenly have four members of the House of Torture in there! Yasuda broke up a pinfall attempt on Henare. (Normally I&#8217;d object to that, but I get it &#8212; you need to get rid of some of the HoT!) <i><b>Oleg put Togo in a Boston Crab, and Togo tapped out at 10:06.<\/b><\/i> <b>El Desperado<\/b> was No. 10. Shota and Desperado worked together to try and flip Sho, but Douki made the save.<\/p>\n<p><b>Jakob Austin Young<\/b> was No. 11 at 12:00; he peeled off his own shirt, choked Desperado with it, hit a Lungblower, and got a nearfall. I think<b> Yasuda was eliminated <\/b>at the same time\u00a0that Oleg submitted Togo, as I saw him roll to the floor and leave when Togo did. <i><b>Henare and Oleg fought on the apron, and both fell to the floor at 12:50.<\/b><\/i> <b>Master Wato<\/b>\u00a0(No. 12) ran in; <i><b>he and Desperado hit a team move and pinned Sho at 13:19.<\/b><\/i> <i><b>Douki was knocked off the apron to the floor. Jakob knocked Desperado off the apron to the floor.<\/b><\/i> Wato hit a dropkick on Jakob; they were the only two left in the ring.<\/p>\n<p><b>Great-O-Khan<\/b> slowly walked to ringside; he&#8217;s not acting like he&#8217;s getting in this one. Shota Umino was lying in the corner of the ring, so I think we&#8217;re down to our final three. O-Khan sat down on a chair in the middle of the ramp to the ring. <b>Jake Lee<\/b>\u00a0(No. 13) ran in at 16:30! No one had entered for several minutes until he got in! <i><b>Lee and Jakob both pressed Wato&#8217;s shoulders to the mat and pinned him at 16:56.<\/b><\/i> <i><b>Shota hit a spin kick and pinned Jakob at 17:32.<\/b><\/i> It&#8217;s just Shota vs. Jake Lee. Lee missed a Helluva Kick at 18:30.<\/p>\n<p>O-Khan jumped in the ring and stomped on Shota. (So &#8230; is he in this?) Shota pushed O-Khan into Lee. Shota clotheslined Lee to the floor. The bell didn&#8217;t sound, so I guess O-Khan is in this after all (and that means he&#8217;s No. 14). O-Khan and Shota fought along the ropes. O-Khan went for a Claw Slam, but Shota blocked it. Shota clotheslined O-Khan to the floor to win. BUT WAIT! Shun Skywalker immediately jumped in &#8212; we hadn&#8217;t seen him in several minutes &#8212; and he clotheslined Shota to the floor to win the Rambo!<\/p><div id=\"prowr-2078851361\" class=\"prowr-content-4 prowr-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_2 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_2\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><i>Shun Skywalker won a 14-man Rambo at 21:25.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>3. &#8220;United Empire&#8221; Callum Newman and Zane Jay vs. &#8220;The Unbound Co.&#8221; Jeff Cobb and Gedo.<\/b> It&#8217;s so good to see Cobb back and being used correctly. Callum and Cobb opened. Cobb slammed Gedo onto Newman. The UE began working over Gedo. Zane choked him in the corner. Cobb got the hot tag at 6:00, and he hit some shoulder thrusts in the corner on Newman.<\/p>\n<p>Cobb hit a release belly-to-belly suplex on Zane. Cobb hit a standing moonsault on Jay for a nearfall.\u00a0Newman hit a clothesline on Cobb. Zane also hit a clothesline on Cobb for a nearfall. Zane hit a fallaway slam for a nearfall at 7:30. Impressive power! Cobb nailed the Tour of the Islands swinging powerslam for the pin. Good action. Cobb jawed at Newman, who stood on the floor and refused to come back in and confront Jeff.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;The Unbound Co.&#8221; Jeff Cobb and Gedo defeated\u00a0&#8220;United Empire&#8221; Callum Newman and Zane Jay at 8:08.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>4. &#8220;The Mighty Don&#8217;t Kneel&#8221; Hartley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa, and Kosei Fujita vs. Aaron Wolf, Yuya Uemura, and Taichi.\u00a0<\/b>Oiwa carried his G1 Trophy with him. (TMDK leader<u> Zack Sabre Jr.<\/u> has been on a big tour of Mexico this month, so he&#8217;s not here.) I need Charlton in the booth to sing that the babyfaces are &#8220;just three guys!&#8221; Wolf and Kosei opened; those two have been feuding. Kosei tried some kicks, but Wolf blocked or absorbed them. Oiwa and Taichi locked up at 2:30. Oiwa and Kosei hit a team shoulder tackle to drop Taichi.<\/p>\n<p>Hartley tagged in at 5:00 and hit a suplex on Taichi. Oiwa and Taichi traded forearm strikes. Yuya tagged in at 7:00 and hit some flying forearms. He dragged Oiwa to the mat and applied a headlock. Hartley tagged back in and hit a splash in the corner on Yuya for a nearfall at 9:00. Yuya hit a dropkick and was fired up! Hartley hit a massive senton for a nearfall. Wolf hit a twisting uranage on Hartley!\u00a0Yuya hit a flying forearm, then a top-rope crossbody block to pin Jackson. That was a really strong, above-average preview tag.\u00a0Wolf and Kosei traded more forearm strikes after the bell!<\/p>\n<p><i>Aaron Wolf, Yuya Uemura, and Taichi defeated\u00a0&#8220;The Mighty Don&#8217;t Kneel&#8221; Hartley Jackson, Ryohei Oiwa, and Kosei Fujita at 10:56.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>5. Ryusuke Taguchi, Hirooki Goto, Yoshi-Hashi, Yoh, and Tatsuya Matsumoto\u00a0vs. &#8220;The Unbound Co.&#8221; Daiki Nagai, Robbie X, Taiji Ishimori, Shingo Takagi, and Yota Tsuji.<\/b>\u00a0Goto and Tsuji opened in an intense lockup, and they traded forearm strikes. They hit stereo clotheslines and were both down. Daiki and Tatsuya, the Young Lions on each team, got in at 2:00 and traded offense. Robbie X and Taguchi traded some basic reversals. Taguchi hit a spin kick to the jaw.\u00a0Robbie hit a slingshot senton on Yoshi-Hashi for a nearfall at 4:30.<\/p>\n<p>Shingo and Robbie hit a team shoulder tackle on Yoshi-Hashi. Shingo hit a big senton on Yoshi-Hashi for a nearfall. Goto flipped Yoshi-Hashi onto Shingo, and they hit some more team moves. Yoh entered and hit a dropkick on Ishimori at 7:30, then a suplex with a high bridge for a nearfall. Ishimori hit a Buzzsaw Kick, and he applied a Bone Lock (crossface) on the mat on Yoh.\u00a0Yoh hit a backbreaker over his knee on Ishimori.\u00a0Matsumoto tagged in at 9:30 and hit a running back elbow on Ishimori for a nearfall.<\/p>\n<p>Tatsuya hit an impressive dropkick. Taguchi and Daiki fought on the floor. In the ring, Taguchi started hitting flying buttbumps, but then he missed one and crashed. Yota hit a backbreaker over his knee. He hit a jumping knee on Goto, but Goto then hit a neckbreaker over his knee on Yota. Ishimori and Matsumoto traded forearm strikes. Robbie hit a corner moonsault ot the floor on Yoh. Meanwhile, Ishimori spun Matsumoto to the mat, applied the Bone Lock, and Tatsuya frantically tapped out. Good action.<\/p><div id=\"prowr-2077626147\" class=\"prowr-content-5 prowr-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_3 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_3\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><i>&#8220;The Unbound Co.&#8221; Daiki Nagai, Robbie X, Taiji Ishimori, Shingo Takagi, and Yota Tsuji defeated\u00a0Ryusuke Taguchi, Hirooki Goto, Yoshi-Hashi, Yoh, and Tatsuya Matsumoto at 12:33.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>6. &#8220;The Knockout Brothers&#8221; Oskar and Yuto-Ice vs. Toru Yano and Togi Makabe (w\/Tomoaki Honma) to become No. 1 contenders to the IWGP Tag Team Titles.<\/b> All four immediately began brawling as the introductions were wrapping up; we got the bell a second later. They all brawled to the floor. I&#8217;ll reiterate that Yano has dyed his hair blond, and he&#8217;s actually trying to be serious. Yano and Oskar brawled away from ringside, and Oskar shoved a chair into Toru&#8217;s throat. Oskar picked up a guardrail link and struck Yano with it. Honma was standing nearby, and he jawed at Oskar, but he didn&#8217;t interfere.<\/p>\n<p>Oskar and Yano got back into the ring, and Oskar got a nearfall at 3:30. Yuto-Ice got in and hit some punches to Yano&#8217;s ribs. They fought again to the floor, and Yano had a trickle of blood from his forehead! Oskar threw him back in, and Yuto-Ice continued to work over Yano. On the floor, Yano whipped Yuto-Ice into the guardrails at 7:00. They went past the guardrails and into the crowd. With Yano&#8217;s hair being blond, it was quickly turning red. (I am not a fan of blood in pro wrestling, but it sure is a striking visual.)<\/p>\n<p><b>Tomohiro Ishii<\/b> was still seated at ringside. (He had a headset on; was he really doing commentary??? He&#8217;s just sitting there, unmoved. It&#8217;s rather funny, because the chaos is all around him.) Yano got back into the ring. Yuto-Ice finally sat up on the floor, and he was now heavily bleeding from the forehead. In the ring, Togi hit repeated punches to Yuto-Ice&#8217;s head. Yano yanked Oskar off the apron at 14:30 so he couldn&#8217;t tag in. Yano and Togi continued to work over Yuto-Ice in their corner. Yano&#8217;s chest was covered in a lot of dried blood.<\/p>\n<p>Oskar got the hot tag at 16:00 and hit some shoulder tackles and a bodyslam, and he was fired up!\u00a0Oskar missed a guillotine leg drop on Yano. He put Yano in a Camel Clutch and cranked back on Toru&#8217;s neck. Oskar hit a bodyslam, and this time he hit the guillotine leg drop for a nearfall at 18:30. He applied a standing sleeper and pulled Yano to the center of the ring, but Toru escaped. Togi tagged in at 20:00, backed Oskar into a corner, and hit repeated punches. Togi hit a running sideslam for a nearfall. Togi and Yuto-Ice traded more forearm strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Togi hit a clothesline for a nearfall at 22:30. Yuto-Ice nailed a running knee for a believable nearfall.\u00a0The KO Bros hit a team slam on Togi for a nearfall. Yano jumped back in &#8212; his head was completely red now &#8212; and made the save. Makabe hit a clothesline for a nearfall on Yuto-Ice. Honma jumped in the ring! He traded blows with Yuto-Ice, and he hit a headbutt. Honma and Togi hit front-and-back clotheslines on Yuto-Ice. Makabe hit a Spider German Suplex out of the corner, but he missed a second-rope flying knee drop at 26:30! Yuto-Ice hit a running knee to the back of Makabe&#8217;s head.<\/p>\n<p><b>Takashi Iizuka<\/b> came out! To steal a line, he&#8217;s middle-aged and crazy!\u00a0Iizuka walked through the crowd and looped around the building, taking his time to get to the ring. Oskar and Yano brawled on the floor. Iizuka hit a chairshot on Oskar at 29:00! Iizuka rolled into the ring and bit Yuto-Ice! Iizuka pulled out his steel claw; he swung and missed. He put a sleeper on Yuto-Ice, but Oskar put a sleeper on Iizuka to choke him out. Iizuka\u00a0hit some Mongolian Chops on Yuto-Ice.<\/p>\n<p>Yano powerbombed Yuto-Ice, then Togi hit the King Kong Knee Drop to Yuto-Ice&#8217;s forehead for a nearfall at 31:30!\u00a0Honma got back in and hit a flying headbutt on Oskar!\u00a0Yuto-Ice and Makabe traded more forearm strikes. Togi hit another clothesline, then another, but Yuto-Ice kicked out at one! Togi hit a Polish Hammer to the chest for a nearfall. Oskar hit a Tombstone Piledriver for the pin!<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;The Knockout Brothers&#8221; Oskar and Yuto-Ice defeated Toru Yano and Togi Makabe at 34:01 to become the No. 1 contenders to the IWGP Tag Team Titles.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Final Thoughts:<\/b> Two things can be true at once. <b>1) <\/b>That main event went way too long, but <b>2)<\/b> Yano and Makabe just had their best match in a year, and maybe longer. Yes, it could have been tighter and still great at closer to 18-22 minutes. The Iizuka appearance was fun, too. I started watching NJPW around 2017, so Makabe has always been old and slow since I started watching, but he and Yuto-Ice are perfect dance partners.<\/p>\n<p>A strong show. Several of the undercard matches were better than I anticipated. The Wolf-Kosei feud has been really fun.
