The crowd was perhaps 200; they have been holding pretty steady for a weekly show. Paul Crockett, &#8220;Handyman&#8221; Jake Gray, and\u00a0referee Scott Robinson\u00a0provided commentary.<\/p>\n<p>* The Von Erich Classic six-man tag tournament started last week, and it continues tonight! Only four total matches were advertised, including two tourney matches.<\/p>\n<p><b>1. Devious Cass vs. Vinny Talotta in a spotlight match.<\/b> Robinson handled this solo on commentary. Cass is an impressive teen from Philly who is getting booked all over the Northeast. Talotta usually teams with Mike Walker, and he&#8217;s a talented ring vet. He has competed in Worcester, but I think this is his RI debut. Basic back-and-forth early on. Vinny hit some chops in the corner. Cass stomped on him, and he tied Talotta&#8217;s leg in the ropes. Cass went for an ankle lock at 4:00, but Vinny quickly escaped. Cass hit a chop block on the knee. He grapevined the leg on the mat, but Talotta escaped again. Vinny hit a gut-wrench suplex. He hit a modified Angle Slam for the pin! I liked that.<\/p>\n<p><i>Vinny Talotta defeated Devious Cass at 5:31.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>* Paul Crockett and &#8220;Handyman&#8221; Jake Gray took over on commentary.<\/p>\n<p><b>2. Shannon LeVangie vs. Paris Van Dale.<\/b> Former teammates collide! Both have missed long stretches of action with injuries. They shoved each other, and Shannon hit a spin kick, then a dropkick for a nearfall. Paris hit a German Suplex for a nearfall at 1:00. Paris choked her in the corner, lifting Shannon off the ground. Shannon hit a missile dropkick and some punches in the corner, then a Helluva Kick and a springboard fadeaway stunner for a nearfall at 3:30.<\/p>\n<p>They got up and traded forearm strikes. They traded rollups for nearfalls, then stereo kicks to the head, and they were both down. Shannon set up for a Twist of Fate, but Paris escaped and rolled to the floor. They brawled at ringside. Paris hit a Gory Bomb, dropping Shannon face-first on the apron! Paris got her in the ring and hit the Splits Stunner for a nearfall. However, Shannon got an inside cradle for the flash pin! Solid match.<\/p>\n<p><i>Shannon LeVangie defeated Paris Van Dale at 6:17.<\/i><\/p><div id=\"prowr-3343788417\" class=\"prowr-content-4 prowr-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_2 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_2\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>* Footage aired of the feud between\u00a0<b>Marcus Mathers<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Dustin Waller.<\/b> Dustin has been trying to bring out Mathers&#8217; aggressive side in recent weeks. Back at the venue, these two had a confrontation on the stage. Mathers told Dustin he&#8217;s the absolute worst. He turned to the camera and addressed\u00a0<u>Flyin&#8217; Ryan O&#8217;Neill<\/u>, and he apologized for injuring him last week, knocking him out of action this week. (It didn&#8217;t stop O&#8217;Neill from wrestling Saturday on AEW Collision!) Waller told Mathers he should get on his knees and apologize to him. Mathers challenged Waller to another match&#8230; this Friday at Americanrana! Dustin agreed&#8230; if Marcus can pin him in the six-man match later tonight!<\/p>\n<p><b>3. Rickey Shane Page vs. Oxx Adams.<\/b> Congrats to Oxx, who competed on Saturday&#8217;s ROH taping at AEW Collision! (He got to battle Brian Cage!) The seven-footer has dropped a lot of weight and has earned these types of opportunities. They brawled at the bell. RSP hit a crossbody block against the ropes. Oxx nailed a Sidewalk Slam at 1:30, and Crockett marveled at Oxx&#8217;s power in getting the big RSP up &#8220;with ease.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oxx hit a running Claymore Kick and got a nearfall. It appeared Oxx was going for a Cross-face Chickenwing, but RSP blocked it, and RSP hit a DDT, and they were both down at 5:00. They got up and traded forearm strikes. Rickey hit a Swanton Bomb for a nearfall. Oxx nailed a chokeslam for the decisive pin. Another big win for Oxx.<\/p>\n<p><i>Oxx Adams defeated Ricky Shane Page at 6:37.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>4. Devon Reno and\u00a0&#8220;The Verdict&#8221; Bryce Donovan and Vinny &#8220;VSK&#8221; Scalice vs. Bobby Orlando, Bobby Casale, and Danny Miles in a Von Erich Classic semifinal match.<\/b> No &#8220;Smart&#8221; Mark Sterling tonight. Casale and VSK opened, and Casale hit a roundhouse kick to the chest. Bryce made a blind tag, and he bodyslammed Casale across Vinny&#8217;s knees at 2:30. Miles got a hot tag and hit a leg lariat to Bryce&#8217;s jaw. Orlando got in at 4:00 and hit some jab punches on Devon. Miles hit a big back-body drop on Reno.<\/p>\n<p>The heels began working over Danny in their corner. Bryce hit a series of elbow drops.\u00a0Orlando got a hot tag at 8:30 and he superkicked Bryce, then VSK. He hit a Lungblower on Devon and a running neckbreaker on Bryce. Orlando hit a Blue Thunder Bomb on VSK. He went for a top-rope elbow drop, but Vinny got his knees up to block it. Vinny hit a Lungblower. He hit a German Suplex, tossing Orlando into the turnbuckles! Casale jumped in at 11:00, and he hit a German Suplex on Devon, then one on Bryce. He hit a neckbreaker over the knee on VSK!\u00a0Miles hit a rolling cannonball.<\/p>\n<p>Casale hit a powerslam on VSK for a nearfall. Scalice knocked Miles off the top turnbuckle. Bryce hit a Black Hole Slam on Miles at 12:30. Bryce chokeslammed Casale. Orlando dove through the ropes onto Bryce, but Bryce caught him by the throat! Vinny dove onto Orlando. Miles hit an Asai Moonsault! Nice! In the ring, Orlando hit the Athena-style flying stunner on Devon. He went back to the top rope, but Bryce tripped him! Devon immediately hit a flying shoulder block to Orlando&#8217;s knee! Devon immediately hit a swinging suplex and pinned Orlando! Crockett was shocked that former champ Orlando was pinned there.<\/p>\n<p><i>Devon Reno and\u00a0&#8220;The Verdict&#8221; Bryce Donovan and Vinny &#8220;VSK&#8221; Scalice defeated Bobby Orlando, Bobby Casale, and Danny Miles at 14:12 to advance to the finals of the Von Erich Classic.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>5. Wrestling Open Champion Bear Bronson vs, Love, Doug in a non-title match.<\/b> Of course, Bronson competed in Chicago a day ago for TNA. He got on the mic and asked Doug if he was sure he wanted this match. Doug responded by slapping Bear in the face, and we got the bell!\u00a0Crockett wondered if this was a good idea. Bear pushed him into a corner and chopped him. Bear hit a bodyslam at 1:30. Bear hit a series of chops, and Doug&#8217;s chest was turning raw and red.\u00a0Bronson hit a Gorilla Press. &#8220;Doug is being overwhelmed here,&#8221; Crockett said.<\/p>\n<p>Bear missed a splash in the corner at 4:00, then he missed his butt drop to the chest. Doug immediately hit a crossbody block on a seated Bronson for a nearfall. Doug hit a bulldog for a nearfall. Bear shouted, &#8220;If you want to win, you need to hit me harder!&#8221; Doug unloaded some punches and forearm strikes. Bear hit a clothesline at 6:30.\u00a0Doug hit the mid-ring Sliced Bread! He got Bear up and hit a Death Valley Driver for a nearfall! Doug hit some superkicks. He went for the Lariat of Love, but Bronson caught him and hit a Black Hole Slam, then the Choke Bomb for the pin. That was exactly what it should have been.<\/p><div id=\"prowr-208273166\" class=\"prowr-content-5 prowr-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_3 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_3\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><i>Wrestling Open Champion Bear Bronson defeated Love, Doug in a non-title match at 6:19.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>* Bear spoke loudly to Doug (so the crowd could hear) and told him that he showed a lot of heart. They hugged. (<i>I fully expected interference from TJ Crawford or Brad Hollister here, so I&#8217;m pleasantly surprised. Good booking decision.<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p><b>6. Marcus Mathers and &#8220;Bustah &amp; The Brain&#8221; Alec Price and Jordan Oliver vs. Dustin Waller, DJ Powers, and Nick Battee\u00a0in a Von Erich Classic semifinal match.<\/b> They&#8217;ve been teasing a Mathers&#8217; heel turn here for the past month; I presume he will make a gaffe that costs his team the win. (But that segment earlier has me re-thinking that!) The heels came out first; DJ grabbed the mic but was loudly booed. He predicted this would be the best six-man tag match in Wrestling Open history. The heels attacked from behind during the introductions. And we&#8217;re underway!\u00a0Crockett pointed out the opening bell had yet to ring.<\/p>\n<p>Mathers jumped into the ring, and <i>we got a bell at 00:42<\/i>, and he immediately rolled up Waller for a nearfall! The babyfaces worked over Dustin. Price and Oliver hit a team spinebuster; they tagged in Mathers so he could attempt the tag. (<i>MATHERS must get the pinfall on Waller,\u00a0<b>not<\/b>\u00a0just anyone on the team<\/i>!) DJ tagged in at 3:00 and brawled with Marcus. The heels pushed Marcus into their corner. Battee hit a jumping knee to the chin. Waller applied a headlock and cranked back on Mathers&#8217; neck. Marcus hit a back-body drop at 6:30, but he couldn&#8217;t tag out.<\/p>\n<p>DJ tagged back in and cut Mathers off from tagging out. Oliver got the hot tag, and he hit some superkicks and hip-tosses. He hit a dropkick on Battee and was fired up. Alec hit a top-rope double stomp for a nearfall. DJ hit a superkick on Price. Alec nailed a running crossbody block on Powers at 8:30. Mathers got back in and traded punches with Battee. Nick hit a DDT on Marcus for a nearfall. Marcus hit a DVD on Nick, but he didn&#8217;t go for a pin! He wants to pin Waller! Price and Oliver urged him to go for the pin because they want to advance in this tournament!<\/p>\n<p>Oliver got in and hit an Acid Kick. Price hit a Rebound Lariat, and suddenly everyone was down at 11:00. Waller tagged back in and traded punches with Alec. Dustin hit a clothesline in the corner. Bustah and the Brain jumped in and hit some blows in the corner on Dustin. Alec hit a brainbuster, and they tagged in Marcus! Marcus hit a swinging faceplant on Waller for a nearfall at 13:00, but the other heels broke it up.<\/p>\n<p>Waller pushed Marcus into Price! Waller hit the Mamba Splash on Marcus for a nearfall.\u00a0Waller hit a superkick on Marcus at 15:00. The babyfaces pulled Powers and Battee off the apron so they couldn&#8217;t tag in! Marcus rolled up Waller with an O&#8217;Connor Roll-style high bridge and got the pin! I loved how that match was laid out.<\/p>\n<p><i>Marcus Mathers and &#8220;Bustah &amp; The Brain&#8221; Alec Price &amp; Jordan Oliver defeated Dustin Waller, DJ Powers, and Nick Battee\u00a0at 16:11 to advance to the finals of the Von Erich Classic.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>* Scalice, Donovan, and Reno came out to confront the winners!<\/p>\n<p><b>Final Thoughts:<\/b> I&#8217;ll say it again &#8212; the best wrestling show on Monday nights. Two very satisfying tournament matches. I loved how that main event was laid out because it really felt like this could have gone either way. I definitely saw a scenario where Mathers would break up an attempted pin by one of his teammates, because he was the one who needed to get the pin. Great action throughout, as there was so much talent in that match.<\/p>\n<p>So, we&#8217;ve set up a tremendous final in the tournament. I&#8217;d love to see the babyface trio win, but it feels like Donovan, VSK, and Reno will be bragging about winning this tournament for the rest of the year. Again, a match that could go either way.<\/p>\n<p>The other matches were fine. A huge win for Oxx, and I&#8217;ll reiterate that he&#8217;s like Brody King, with his size and tattoos. But I&#8217;ll make a Gunther comparison too, as he&#8217;s lost a similar amount of bulk as Gunther. Doug showed a lot of heart, but yes, Bronson got the clean win as he should have.\u00a0I really don&#8217;t mean to bash Wrestling Open Thursdays, but last week&#8217;s episode was not a &#8220;top 50 percent of their shows&#8221; night. The gap between the quality of Monday and Thursday shows is vast right now.
