Joseph set up a video package that recapped last week&#8217;s show, which included Kendal Grey beating Lola Vice in an NXT Underground match to retain the NXT Women&#8217;s Championship, and Myles Borne and Tavion Heights beating Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes to win the NXT Tag Team Titles&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Lizzy Rain was stressed out backstage while questioning the whereabouts of her tag team partner, Shawn Spears. Their opponents, Izzi Dame and Niko Vance, gave Rain the &#8220;told you so&#8221; treatment before making their entrance. Rain said she&#8217;d go it alone. Rain made her entrance and went right after Dame&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Niko Vance and Izzi Dame vs. Lizzy Rain and EK Prosper.<\/strong> Rain started the match without Spears. Rain put Dame down. Dame sat on the mat and smiled when she tagged in Vance. Joseph said it shouldn&#8217;t be legal for Vance to face Rain given the rules of a mixed tag team match.<\/p>\n<p>EK Prosper&#8217;s entrance music played. Vance went to ringside to meet him, but Prosper hit him with an Asai moonsault. The heel duo took offensive control before a picture-in-picture break. [C]\u00a0A graphic listed NXT Women&#8217;s Champion Kendal Grey as appearing next.<\/p>\n<p>The heel duo worked over Prosper until he made a hot tag, which didn&#8217;t get much of a reaction from the live crowd. Rain went for a knee strike on Vance, who popped her up into a Dame powerbomb. The crowd came to life with a &#8220;this is awesome&#8221; chant.<\/p>\n<p>Rain came back and hit her Thunderstruck knee strike on Vance, and then Prosper followed up with a knee strike of his own. Prosper performed a moonsault and pinned Vance&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Lizzy Rain and EK Prosper beat Niko Vance and Izzi Dame in 11:15.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Powell&#8217;s POV:<\/strong><\/span> A good mixed tag team match. Dame and Vance really need to ditch The Culling name and entrance because it&#8217;s doing more harm than good.<\/p><div id=\"prowr-381584053\" class=\"prowr-content-4 prowr-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_2 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_2\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_2\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Footage aired from last week of new NXT Tag Team Champions Myles Borne and Tavion Heights celebrating their win in the locker room with various wrestlers, including several babyface tag teams. Heights declared that they intend to be fighting champions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>NXT Women&#8217;s Champion Kendal Grey was on a trainer&#8217;s table with Wren Sinclair standing by. The trainer told Grey that her ear was healing, but she was still probably a week away from being medically cleared. Joseph said Grey would appear after a break&#8230; [C]<\/p>\n<p>Emily Agard interviewed Lizzy Rain and EK Prosper backstage after their win. Kali Armstrong showed up, took the mic, and headed to the ring. Kelani Jordan interrupted Armstrong and assumed she planned to say she wanted a shot at the NXT Women&#8217;s Championship. Jordan entered the ring and said Armstrong needed to get to the back of the line.<\/p>\n<p>NXT Women&#8217;s Champion Kendal Grey&#8217;s entrance theme interrupted Jordan. Grey and Women&#8217;s Speed Champion Wren Sinclair made their entrance. Grey presented Jordan with a contract for a title shot and said it could happen any time, any place. Armstrong also wanted a title shot.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan said maybe they could have the title match next week. Jordan reconsidered, saying she wasn&#8217;t going to waste her first NXT Women&#8217;s Championship match on the fans in Orlando. Jordan said the match would take place at NXT Heatwave.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong got upset and complained about not getting a title shot. Sinclair asked if she heard Grey say it would happen after her match with Jordan. Armstrong swung at Sinclair, who ducked it, and the punch hit Grey. Sinclair tried to fight both heels, but they quickly beat her down and left her lying with Grey. Jordan and Armstrong went face-to-face&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Backstage, Cruz Montana thanked NXT General Manager Robert Stone for making his No. 1 contender match happen. Keanu Carver showed up and complained about Stone giving &#8220;two new guys&#8221; a No. 1 contender&#8217;s match. Montana looked at Carver and asked, &#8220;What&#8217;s good?&#8221; Carver settled down and wished him good luck before walking away.<\/p>\n<p>Montana asked Stone what was up with Carver. Stone said he didn&#8217;t know and ran after him. Carver told Stone that he just wished Montana good luck. Carver said he was figuring things out last week. Carver said he had a pretty smooth match with EK Prosper. Carver said there&#8217;s more of that coming and told Stone that he hasn&#8217;t seen anything yet&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>DarkState&#8217;s Dion Lennox, Osiris Griffin, and Cutler James made their entrance&#8230; [C] Saquon Shugars made his entrance with his baseball hat in hand while ring announcer Mike Rome introduced him&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Saquon Shugars vs. Dion Lennox (Osiris Griffin, Cutler James). <\/strong>Shugars had Lennox on his knees with his head draped over the middle rope when he ran and dove onto him. Shugars threw Lennox back inside the ring. Griffin and James approached Shugars, who grabbed his baseball bat and walked toward them. Lennox reached over the ropes and took the bat.<\/p><div id=\"prowr-2354077354\" class=\"prowr-content-5 prowr-entity-placement\"><!-- Tag ID: prowrestling_incontent_3 -->\r\n<div align=\"center\" data-freestar-ad=\"__336x280 __336x280\" id=\"prowrestling_incontent_3\">\r\n  <script data-cfasync=\"false\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\r\n    freestar.config.enabled_slots.push({ placementName: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\", slotId: \"prowrestling_incontent_3\" });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Shugars went to the apron and ducked when Lennox swung the bat at him. The idiot referee turned and walked to the other side of the ring to clear the bat. Griffin and James pulled Shugars off the apron and onto the broadcast table. Griffin and James tossed Shugars back in the ring. Lennox hit his suplex powerslam and scored the pin&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Dion Lennox beat Saquon Shugars in 5:00.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Powell&#8217;s POV:<\/strong><\/span> Meh. Joseph kept talking about how the feud needs to end. I couldn&#8217;t agree more, but not for the reasons Vic was trying to sell. It&#8217;s hard for two wrestlers who are both trying to get over to get there while working against one another. In this case, Lennox won the match, but he didn&#8217;t gain anything from winning because the referee was a moron.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Stone was shown in his office and had a phone conversation with AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio. They agreed to hold a four-way match next week to determine the number one contender for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, and then Rey Fenix will defend the title the following week. Rey suggested that EK Prosper and La Parka be in the match. Rey said he had to go, but told Stone that he trusted him to select the other two wrestlers for the four-way match&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>NXT Women\u2019s North American Champion Zaria made her entrance&#8230; [C]<\/p>\n<p>Grayson Waller entered the trainer&#8217;s room and fired up Saquon Shugars, who was on a trainer&#8217;s table, by asking what he was going to do about what had just happened to him. Waller left the room, and then Shugars grabbed his bat and stumbled around while selling his injuries from this match&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>WWE Speed Women&#8217;s Champion Wren Sinclair made her entrance&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Zaria vs. Wren Sinclair for the NXT Women\u2019s North American Championship.<\/strong> Mike Rome delivered in-ring introductions for the title match. Zaria dropped Sinclair with a pump kick and covered her for an early two count. Zaria stood on the ropes and tried to pull up Sinclair, who wrenched Zaria&#8217;s arm over the top rope. Sinclair performed a clunky kick under the bottom turnbuckle before a PIP break. [C]<\/p>\n<p><strong>[Hour Two]<\/strong> Saquon Shugars and Dion Lennox fought into the studio. Shugars wound up to hit Lennox with a bat, but a referee took it away. Shugars and Lennox fought their way into the ring. Osiris Griffin and Cutler James came out. Shugars dove at Lennox and they both tumbled over the top rope to the floor. James entered the ring with a chair. Sinclair dropkicked the chair at James, who tumbled out of the ring. Zaria hoisted up Sinclair and hit an F5 and then covered her for the pin.<\/p>\n<p><em>Zaria beat Wren Sinclair in 9:40 to retain the NXT Women\u2019s North American Championship.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Powell&#8217;s POV:<\/strong><\/span> A distraction finish? Why? I like Sinclair a lot, but she strikes me as a bit of an underdog. Zaria should have pinned her clean rather than gaining nothing by winning off a distraction. I hope the creative team didn&#8217;t think they needed to protect Sinclair because she holds one of the worthless Speed titles.<\/p>\n<p>A Shiloh Hill phone video aired. He said the doctor told him that he&#8217;d never seen someone&#8217;s bones start to heal so quickly. He said he wasn&#8217;t sure when he&#8217;d be cleared. He also spoke about Naraku&#8217;s mist. He said the &#8220;poison fog&#8221; comes in different colors. He said each color has a different effect. He said he was going to test them out on some local pests and would let everyone know what he found out&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Mason Rook made his entrance&#8230; [C] Joseph hyped this weekend&#8217;s live events, including WWE Champion CM Punk appearing at Saturday&#8217;s show in Petersburg, Virginia&#8230; Kam Hendrix made his entrance&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Mason Rook vs. Kam Hendrix.<\/strong> Late in the match, Rook performed a release German suplex. He followed up with a corner splash on Hendrix, who pulled off the top turnbuckle pad and tossed it into the crowd. Rook performed a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Rook set up for another move, but Hendrix shoved his head into the exposed turnbuckle. Hendrix followed up with a Showtime Kick and then pinned Rook. Joseph labeled Hendrix&#8217;s win an upset&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Kam Hendrix beat Mason Rook in 4:45.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Powell&#8217;s POV:<\/strong><\/span> I didn&#8217;t mind this finish. Granted, it&#8217;s annoying that they are trying to protect everyone tonight, but at least this finish fit with Hendrix&#8217;s opportunistic character.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Stone spoke with The Vanity Project&#8217;s Jackson Drake, Myka Lockwood, Brad Baylor, and Ricky Smokes inside his office. Baylor and Smokes were complaining about Myles Borne and Tavion Heights not being a real tag team. Drake took issue with Waller talking smack about the wrestlers in the men&#8217;s division and said he clearly wasn&#8217;t talking about him, Baylor, or Smokes.<\/p>\n<p>NXT Tag Team Champions Myles Borne and Tavion Heights entered the room. Stone said he would give Drake the same deal he gave Borne. He said that if Drake wins a singles match, he&#8217;ll challenge Borne for the NXT North American Championship, and Baylor and Smokes will get a shot at the NXT Tag Team Titles. After some debate, Borne said he&#8217;d wrestle twice if Drake wins his match next week. The wrestlers questioned who Drake&#8217;s opponent would be. Hill said it would be Shiloh Hill&#8230; [C]<\/p>\n<p>The Birthright faction was in the ring coming out of the break. Lucien Price made his entrance&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Lucien Price vs. Lexis King (w\/Stacks Lorenzo, Charlie Dempsey, Uriah Connors, Arianna Grace).<\/strong> Late in the match, King hit Price from behind, but Price came right back with a headbutt. Price knocked Connors off the apron and then hit King with a one-armed powerbomb before pinning him&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Lucien Price beat Lexis King in 3:30.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Powell&#8217;s POV:<\/strong><\/span> Price was really over with the group of fans, who had signs and chanted for him. The rest of the crowd seemed flat during this match. At least the right guy went over, and someone actually went over strong.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Stone was leaving someone a phone message. He ended the call when Kendal Grey and Wren Sinclair entered the office. Sinclair vented about the way she lost her match and wanted a rematch. Stone said he had to think about it. Sinclair said she&#8217;d sweeten the pot by making it a unification match. Stone liked the idea and made the match for Heatwave.<\/p>\n<p>Stone also booked Grey and Sinclair vs. Kali Armstrong and Kelani Jordan. Sinclair started to say that Grey wasn&#8217;t medically cleared, but Grey cut her off and insisted that she&#8217;d be cleared by next week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Joseph hyped the show&#8217;s main event&#8230; [C]<\/p>\n<p>Jaida Parker and Thea Hail spoke in the dressing room. Parker told Hail that facing Nattie isn&#8217;t as easy as she looks. Hail said that&#8217;s exactly why she has to take her on. Hail asked Parker if she&#8217;d be there. Parker said she would, and then Hail hugged her&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Romeo Moreno informed Noam Dar that Robert Stone wants him to be in the four-way for a shot at the AAA Cruiserweight Championship. Moreno was reluctant due to his partnership with Dar, who talked him into taking the match. Tristan Angels entered the picture and told Moreno that it didn&#8217;t matter if Moreno was in the match. Angels said he&#8217;d be in the match and spoke confidently about it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The broadcast team ran through the lineup for next week&#8217;s show: EK Prosper vs. La Parka vs. Romeo Moreno vs. Tristan Angels for a shot at the AAA Cruiserweight Championship; Kendal Grey and Wren Sinclair vs. Kelani Jordan and Kali Armstrong, Shiloh Hill vs. Jackson Drake, and Lexis King vs. Lucien Price for the WWE Speed Championship. They didn&#8217;t list Nattie vs. Thea Hail, but that match will also take place next week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Powell&#8217;s POV:<\/strong><\/span> I was hoping that the unification match between Zaria and Wren Sinclair was a sign that the WWE Speed titles were going to disappear, but they rained on my parade by announcing that King will defend his worthless Speed Championship next week.<\/p>\n<p>Separate shots aired of Cruz Montana and Grayson Waller&#8230; NXT Champion Tony D&#8217;Angelo made his entrance&#8230; [C] Cruz Montana made his entrance through the crowd, and then Grayson Waller&#8217;s entrance followed&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Cruz Montana vs. Grayson Waller to become the No. 1 contender for the NXT Championship.<\/strong> NXT Champion Tony D&#8217;Angelo sat in on commentary. The wrestlers traded punches early in the match. Waller backed Montana into a corner of the ring and punched him. Montana came right back with a suplex and then covered Waller for a one count.<\/p>\n<p>A short time later, Montana performed a suicide dive that sent Waller crashing over the broadcast table. Montana hopped onto the table and pointed at D&#8217;Angel before a PIP break. [C]\u00a0Joseph mistakenly referred to Montana as Santana (I&#8217;ve had to delete the Santana name several times tonight).<\/p>\n<p>Montana booted Waller off the apron. Montana set up for a suicide dive, but Waller went to the apron and cut him off. Waller did his running roll into the ring and performed a Flatliner for a near fall. Waller jumped up and Stomped the standing Montana, which drove his face into the mat. Waller covered Montana for a near fall.<\/p>\n<p>Montana rallied. Joseph said the wrong name again, but he quickly corrected himself. Waller clotheslined Montana over the top rope. Waller went for another rolling move, but Montana drilled him with Spin The Block.<\/p>\n<p>Zilla Fatu entered the ring and hit Montana with a pop-up Samoan Drop to end the match.<\/p>\n<p><i>Cruz Montana fought Grayson Waller to an apparent no-contest in 12:50.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Afterward, Fatu performed a Superman Punch that took out Waller. The fans chanted &#8220;Fatu.&#8221; Zilla hit top rope splashes on both men. Joseph assumed that Zilla was the mystery person that Robert Stone had been talking to. The executive producer credits were shown. Zilla stood in the ring and told D&#8217;Angelo that he needed his title. Zilla said there was a new champ and a new sheriff in town. Joseph questioned who would be next to challenge D&#8217;Angelo for the title at their next PLE&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Powell&#8217;s POV:<\/strong><\/span> The broadcast team acted like Zilla Fatu was a household name, just as they did for Nikki Blackheart (before she was renamed Reina Volcan). It works a little better with Zilla, because fans who are not familiar with him will surely take notice of his last name. For those who don&#8217;t know, Zilla is the son of the late Umaga, meaning he&#8217;s Jacob Fatu&#8217;s first cousin. Zilla is a fun addition to the roster, and it looks like they already have him slotted in the title picture. In fact, I&#8217;m guessing it will end up being D&#8217;Angelo vs. Montana vs. Waller vs. Zilla in a four-way for the NXT Championship at NXT Heatwave.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, this was a frustrating show at times, but the surprise debut of Zilla Fatu closed the show on a high note. It&#8217;s not often that I&#8217;m cool with a no-contest finish, but this was one of those times. I&#8217;m pretty sure I speak for Vic Joseph when I ask if it&#8217;s too late to reconsider this Cruz Montana name? I&#8217;m sure it will grow on me eventually, but I totally understand why Vic is having a tough transition from Santana to Montana.
