NXT Live Event
Portland, Oregon
Report by Dot Net reader Che Goldman

1. No Way Jose beat Murphy. Jose was super over with the crowd.

2. Tucker Knight beat Tino Sabbatelli. Knight won via Lou Thesz Press. Awkward match.

3. Bayley defeated Nia Jax. Bayley won by roll up in a good back in forth bout. Nia Jax kept her monster heel swagger even in defeat. These two work really well together.

4. Austin Aries defeated Mojo Rawley. The crowd was fully behind Aries. The Portland crowd wanted nothing to do with the get hype nonsense. Good match though with Aries playing the Brett Hart role on NXT.

5. American Alpha defeated The Revival to retain the NXT Tag Titles. Best match of the night by far. Excellent psychology with two false finishes that legitimately made me think we had new champions. Two of the best tag teams in the world today.

Intermission

William Regal came out after intermission to thank the crowd. He was met with cheers and praise.

6. Shinsuke Nakamara defeated Elias Samson. Nakamara way over as a baby face, Samson was surprisingly way over as a heel. I knew that seeing Nakamara was going to be something special but was left with a high opinion of the Drifter character.

7. Asuka defeated Alexa Bliss to retain the NXT Women’s Title. Asuka won by submission via Asukalock.

8. Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor to retain the NXT Title. Joe won by roll up with a fist full of tights. Great wrestling match that left me wanting to see the followup at Takeover. Both wrestlers’ finishers were teased during the match, and the in-ring work was very smooth and tight. Balor got his heat back after the match by attacking Joe leading to the locker room clearing to break them up. The action reached a crescendo when Balor hit Joe and all the wrestlers hold Joe back with a flipping plancha from the ring to the outside. The show ended with Balor alone in the ring standing defiant.

My non-wrestling highlight of the night was being flipped off by Scott Dawson of the Revival from the balcony of the Moda Center. I proceeded to tell him to suck it. My NXT experience was amazing, look forward to there return to Northwest.
