Did WWE's chief of security lie about the date of Chris Benoit's last contact with the company?
Mar 28, 2008 - 09:19 AM

WWE chief of security Dennis Fagan twice stated the wrong day of Chris Benoit's last communication with WWE during a 911 call in which he requested a "welfare check" on the Benoit home. In a call made on the Monday afternoon just hours before the Benoit tribute show on Raw, Fagan recalled a text message that Benoit sent another wrestler.

"At three o'clock this morning there was a message left for one of the other wrestlers," Fagan is heard saying on the 911 audio. "And basically it says, 'The dogs are in the backyard. The back door is open. Goodbye.' And that's it."

Author Irvin Muchnick doesn't believe Fagan spoke ambiguously or in confusion. "The fair conclusion is that he did not," Muchnick says. "For example, if the theory is that he meant Sunday morning rather than Monday morning, because he had just been referring to Benoit's failure to show up for the Sunday pay-per-view, that theory is dispelled by Fagan's repetition of the error a few seconds later. In a completely neutral context, Fagan says a second time, 'That message was left at three o'clock this morning.'" To read the full story, visit Wrestling Babylon News.

Powell’s POV: Muchnick won't go so far as to accuse Fagan of lying during the 911 call because he admits it's possible that Fagan was simply mistaken. However, he states that critics could speculate that Vince McMahon knew that the incident was a double homicide/suicide well before he went on the air with the Benoit tribute show that night. It's an interesting theory and I suggest you read the entire story at Irvin's website.
