Shore's WWE Smackdown Hit List: John Cena vs. Eric Rowan Hits, as does The Usos vs. Cody Rhodes and Goldust, but most of show misses especially Total Divas
WWE Smackdown Hits
The Usos vs. Cody Rhodes and Goldust: The most entertaining match of the night gets a Hit primarily for the end of the match. The first part was merely OK but they turned it up big at the end. The only problem here wasn't even in the match. It was WWE failing to expand on what Cody said to JBL at ringside after the loss. At this point I'm not sure if we get a team heel turn or just a Cody heel turn.
John Cena vs. Eric Rowan: Rowan is still green by WWE standards and they did a good enough job here of protecting him to make this a Hit. Cena bumped around for him well, and the big man is good enough to hang in these situations. His biggest asset is going to be as a tag team with Harper, which I hope they kick off soon. Cena's win here doesn't hurt anyone as it should be expected for Rowan to lose to him, and the Usos being at ringside also gave him a little bit of cover.
Batista kills Dolph Ziggler: Even though their match was less than spectacular, the post-match beat down from Batista deserves a Hit because it flat worked. It wasn't long, or flashy, or anything like that. It was methodical and had the best seller in all of wrestling there to make it believable. Batista needed that lift and Ziggler provided it for him beautifully.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Middle of the show: There were eight matches on this show. Five of them were for a total of 7:03, making the combined time shorter than two of the remaining three matches (Batista and Ziggler went 5:00 roughly). That's not a good wrestling show and it's trying to do too much at one time. I'm not saying every match has to be a 15 minute classic, but when the vast majority of your matches are averaging just over 1:40, you're doing it wrong.
Total Divas crossovers: It's bad enough that the "reality" show Total Divas is getting more and more scripted. What's worse is when they drag those terrible storylines over to the main roster as the pretense to have a match. Total Divas viewership is way below Raw and Smackdown, and I'm not even sure how aware of the show the average fan is. When they get these matches with only a quick video background, the match loses its effect and the women suffer for it. Please WWE. Just stop.
