Dot Net Awards: 2014 Best Tag Team
2015-02-06 11:00:59

Dot Net readers voted on a variety of 2014 awards throughout the month of January. The following are the results of our poll for Best Tag Team. Thanks to everyone who took part in the voting. You can check out the past winners in our Awards section.

(1) Jimmy and Jey Uso: 24 percent
(2) Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly: 12 percent
(3) The Young Bucks: 11 percent
(4) Goldust and Stardust: 10 percent
(5) The Miz and Mizdow: 10 percent
Others: 33 percent

Jason Powell's Thoughts: I dig the Uso Brothers, but their act suffered in my eyes because they were overexposed. WWE relied on them to fill a bunch of television time way too often, and they did so to the best of their abilities, but it numbed me to even their most impressive spots. They finish a close second to the great Fish and O'Reilly team. Red Dragon worked with a wide variety of opponents and never disappointed, and I love the improvement they showed as characters.

Will Pruett's Thoughts: Tag Team wrestling in the major United States companies was a wasteland this year. Outside of major United States companies, it flourished. The Young Bucks and Red Dragon highlighted the indie tag team scene. Both teams also traveled to and had success in Japan. The Bucks proved to be the best and, quite possibly, the most entertaining tag team in all of wrestling. Their unique in-ring style has seen even WWE rip it off. Their ability to market themselves is second to none. The Young Bucks are showing the world exactly what those of us in Southern California have known for years: they're amazing.

Jake Barnett's Thoughts: Without any hesitation, my vote goes to Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly. These two have had dynamite years in both NJPW and ROH, and have really matured on the microphone to become of the most well rounded tag teams in Pro Wrestling. I'm not sure how much longer the ride lasts, as Kyle O'Reilly seems poised for a breakout singles career, but for now I'll enjoy ReDRagon for what they are as they continue to dominate both Ring of Honor and NJPW in what have been highly athletic and frenetic contests.

Zack Zimmerman's Thoughts: Young Bucks - While tag team wrestling in WWE has fallen off this year compared to recent years, tag team wrestling as a whole has never been stronger. At the forefront of this trend are the Young Bucks. They consistently over-deliver for PWG, ROH, NJPW, and every independent promotion they work. Oh, and they won't hesitate to let you know that either. They're not for everyone and those looking for old-school storytelling will not find it, but if you want to see the team who is ushering in the new age of tag team wrestling, look no further than the Bucks. Honorable mentions to ReDragon, The Usos, T-Hawk and Eita, and Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata.

Darren Gutteridge's Thoughts: This one was simple. The Young Bucks cropped up a lot in 2014, both in ROH or New Japan, and I've yet to see them have a bad match. I can't even recall any mediocre matches off the top of my head. WWE may have passed on them before, but they would be crazy to not take a second look right now.

Haydn Gleed's Thoughts: I want to call out the 31 people who have so far voted for The Ascension in the Dot Net Award poll. I want to know what you see in this bad Road Warriors knock off that the rest of us don't see. Poll's aside, The Uso's have impressed me this year, and have gotten over huge with the crowd. Their act appeals to both kids and adults alike. The Wolves have been tremendous in TNA since their arrival, and put on great matches with Team 3D and The Hardy's as well as other. In the bleak year of 2014 for TNA, The Wolves have been a shining light and a reason to tune in. My tag team of the year pick however goes to The Young Bucks who have impressed me everytime I have had the opportunity to watch them wrestle, and continue to get better match after match.
