8/19 Zim's WWE NXT Coverage: Go-home show for Takeover Brooklyn including NXT Champion Finn Bálor and Kevin Owens, NXT Women's Champion Sasha Banks and Bayley, NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy, plus Samoa Joe and Tyler Breeze
2015-08-19 19:00:38

By Zack Zimmerman

WWE NXT
Aired August 19, 2015
Taped August 13 at Full Sail University

A video recapped last week's win by NXT Champion Finn Bálor over Marcus Louis, followed by the attack from Kevin Owens... A similar recap aired of Bayley's win over Becky Lynch and stare-down with NXT Women's Champions Sasha Banks... The opening video played...

In the arena, NXT GM William Regal made his way to the ring to a respectful ovation. Rich Brennan, Corey Graves, and Byron Saxton checked in on commentary. Regal was in the ring to preside over the contract signing for the NXT Women's Championship match at Takeover Brooklyn. He welcomed out Bayley, who stopped on her way to the ring to hug Izzy who had a "Hug Bayley Hug" sign. Regal next called out the NXT Women's Champion, Sasha Banks. Sasha was carrying her signature stamp and even stopped to stare Izzy down.

Regal gave Bayley the pen and had her sign first. Then, Bayley took the mic and thanked Regal and the fans, because without them she wouldn't be where she is. She said that this is the biggest match of her life and every time she's had her chance at the championship, it slipped through her fingers. She said not this time. Bayley said she can feel it, everyone in the crowd can feel it, and even Sasha can feel it.

Sasha mocked Bayley and then mocked the crowd by saying that Takeover is in Brooklyn and not at Full Sail. The crowd debated whether or not Sasha is ratchet. Sasha firmly believes she's not. Sasha said that Bayley is scared because she's facing the baddest in WWE. She said Bayley's not bad, but she's not Sasha. The vocal majority of the crowd chanted "Bayley's better" but there was a minority who countered with "No she's not!" Sasha vowed to cement her legacy as the greatest NXT Women's Champion in history and in Brooklyn, Bayley will find out why Sasha is The Boss.

Sasha stamped the contract and prepared to leave, but Bayley told her to hold on. Bayley said she's watched WWE, she knows how these contract signings go and she's not going to let Sasha just walk away. Sasha said that Charlotte and Becky were the real threats, now that they're gone, Bayley is all that's left. Sasha mocked the little girl dressed like Bayley and the fans chanted "Izzy!" Sasha said she's going to prove to little girls like that that fairytales don't have happy endings. Sasha said she doesn't have time to fight tonight because Bayley isn't worth it.

Sasha's music hit and she left the ring and backed up the ramp. Bayley looked conflicted in the ring, and finally decided that she'd reached her limit and charged up the ramp after Sasha. Bayley attacked Sasha and they brawled on the stage before referees separated the two. The crowd chanted for Bayley and she tried to break free, but the refs dragged her backstage to end the segment... [C]

Zim Says: Effective contract signing. Sasha is continuing to grow as a talker and this may have been her best work yet. Bayley is picking up steam and seems geared up for the win in Brooklyn.

An Apollo Crews vignette aired...

Back in the arena, Tyler Breeze made his entrance. In addition to his usual selfie stick, he was also carrying a Jushin Liger mask. His opponent was already in the ring.

1. Tyler Breeze vs. An enhancement wrestler. Breeze hit the Supermodel Kick and scored the pin.

Tyler Breeze won in about 0:30.

Breeze looked at the Liger mask and decided to put it on his fallen opponent. Breeze took a mic and pretended like the guy was Liger. He said he's not very impressed, however he's looking forward to Saturday. Then, he picked the guy up and hit the Beauty Shot before counting the three himself. Breeze took the mask back and then dropped it on the ramp on his way out...

The commentators transitioned to hyping the Takeover Brooklyn main event between Finn Bálor and Kevin Owens. Owens's "final declaration" wash hyped for later in the show... [C]

Zim Says: Boy, it's hard to build something when the guy is on the other side of the world. Still, I hope they air that little promo he cut from the NJPW dojo a week or two ago.

The Takeover Brooklyn theme song was plugged...

Back in the arena, The Hype Bros made their entrance. Graves said Mojo is what happens when cousins have babies. Enzo, Cass, and Carmella were out next. Enzo did the usual intro schtick along with the crowd. Enzo dropped a few lines about nobody wanting to mess with this team and Cassady closed with the S-A-W-F-T line. Their opponents were already in the ring.

2. Mojo Rawley, Zack Ryder, Enzo Amore, and Colin Cassady (w/ Carmella) vs. Jesse Sorensen, Aaron Solow, and two other enhancement wrestlers. Mojo and Ryder worked over Sorensen, with Ryder hitting a missile dropkick which unintentionally but awesomely landed in crossbody position. Enzo lost some momentum for his team but it all came back when Big Cass tagged in. He wiped everyone off the apron and hit a big sidewalk slam. Mojo and Ryder ran wild briefly before Cassady hit a big Black Hole Slam. Enzo came off the top with the Rocket Launcher for the babyface win.

Enzo Amore, Colin Cassady, Mojo Rawley, and Zack Ryder won.

The babyfaces celebrated in the ring... Backstage, the teams of Dash & Dawson and Gable & Jordan were not impressed with what they had just seen. They said the only thing that impressed them is that the guys could stand after taking The Shatter Machine. Jordan hyped the roll they've been on. Gable said they're going to light those guys up because they're ready, willing, and then he paused before everyone reluctantly said "Gable..."

Samoa Joe was hyped in action next... [C] Back in the arena, Samoa Joe made his entrance. HIs opponent was already in the ring.

3. Samoa Joe vs. Steve Cutler. Cutler went right after Joe but was quickly put down hard with the STJoe. Joe immediately went into the Coquina Clutch and Cutler tapped in a hurry.

Samoa Joe squashed Steve Cutler in about 0:30.

A graphic hyped Samoa Joe vs. Baron Corbin in Brooklyn. As Joe was leaving the arena, he was ambushed by Baron Corbin. Corbin tossed him down the steps on front of the announcers and eventually they brawled their way into the ring. Joe briefly fought back in the ring, but Corbin caught Joe charging and planted him with End of Days. Corbin circled Joe and stood tall over him... [C]

Zim Says: Nothing is going to make me more excited for Corbin vs. Joe, but that was fine. This show is really skippable thus far, as everything feels like an awkward bridge from last week to the special this Saturday.

A vignette aired with the "new and improved" Bull Dempsey who said he would return next week...

Back in the arena, the tag champs made their entrance. Their opponents were already in the ring.

4. NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy (w/ Alexa Bliss) vs. Angelo Dawkins and Sawyer Fulton. The crowd chanted "Come on Barbie, let's go party" at the super blonde Blake. Dawkins and Fulton used a double fireman's carry takeover on Blake and Graves said when they can find their missing piece, they're going to be a very dangerous team. Blake continued to take a beating, until Murphy ran in and ate a dropkick. Off that distraction, Blake took momentum and the champs went to work.

A short time later, Fulton took a hot tag and ran wild with some very impressive offense including a spinning delayed gut wrench suplex. Moments later however, Blake and Murphy hit the running suplex followed by the frog splash for the win.

Blake and Murphy over Dawkins and Fulton in about 3:40.

Post-match, The Vaudevillains music hit and they begged everyone's attention for one moment. Bliss slowly walked up the ramp and Gotch warned her not to abuse her "female privilege." She continued towards them as they continued to try and verbally fend her off. She reached them and slapped them both in the face. They were about to continue, but she slapped them again. They simply walked out and Bliss strutted back to her team in the ring with a look of satisfaction... [C]

Zim Says: I like that they're dragging out the reveal on The Vaudevillains's plan to combat Bliss, as it's nothing that's going to cause more people to tune in, but it'll be a fun thing for people who watch.

Carmella vs. Alexa Bliss was hyped for next week, and Graves noted that the show will also be emanating from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. They also hyped an 8-man tag between The Hype Bros, Enzo, and Cass vs. Jordan, Gable, Dawson, and Wilder. Finally, they hyped a Fatal Four-way match between Becky Lynch, Charlotte, Emma, and Dana Brooke...

Back in the arena, Kevin Owens made his entrance with a black and white striped ladder over his shoulder. Owens set the ladder up mid-ring and stared at it while pacing. Owens said that on Saturday night, the biggest NXT special ever will take place in Brooklyn, which inspired a "Brooklyn sucks" chant. Owens paused to point out how disgusting that is. He called the fans hypocrites for chanting for him unless he's doing something bad to Sami Zayn or being compared to John Cena.

He called Full Sail the John Cena of wrestling fans because nothing genuine ever comes out of their mouth. He said they claim they want NXT to succeed, but they boo when NXT sells out a 13,000 seat arena. Owens mocked them for crying about not being able to see it live. Owens said he feels sick to his stomach every time he has to come perform for the ungrateful and undeserving pieces of trash there. He said beating the flavor of the month will be more satisfying in front of 13,000 deserving fans.

Owens then addressed Bálor. He said Japan was a fluke. He said it shouldn't have happened and it wont happen again. Owens said that the Owens Bálor will face in Brooklyn is an Owens he's never faced before. He said what he did to Sami Zayn will look like nothing. He said he needs the NXT Championship to bring back to Full Sail and shove in the stupid fans faces. He said he needs it to prove he's better than Finn Bálor. He said in Brooklyn it will be "Destroy Owens Destroy" and "Climb Owens Climb." Owens climbed the ladder and continued. He promised it wouldn't be a neck-and-neck battle on the ladder in Brooklyn, it'll be Owens retrieving the NXT title while Bálor is being stretchered out.

Just then, the lights cut out and Bálor's music hit. When they came up, Bálor wasn't on the stage, but rather was perched on the top turnbuckle. He was glaring maniacally at Owens as the fans chanted his name. Owens slowly climbed off the ladder and the two met in the middle in the ring to begin brawling. Bálor hit the Pele kick and charged at Owens with the ladder, but Owens slipped out and backed up the ramp to safety.

Finn Bálor took the mic and said that at NXT Takeover BRooklyn, not only is he going to beat Kevin Owens to retain the championship, but he's going to kick Owens's ass and shut him up. Bálor stood atop the ladder and held the belt high as Owens looked on from the stage to close the show... A final hype package aired for Takeover Brooklyn this Saturday...

Zim Says: A fine angle I suppose, but this was the same thing as the whole show; unnecessary. Everything was an instantly forgettable squash match and the Brooklyn hype felt more like stalling for a week than it did bring things to a crescendo. That said, let's move on from this show and get to Brooklyn. Join me back here on Saturday night for live coverage of Takeover as it emanates from the Barclays Center.
