Bruno Sammartino died on Wednesday morning at age 82. The cause of death is unknown at this time, though he reportedly was hospitalized when he died. WWE.com has acknowledged his death.

Powell’s POV: Sammartino was known as the “Living Legend” and for good reason. He was the face of the World Wide Wrestling Federation when it was promoted by Vincent J. McMahon. Sammartino’s first of two WWWF Title reigns lasted over seven years and he was a tremendous draw for the company. He was also a great spokesman for professional wrestling and yet was never afraid to be critical of WWE when it was deserved. Sammartino accepted WWE’s invitation to be inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame in 2013. My condolences to Bruno’s friends, family, and countless fans.
