Catch Wrestling promoter and longtime wrestler Otto Wanz died of undisclosed causes at age 74, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com. Wanz had been battling an illness prior to his death.

Powell’s POV: My first glimpse of Wanz occurred on AWA television when he showed off his strength by tearing phonebooks in half. He eventually had a 41-day run with the AWA Championship. My condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

  1. Now we know that tearing phonebooks in half is not that hard though. MythBusters tested it out and showed that literally anyone can do it if you do it right, it has nothing to do with strength.

I never heard of him because the AWA died when I was 3 years old, but my condolences to his family.
