John Bradshaw Layfield announced on Friday that he will be vacating his role as a WWE Smackdown color commentator. “After much consideration, I will be stepping back my weekly role as Smackdown Announcer to dedicate more continuous time on the work I have done since 2010 with at risk kids and communities,” JBL wrote on Twitter. “My new schedule will allow me to continue to be a part of the WWE family and also continue my work that I feel is the most important thing in my life. I will continue my 20+ year relationship with WWE and will appear on such marquee shows as Tribute to the Troops, WrestleMania, amongst others.” Read his full statement at https://twitter.com/JCLayfield.

Powell’s POV: JBL added that WWE will continue to be a “partner in all my philanthropic works” and thus he is maintaining a relationship with the company per what he labeled a “new deal” with WWE. The company has yet to announce who will serve as his replacement on the Smackdown broadcast team.

  1. This is great news. 1 JBL down, 1 Booker to go and I can turn the volume back up.

  2. Best WWE news in years.

  3. JBL was the only good announcer Smackdown had left. Without JBL I will not want to watch that show any more.
