punk1The four-part documentary “The Evolution of Punk” begins tonight on FS1 at 8:30 CT/9:30 ET. The series focusses on CM Punk making the transition from pro wrestling to mixed martial arts leading up to his fight with Mickey Gall that will be held on September 10 at UFC 202.

Powell’s POV: Punk’s wife April Brooks, who wrestled as AJ Lee for WWE, will also be featured in the series. Filmmaker Rory Karpf is listed as the direct of the series. Karpf is a longtime pro wrestling fan and is also directing the forthcoming “30 For 30” documentary on Ric Flair, and also directed the excellent “I Hate Christian Laettner” documentary for ESPN. It doesn’t appear that there will be a number of replays for the series. The only rerun of this episode will be prior to the second installment that will air in the same slot next Monday.
