NXT Live Event
Plymouth, England
Report by Dot Net staffer Darren Gutteridge

1. Hugo Knox beat Wesley Blake. Knox won with a springboard moonsault. Fairly standard match but fans were receptive to Knox.

2. Alexander Wolfe beat Angelo Dawkins. Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton look like Mad Max rejects/Bulk and Skull from Power Rangers. No reaction for either man during their entrances. A fairly plain match. Fulton was rejected only to run down late in the match. With the ref distracted, Wolfe raked Dawkins eyes and got a roll up win.

3. Bayley and Carmella beat Alexa Bliss and Peyton Royce. Carmella and Bayley worked the crowd so well, and Bayley was over like nothing else. The good match ended with a rousing chant of “Stand up if you love Bayley” as Bayley hit a Belly to Bayley on Bliss.

4. Bobby Roode beat No Way Jose. Roode got a standing ovation for his entrance. Early fun with Jose and Roode dancing before Roode got mean. Jose got two good near falls before Roode won with an AA Spinebuster

Tye Dillinger came out to another standing ovation. He cut a promo where he said the UK had accepted them all, but then flipped it by saying he swore never to come back to this “3” of a country.

5. Andrade “Cien” Almas beat Tye Dillinger. As with their TV match this week, this started really slow and plodding but picked up eventually. Dillinger got a two count off of a superkick to a springboarding Andrage, before Andrage hit his double flip moonsault for the win.

Intermission. I was sat next to two gentleman who, instead of watching the wrestling, just talked non-stop loudly about anything else. They spent the entirety of Dillinger vs. Almas discussing “the best Tony Schiavone and Jesse Ventura moments”.

6. American Alpha beat The Revival by DQ in an NXT Tag Title match. This wasn’t up there with their recent TV matches, but their chemistry means they seemingly aren’t capable of anything less than “good”. After a few hot tags from Alpha, they seemed to have things won with Grand Amplitude on Dawson, but Dash pulled the ref out to cause the DQ.

7. Asuka beat Nia Jax to retain the NXT Women’s Title. This was basically a toned down version of their Takeover match, with an identical finish with Nia screaming at Asuka before taking a roundhouse to the head. The crowd seem tired now, so they only got up near the end.

8. Finn Bálor and Shinsuke Nakamura beat Samoa Joe and Austin Aries. The crowd exploded for Shinsuke and Joe. It felt like a house show main event, but the last five minutes were great. Aries took the loss following a Kinshasa and a Coup De Grace. Balor talked over the tour, and how everyone was tired this morning but got hyped by the show. Nakamura led a “Yea-Oh” shout before Balor closed with “We are NXT.”

Overall this was a solid house show from the NXT brand. The crowd was hot for most things, and I didn’t see an empty seat in the arena (though admittedly it is likely the smallest venue on the tour).
