10/31 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling
Oct 31, 2013 - 04:24 PM |
Welcome to the Dot Net One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).
WWE
Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): There are so many logical fallacies in the Big Show storyline, it is absurd. Sadly, fans keep cheering for him. I know many responses from large crowds are Pavlovian, but I like to think most wrestling fans are smarter than this. If any other television show told stories in this terribly constructed manner, no one would watch. WWE is lucky it's wrestling.
Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): John Cena is a Champion. Randy Orton is a champion. Big Show and Triple H closed Raw in what it seemed WWE wanted to be the climax of the show. What year is it again?
Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): If I accept the fact that Bryan's push is easing off (if not stopping completely), then a program with him and Punk taking on the Wyatts is the best possible next step. Outside of The Shield, these are the only acts I find genuinely engaging at present, so combining then is exciting, if detrimental to the overall product by keeping everything "good" concentrated in one program.
Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): $220. That's how much people have paid to watch Daniel Bryan fail to win the WWE Championship. Do you think it's possible some of those people might have buyer's remorse?
TNA
Will Pruett: The rumors of TNA being up for sale are a little frightening. What's more frightening is trying to come up with a reason someone would buy TNA. What are they? The brand name is a stupid pun promising nudity that's embarrassing to tell others about. The wrestling product has never been great. Why not just start a new company from the ashes?
Jake Barnett: With AJ Styles following in CM Punk’s footsteps and taking a spiritual pilgrimage outside the company, Hulk Hogan being gone, and Aces and Eights all but over with, it looks like TNA will hit the reset button once again. Will the 180th time be the charm? Call me a skeptic.
Chris Shore: TNA viewership has been down, as a rule, so what do they decide to do to boost ratings? A Halloween themed show! Hopefully we don’t get the obligatory food fight that always seems to accompany these terrible themed shows.
Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)
Will Pruett (WWE Financials): Today is WWE financial day, which means people who judge wrestling solely based on monetary statements can finally plug the SummerSlam numbers into their spreadsheets and figure out if they liked it or not!
Jake Barnett (Daniel Bryan): Finally, we get a serious tone from Daniel Bryan. Too bad it happened after he was removed from the title picture due to another screw job. If WWE plans on turning this into a Bryan vs. HBK match down the road, all will be forgiven, but if not this was a massive wasted opportunity to create a new superstar that the entire audience seemed to be behind.
Darren Gutteridge (NXT): While it may be a lean month on NXT with the super-over Sami Zayn and increasingly entertaining Bo Dallas not appearing, it creates a big opportunity for all others to get noticed. Essentially, everyone moves up a slot - Neville and Graves become the main event, and that means the Ascension, Breeze, Parker etc moves into their positions, and so on. If they work hard, they may stay elevated.
Chris Shore (Bellator): Bellator having to drop their big event down from PPV to SpikeTV because of Tito Ortiz's injury is a massive blow to the company. It's not something that destroys them completely, but it is a big black eye that will be difficult to recover from.
