TNA Impact Hitlist
Desmond Wolfe: Damn good debut for the former Nigel McGuinness. His very first segment in TNA showed him getting the best of Kurt Angle in heel fashion. Later in the show, he attacked Angle from behind, but he did so confidently. Wolfe will probably get Angle at the next pay-per-view and if that is the case, I cannot remember a better debut for a new star in TNA, or WWE for that matter (minus Chris Jericho in 1999).
Kurt Angle: I really liked the opening segment because Angle’s character never changed. He was a heel, but he was still the same guy. If I have said it once, I have said it a million times; I hate it when faces become heels and all of a sudden, everything changes about them. Angle is still the same guy and his character, especially with smart TNA fans, will always get cheered and appreciated, so a full babyface turn will be easily done.
Was that Tomko that attacked A.J. Styles? Styles is the TNA World Heavyweight Champion and Tomko has a lot of history with Styles. Heck, they were former Tag Team Champions together. Tell you what, Wolfe feuding with Angle and if Tomko gets any type of a program with Styles, the new guys are getting nice treatment coming in.
Homicide vs. Amazing Red: I really enjoyed this short match for a few reasons. First of all, Homicide getting the win showed that he is still relevant. Secondly, the match itself was very good, even though it was short. Finally, I feel good about the X Division right now.
Matt Morgan vs. Scott Steiner: Anytime someone has a career defining night, even more important is how it is followed up on. Morgan had a career night at Bound For Glory and I like that they gave him a high profile win immediately after. Frankly, a promo would have done just fine, but Morgan beating Steiner, who had a great night at BFG and said the Mafia was still together, was a nice follow up match and win for Morgan.
The Motor City Machine Guns vs. Lethal Consequences: Not a big fan of the Ultimate X match just days after Bound For Glory, and I didn’t think Lethal Consequences should have been in a number one contenders match. Beyond that, the match was very good. Lethal Consequences is a damn good tag team and I am sad they are not more over. The Guns are my favorite team in TNA, so I am thrilled they are getting a PPV title shot.
TNA Impact Misses
Where is Sting and where was the BFG aftermath?: Sting on this show, whether he made an announcement or not, would have been huge coming off of the biggest show of the year. Beyond that, there was not enough post Bound For Glory material to really make that show feel like the biggest show of the year.
Bobby Lashley: I was not a fan of Lashley when he was in WWE. I liked him when he first came to TNA because I was a fan of the MMA/wrestling hybrid character. However, Lashley is just not much of a dynamic personality. I do think TNA should play off of the boos and turn him heel. Lashley has the look and athleticism to be a very good, silent heel.
Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash vs. A.J. Styles and Daniels: The finish bothered me here. Kevin Nash scored the pinfall. It is going to be Styles vs. Daniels vs. Joe at the pay-per-view, hopefully recapturing the magic that produced some of the best TNA matches of all time. So, Nash gets the win? Styles getting the win would solidify his status. Joe and Daniels, who did not win at BFG, winning would go a long way in making them look strong for the PPV.
Awesome Kong vs. Raisha Saeed: Kiong and Saeed have been together for a very long time, one of the longest running tandems in recent memory, and they have one three minute squash match on free TV? Then the announcers said something about Saeed controlling Kong this entire time, which was not the case. I think they should have turned this into a feud.
Beer Money vs. The British Invasion: A disqualification in a cage match? A cheap one at that? This match should have been a high profile pay-per-view match and instead, we got this. Granted, everyone worked hard and the match itself, was just fine, but why book it? I think Beer Money and the Guns should be feuding over the belts for a long time, and they could separate the IWGP belts to be feuded over by two other teams.
