Welcome to the Wednesday One Shot. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): C.M. Punk and John Cena sold me on this Sunday's SummerSlam main event. The last few weeks have not been that great as far as match promotion with the silly tournament and interim championship, but all of that faded away on Monday. Cena and Punk managed to make their match look more like a clash of ideologies where fans pick what they want from wrestling. This has been fun to watch and Sunday will be no exception.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): CM Punk and John Cena continue to feud over their vision of the Pro Wrestling business. WWE has found a way to successfully pit the two factions of their audience against one another, and I have to commend them for that. If your biggest draw is a polarizing figure, it makes sense to find a guy that represents the other half to send after him, and they have found somebody engaging and exciting in CM Punk to take the job. There is a lot left that they can draw out of this story, so I hope Summerslam is a change of direction instead of a finish to this story.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester): WWE managed to do something I thought impossible. They made the C.M. Punk/John Cena match at SummerSlam every bit as important as their match at Money in the Bank. Best of all, they accomplished this task by letting two of their top guys talk about what the WWE Championship means to them and how much they want to walk out of the PPV with it around their waist.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): WWE has done a good job of selling SummerSlam, to be sure. But what they haven't done is a good job of booking the undercard. There's some shifting going on in creative, and that always means so weird and sudden changes in stories. But there's no reason to believe that we will only get four matches on the PPV, so why not announce the rest? The show should still be good, but I would like to know all the matches, or at least most of the matches, before going in so I have a reason to care from the moment the show starts till it ends.

TNA

Will Pruett: Hardcore Justice was one of the worst pay-per-views in this company's history. It is not because everything was awful, but simply because between the opening match and the main event, nothing happened. The show lost all momentum and the crowd was basically dead. This can be blamed on the Impact Wrestling Zone crowd being overexposed, but I believe it has more to do with the quality of the product they are constantly presented with.

Jake Barnett: TNA had a PPV on Sunday, and I have a hard time believing that I paid for it. There isn't much left to say except that TNA needs to fire everyone involved in the creative end of their product. Their roster is great, but their creative department is the drizzling shits. There is too much left on the table on a week to week basis for this writer to understand how their employment is maintained. Whoever green lighted that Mr. Anderson promo needs to be beaten with a sack of doorknobs.

Ryan Kester: The more things change, the more they stay the same. Although I am excited to see a wrestler other than Sting holding the belt, the change came on the heels of another ref bump and interference from Hulk Hogan. It's tough to get excited about the good things this company does when it's mired in the same mistakes they repeatedly make.

Chris Shore: The singles match main event at Hardcore Justice had a combined age of 94. The triple threat opener had a combined age of 93. And from reading the spoilers, it looks like TNA is finally going to host the Geritol Cup. Those who refuse to learn from the mistakes of the past are destined to repeat them. TNA should just change their name to Thunder and get it over with.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (ROH): The loss of the Kings of Wrestling will definitely hurt ROH, as they were the cornerstone of the ROH tag division for the last few years. However, throughout their existence ROH has proven that getting over big losses is something they are more than capable of. Going into their first TV tapings, I hope that ROH has their eyes on Cole and O'Reilly as their next big tag team stars.

Jake Barnett (Strikeforce): I enjoyed watching the legendary Dan Henderson knock out the surpemely overrated Fedor Emilianenko. Since losing to Jake Shields in a fight where he had a back injury, Dan Henderson has come back looking as strong as ever. I just hope the Zuffa acquisition of Strikeforce doesn't derail any future title defenses for him.

Ryan Kester (ROH): I'm excited to hear that Jay lethal has signed a contract with ROH. I think he was absolutely underutilized with his TNA run and I can't wait to see what he can do in an ROH ring. Hopefully, he won't recycle a gimmick of a wrestling legend and will stand on his own with a fresh, new character.

Chris Shore (CHIKARA): Word on the street is that CHIKARA will be putting their first live iPPV on Go Fight Live in the near future. I will be interested to see how it works for CHIKARA, as I think their act is best suited live. I have seen many CHIKARA matches on tape, and they just don't match the energy that they had when I saw them live for the first time this year when they came to North Carolina. As I've said many times, The Throwbacks vs. Los Ice Cream was my favorite match of the year so far, but I don't know if I could say that if I had seen it on TV. If CHIKARA can find a way to get that energy across on iPPV, it could be a huge lift for a promotion I find to be very, very entertaining.
