Shore's Weekend Promo: Night of Champions is a pre-show bust, lots of hope for the future of in-ring skills, the misuse of Trish Stratus, and Kevin Steen makes a huge impact

In the spirit of my beloved WCW Saturday Night, welcome to the Shore Weekend Promo. Every week I will mention, the good, the bad, the ugly, and whatever else I want to talk about across all of wrestling.
Opening Series (My overall thoughts on the week): What a week I had. With Jason taking this past Monday off to watch football, and the two PPVs this weekend, I had wrestling every day this week except Thursday. And that day I had to deal with the DMV. Of course I did yeoman's work on Wednesday, chasing Matt Hardy across the state and breaking a story that would be stolen and unattributed all over the Interwebs. Needless to say my wife and children are doing their best to stay out of their way. (Actually they made it worse by getting a bunny behind my back, but that's a topic for another article.)
With that kind of week, I assumed my general malaise at watching Night of Champions was just a symptom of being burned out on wrestling and the end of a tough personal week as well. But the more I think about it, the more I disagree with that assessment. The truth it, WWE did not sell me on this PPV. We are often critical of the poor effort put into selling a show, especially recently. But they didn't hook me at all for this show.
I will still be fair with the show. Part of being a professional writer is understanding how to put your personal feelings aside. And I am a professional, contrary to what some on Twitter may tell you. But I have no personal desire as a fan to see this show. That may be the first time since I started this gig that the fan in me is saying, "Meh, I don't really care." Surely I'm not the only one.
Pops (The best of the week):
-Kevin Steen's surprise appearance at Death Before Dishonor continues to impress me the more I think about it. I don't know which story came first, Steen's or CM Punk's, but Steen's story is the better of the two. Granted, ROH doesn't have to worry about weekly ratings and can afford to take more of a "long tail" approach to booking. But that doesn't mean that WWE can't do any booking based on long term ideas. For now, Punk's story has fallen flat, while Steen's story is just beginning to shine brightly.
-I saw a lot of good wrestlers this week who don't get the credit they deserve, workers like AJ, Mike Elgin, and Mike Bennett. In Bennett's case, the fans even go so far as to hate him for it. When you count in all the young workers who do get credit (Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes, Eddie Edwards, the All Night Express) it's obvious that the future of wrestling is set for in-ring skills. Now if we can just get guys over…
Heat (The worst of the week):
-Even amongst all my burn out, only one thing really aggravated me this week. And that was the use of Trish Stratus in the weird massage thing with Teddy Long and Aksana. I realize they may have been doing a callback, but that's not good enough. This was a stupid joke that played on a fetish most people would call strange and I would certainly call inappropriate. And I'm willing to believe Trish didn't see it as no big deal, but that's not the point either.
Trish is one of the greats in women's wrestling. She wasn't always, and she benefited greatly from having great opponents during her run. No matter how much fun you are trying to have, if you want people to take a Divas division seriously, then you have to treat the Legend Divas the same way you treat the men's Legends. Oh wait, they did treat her like they do most of the men's Legends. Huh. Maybe this should have been a pop.
