In the spirit of my beloved WCW Saturday Night, welcome to the Shore Weekend Promo. Every week I will mention, the good, the bad, the ugly, and whatever else I want to talk about across all of wrestling.
Opening Series(My overall thoughts on the week):
Ten years ago today, my wife and I were waking up to our first real vacation as a family. My only child (at that time) was two, and we were at Myrtle Beach after having to stay in town on Monday for some reason. I was looking forward to a week filled with rest and relaxation. What I got was anything but.
Ten years makes a big difference. Now I have four kids, the oldest is 14 and a half, has her first boyfriend, and is about to start drivers ed. The world has moved on from that day, like it has moved on from every day, extraordinary and mundane alike. And all we can do is remember.
Yet remember we must. Freedom is not free. I know it is a cliché, but it is a cliché for a reason. Thousands lost their lives that day, and thousands more have since ensuring we have the freedom to sit around and critique the crazy world of professional wrestling. I wasn't going to do a normal promo this week, I didn't think it was appropriate at first. Now I realize not doing the normal promo is what is inappropriate. For all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, let's get do this.
Pops(The best of the week):
-I feel like every time I sit down to write something good about wrestling, the first person that jumps in my head is Mark Henry. Henry has been the standard bearer on Smackdwon for some time now, and he just continues to impress each and every week. I want Mark Henry as champion. I don't know if he would flourish in that role like he has this one, but I sure would like to find out.
-I also just received my sixth 5-star review on my new book The Following Contest is a Dark Match. I hope it is as good as people are saying. It is only 99 cents, and available exclusively on ebook for all ereaders, smartphones, tablets and PCs. You can read more on the book at The Following Contest.com and can buy the book at Smashwords.
Heat(The worst of the week):
-A lot of things wrong this week, by I reserve this space for WWE stories, and specifically the Kevin Nash/Triple H/CM Punk story. I missed Raw on Monday and had to watch on Tuesday, but not before I heard about “Nash texting himself.” I was hoping that someone was messing with me. Turns out they were not.
I could go on and on here about how stupid that was, and it would deserve it. But this story is not the problem, it is just a symptom of the real problem. For reasons I will never understand, WWE thinks of itself as a TV/theater company, and yet they don't write like a TV or theater company. How many people think that TV shows are writing the next episode the morning of the film date? Sure, they may make changes, but the script is already there.
WWE has no sense of the future. I'm sure they think they do, but it's not showing on TV, or anywhere else for that matter. WWE may take a small hit in the ratings to do so, but they need to stop all this hotshotting and last minute writing s and make a plan. Whether it's four month arcs or something else, they mist have a plan. The wheels are coming off for WWE. They are too big to be beaten by a competitor, but they will never be to big to collapse under their own poor decisions. There's no risk of that now, but they are on the road.
Tweet This(Best Tweets from "The Boys"):
-CM Punk: So wait. The divas are mad about an in house article on wwe.com that is potentially designed to garner them attention/TV time? Awesome.
-Steve Corino: Shitburger. Rode 13 miles on the bike to the gym but there is no electric! Need to lift and tan for Japan this week. Almost there!
-Shelton Benjamin: [At JBL] did you get hurricane insurance at the hair club for men? Hate to see all those plugs lost in the storm
Obligatory Iron Sheik tweet: i watch the WWE Raw, I look like I can still beat the f--- out of the Kevin Nash. I also impress by the Del Rio and the Punk
