Shore's Weekend Promo: Money in the Bank, CM Punk, John Cena, Sting, Chavo Guerrero, the Iron Sheik nails it, and more WWWYKI Jul 17, 2011 - 12:03 PM
In the spirit of my beloved WCW Saturday Night, welcome to the Shore Weekend Promo. Every week I will mention, the good, the bad, the ugly, and whatever else I want to talk about across all of wrestling.
Opening Series(My overall thoughts on the week): WWE presents Money in the Bank today, but they are really being presented with an opportunity to breathe new life into the promotion. We have been complaining for some time about how weak the product is right now. But C.M. Punk has changed all that in a major way. This is the first non-Wrestlemania PPV I have been excited for in a long, long time. I feel like just a fan again, waiting for this show to start so I can see what happens. Vince and company certainly deserve praise for rekindling that feeling in many of us. Let's just hope we can continue to praise them after tonight.
Pops(The best of the week):
-Speaking of C.M. Punk, if you haven't read his GQ interview you owe it to yourself to read the whole thing. After many years of watching as a fan, and now almost three years as a reporter, I find I can usually tell whether a wrestler is shooting straight or not. But I have to admit, I have no idea what he is doing here. I can't imagine this interview is all shoot, and yet my brain recoils at the idea that it is all a work. In the interview, Punk says, "I'm not doing my job if people are like, 'What you do is fake.' And literally people on the street are confused, generally, for the first time." Never thought I would be so happy about being confused.
-The announcement from TNA that Austin Aries would not be the only signing for the X-Division, coupled with Bruce Pritchard's statement that the X-Division was being revamped, was welcome new following a good Destination X PPV. I have said for months and months that the first group to really do something different could separate itself from the pack. TNA has had the X-Division sitting idle for some time, and it certainly qualifies as different. Let's hope this isn't just another round lip service to the X-Division and that it really is getting on back on track.
-ROH announced the first main event of their Chicago TV tapings for the new Sinclair broadcast show, and it will feature the Kings of Wrestling. The Kings have been the subject of wild speculation and rumor concerning where they will ultimately wind up, ROH or WWE. ROH is doing the right thing by featuring them prominently in the first tapings because if they do not jump to WWE, Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero will be integral parts to the core ROH roster.
Heat(The worst of the week):
-Chavo Guerrero took to the Twitter this weekend to accost John Cena after Cena made the apparent mistake of hyping his own match. Chavo ripped into Cena for his lazy style in the ring. Chavo made several good points; especially how no one believes the series we affectionately refer to as the "five moves of doom." But I take real issue with the delivery of these points. Chavo knows John Cena. When he picked up his phone, he should have dialed Cena's number instead of launching a tirade on Twitter. Instead, his message got lost in the delivery, and Chavo walks away looking like a disgruntled chump. What he said needed to be said, to be sure. But more than that, it needs to be absorbed by Cena. And I don't blame him one but for rolling his eyes and walking away.
-It has been well documented that I am the old WCW/NWA/JCP guy around here, and so to say I have a fondness for Sting is like asking what happens when you don't eat for three days. No shit! But at 52, Sting should not be the TNA champion. And what's more, he shouldn't be headed to an altercation with 57 year old Hulk Hogan. They couldn't get this right 14 years ago with a better booker, what makes them think they can get it right with bad backs, hips, and the worst writer in history? There is a place for guys like Sting, and perhaps Hogan (personal bias there). But contending for the top tile of any organization isn't it.
Tweet This(Best Tweets from "The Boys"):
-Shelton Benjamin: "Fact: [JBL] never farts because he never close his mouth long enough to let the pressure build up."
Steve Corino: "What does CM stand for? I think it's Cool Mustache"
"Manscout" Jake Manning: "How can 30,000 people watch Matt Hardy get a haircut but only 500 of you have seen a vid from someone whose name was chanted on Raw"
-Obligatory Iron Sheik Tweet: "The Casey Anthony is worse whore mother in world. I f--- her ass make her humble"

Go Home(The Big Finish, Whatever I Want):
Twenty-two episodes in and Zack Ryder doesn't stop being funny. This guy needs to be on TV, and hopefully we saw the beginning of that on Raw. Check out the latest Z True Long Island Story on YouTube and make sure you let WWE know you want to see Ryder on your TV. Assuming you do of course. If you don't, well then you lose your fan card, bro.
