In the spirit of my beloved WCW Saturday Night, welcome to the Shore Weekend Promo. Every week I will mention, the good, the bad, the ugly, and whatever else I want to talk about across all of wrestling.

Opening Series (My overall thoughts on the week): Well this was one interesting week in the land of wrestling television. ROH finished its run on HDNet, as did WWE Superstars on WGN America (as reported here first). Then there was the debut of Tough Enough to ensure I will still be working every Monday night for the foreseeable future. Oh yeah, and the WreastleMania 28 main event was also booked. Like I said, an interesting week. So let's get into it.

Pops (The best of the week):

-If you didn't get a chance to see the final ROH on HDNet, I certainly recommend going out of your way to do so. I would encourage you to download it, but that would be illegal and we don't do that sort of thing around here. But do find a way to see it. Dave Lagana at IWantWrestling.com is the producer for ROH, and told me this was their "best foot forward" as they try to secure another TV deal. I think they did a fantastic job on that show, and if I were him or Cary Silkin, I would feel good about what I had to offer a channel in the way of a show.

-In that same vein, I also highly recommend checking out Tough Enough if you have not done so, though based on the ratings I can't imagine who has not seen this yet. And if you have friends or family that don't like your wrestling but do like reality TV, convince them to watch with you. The show is very well done, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is beyond what I expected in his role as host. The previews for the coming episodes look to be even better as WWE wrest…er, Superstars make guest appearances. Who knows, maybe the wrestling/reality combo can work to bring family and friends together.

-I have to take a moment and thank the Smackdown writers for actually giving a damn about at least one title. Alberto Del Rio's "destiny" story got derailed the closer WrestleMania 27 came, and without any evidence whatsoever I place that blame on Vince. Now that his baby is done for the year (and he's working on the next one) we are seeing some emphasis put back on the title being the big deal that it should be.

Heat (The worst of the week):

-On the flip side, I have to bitch about the continued destruction of the Tag Team and Intercontinental champions in the form of the Corre. I'm not really all that upset about the titles because I gave up on WWE taking them seriously a long time ago. But the way they are using Corre is terrible. Last year, Wade Barrett was the hottest heel in the industry. After getting buried—literally—by John Cena, and then figuratively by Big Show and company in recent weeks, they have lost all of their heat. And that's not even counting the "Anything you can do I can do better" segment they were in with Rock and Cena on Monday. I know they can be rebuilt, but it won't feel the same after this.

-And speaking of Rock and Cena, I don't really like the idea of booking the WrestleMania main event so far in advance. Besides the obvious problems of injury concerns and whatnot, I think the biggest error is that there is now nothing special to kick-off the hype for WrestleMania 28. Sure, it will still do great buys because of the match, but the run up is going to lose a lot of juice, even with the Rock coming back to hype it. You only get one chance to make a major announcement, and I think WWE did it in the smallest possible way.

-But my biggest heat this week is with Vince McMahon's decision to ban the word "wrestle" and all its derivatives from his shows. I don't mind WWE losing its acronym status, they can call the company "Big Sweaty Guys Slamming Into Each Other While Kids Scream" for all I care. But the idea of banning that word is stupid. What in the blue hell are they doing in the ring if it isn't wrestling? Sure, they are entertaining, but they are entertaining by wrestling!

The concept was shown in its stupidity Friday night when Michael Cole was asked why he wasn't in his singlet. His response was, "Because I'm not wre…uh, I'm entertaining from the Cole mine tonight." (Or something to that effect.) Jokes aside about Cole not entertaining either, what the hell was he supposed to say? We often compare WWE to the Icecapades. And while no one thinks that the Icecapades are a legit competition, they understand that it is still ice-skating and call it that. This irrational need to scrub the word doesn't change the fact that WWE is, and as best I can tell, will always remain, wrestling.

Go Home (The Big Finish, Whatever I Want):

Normally I tried to end on something upbeat and fun, but I really need to address this again. Scott Hall was at an independent wrestling event this weekend in Massachusetts and looked terrible. He did not attend the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony because he was "in no shape to attend." Hall has battled physical problems for some time now in addition to his well-documented substance abuse problems.

This video shows a Scott Hall that is in no condition to be in public, let alone participate in a wrestling event. I realize he was advertised and wanted to go on, but the promoters should have sucked it up and told him no. I don't know if he was inebriated or just sick (reports say he was hospitalized following the event), but it doesn't matter. Scott Hall looked ready to die at any moment. The people around him must do a better job of protecting him when he is unable to protect himself.
