UFC News: UFC celebrating a milestone birthday

UFC is 20 years old today. The first UFC event was held on November 12, 1993 in Denver, Colorado at McNichols Sports Arena. The event featured an eight-man tournament and one alternate bout. Royce Gracie defeated Art Jimmerson, Ken Shamrock, and Gerard Gordeau (finals) to win the tournament.

Powell's POV: Yes, three fights in one night for Gracie. It's amazing to think of how far UFC and MMA has come in the last 20 years. I still remember blowing off the first couple of UFC shows because I assumed it was some type of staged combat despite advertising that suggested otherwise. I guess it was the pro wrestling fan skeptic in me. I've become a fan of the sport over the years and I am looking forward to watching Saturday's UFC 167 on Saturday featuring Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks.
