11/8 WWE Smackdown in Newcastle: First time WWE event attendee reviews Jack Swagger vs. Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler vs. Kaval vs. MVP for the Intercontinental Title, Finlay vs. Tyler Reks
Nov 9, 2010 - 09:45 AM

WWE Live Event
Newcastle, U.K.
Report by Dot Net reader "MizFit" Blair Hazel

Before the event they where selling merchandise, but unfortunately then had no Miz t-shirts. The arena was about 80 percent full and there was a lot of John Cena merchandise and Rey Mysterio masks. Tony Chimel handled the ring announcements.

1. Finlay defeated Tyler Reks. Reks was working the crowd before the match and generating some heat. During the match, Hornswaggle came into the ring with three tennis balls and started juggling. He threw the balls at Reks for a pop. Finlay got the pin when Reks tried to use the shillelagh, but the referee stopped him then Finlay hit Reks with another shillelagh.

2. Mason Ryan defeated Chavo Guerrero. Mason Ryan came out to zero reaction but the crowd soon got behind him. There was an awkward spot when Ryan threw Chavo in the air and it looked like he landed on his face. Ryan got the pin after a move similar to the Black Hole Slam.

3. Drew McIntyre defeated Chris Masters. Drew cut a promo before the match about how he hates Newcastle and was working the crowd well throughout the match. He got a lot of heat. McIntyre got the pin after the Future Shock DDT. Good match overall with Masters looking good in defeat.

4. Dolph Ziggler defeated Kaval and MVP in a Triple Threat to retain the Intercontinental Championship. MVP came out to a good pop and Kaval received hardly any reaction at all. Ziggler won after MVP had hit the Play of the Day on Kaval and threw MVP out of the ring to steal the win. Kaval was very impressive.

5. Edge and Rey Mysterio defeated Alberto Del Rio and Cody Rhodes. Edge came out to a massive pop and so did Mysterio, Del Rio got a lot of heat. Before the match, the heels were working the crowd and Cody got on the mic to demand a fan with a sign to get ejected. This drew good heat. Edge picked up the win on Cody after Mysterio had hit the 619 followed by a spear. This was a good match.

6. Kelly Kelly defeated Layla. Kelly Kelly came out to a good pop. Layla came out with an exercise ball and started to play with it in the ring. This was drawing a lot of heat before Kelly Kelly threw the ball at Layla, which received a good pop. Kelly Kelly won after a school boy roll up.

Hornswoggle came out after the match and picked Layla up on his shoulders and spun her around. I think i was the only person in the whole arena who was cheering for Layla. I was surprised she was at the show as the Raw taping was being held at the same time.

7. Kofi Kingston defeated Jack Swagger (w/Swagger Soaring Eagle). Swagger came out to a lot of heat and Kofi to a good pop. This was an excellent match with both superstars hitting their signature moves. There was a good spot when Kofi was about to hit his finisher, but the Eagle tripped Kofi, causing Swagger to take control of the match.

Kofi hit a good suicide dive out of the ring onto Swagger. He also hit the boom drop onto Swagger, who was in between the ropes in the corner (this was a cool spot). The crowd was really into this match and my group of friends started a lot of "Lets go Swagger" chants. This was match of the night without a doubt. After the match, Swagger got on the mic but was interrupted by The Big Show. Swagger and the Eagle tried to beat up Show, but Swagger ended up getting the Show Stopper.

8. Big Show defeated Kane via DQ in a match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Show came out to a nice little pop. This match started slow and the crowd wasn't really into it. I think everybody had tired themselves out during the Swagger vs. Kofi match. Big Show hit the Show Stopper for a close fall. Kane tried to hit Show with the belt, but missed and Show pushed Kane into the ref causing him to fall down.

Show hit the Knock out punch, but the ref was down so he couldn't get the pin. Swagger ran out followed by Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio, Chavo and Drew McIntyre. The heels then started to beat up Show. Smackdown babyfaces Edge, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, Chris Masters and MVP made the save. They brawled in the ring for a while before the faces cleared the ring. The heels went to run back in but stopped and just Chavo ran in. The faces then surrounded the ring and they all hit their finishers on Chavo to send the crowd home happy. Show and Edge thanked the fans for coming.

Noes: Overall, I thought this was a brilliant house show. This is the first show I attended and I would definitely recommend it to everybody, as its a totally different experience than watching it on TV. Swagger vs Kofi was match of the night and the ending to the main event was well done.
