2/19 Kester's WWE Main Event Live Coverage Review: The Shield vs. Sin Cara and Los Matadores, Aksana vs. Cameron, and Kofi Kingston vs. Curtis Axe
Feb 19, 2014 - 07:00 PM

By Ryan Kester

Main Event on Ion Television
Taped earlier in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

[Q1] 1. The Shield vs. Sin Cara and Los Matadores. The babyfaces went on an early advantage with quick tags and fast offense to keep The Shield off balance. Reigns got the tag into the match, to the crowd's delight, and he tore into one of the Matadores.

The Shield settled into control and worked over Fernando of the Matadores. Sin Cara tagged in and got some momentum behind him, but The Shield quickly reestablished control... [C]

Back from the break, Sin Cara got a hope spot for the tag, but Rollins cut him off. The Shield went back to working quick tags and getting moments to show off their individual offense.

[Q2] Sin Cara hit a nasty-looking tornado DDT on Reigns and got the hot tag off to Diego. Diego ran through his moveset and the match broke down. El Torito hit a senton on Rollins in front of the referee, but the ref ignored the interference.

Reigns hit a double spear on Sin Cara and Fernando, and Rollins hit Diego with his curb stomp finisher for the 1-2-3…

The Shield defeated Sin Cara and Los Matadores in 11:56 of TV time.

Ryan's Reaction: Impressive pace down the stretch. The Shield got a chance to show off their whole arsenal tonight, and the babyfaces did a great job of selling the assaults.

A lengthy video package chronicling Cameron's participation in Total Divas aired…

[Q3] 2. Cameron vs. Aksana (w/ Alicia Fox). Aksana attacked Cameron early and went after Cameron's face with knee drops. Aksana continued to control the majority of the match.

Cameron rolled Aksana up and got the anticlimactic pinfall… [C]

Cameron defeated Aksana in 3:09

Ryan's Reaction: What a mess. Clunky and awkward, WWE put two of its greenest women together and the result was hard to watch. Luckily, it came and went quickly.

The announcers set up a hype video for the Elimination Chamber…

Michael Cole and Triple H discussed the Elimination Chamber participants' and their chances of winning the match…

Wade Barrett ascended and told the live crowd that he had some bad news. His bad news was that America would have the lowest medal haul since 1988...

[Q4] [C] 3. Kofi Kingston vs. Curtis Axel (w/Ryback). Kingston went on a flurry of offense early and set up for Trouble in Paradise, but Axel wisely rolled out of the ring. Ryback began to enter the ring, but Mark henry's music played and he came down to the ring to give Kingston some backup… [C]

Back from the break, Kingston continued to dominate Axel. Axel managed to get in some offense after a shot to the back of Kingston's head, but Kingston quickly regained the upper hand.

Ryback had enough and started to attack Kingston, forcing the disqualification.

Kofi Kingston defeated Curtis Axe; via DQ in 7:21 of TV time.

Henry cleared the ring and Kingston hit Rybaxel with a dive. Kingston and Henry celebrated to close the show.

Ryan's Reaction: Not a bad match, but not a great one either. There's something about Axel that makes me unable to take him seriously in a match. Much like last week, this Main Event was a complete dud unless you happen to be enamored with The Shield and want to see their entire moveset.
