11/7 Twilling's West Coast WWE Smackdown Coverage: The Undertaker vs. Vladimir Kozlov, Shelton Benjamin defends the United States Championship against R-Truth
Nov 7, 2008 - 11:00 PM |
WWE Friday Night Smackdown on My Network TV
Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] The opening video aired and fireworks lit up the stage. Jim Ross and Tazz welcomed us to the show. They plugged tonight’s main event of The Undertaker vs. Vladimir Kozlov and a United States Championship match between Shelton Benjamin and R-Truth...
MVP was in the ring hosting the latest edition of the VIP Lounge. He talked about his losing streak and how he needed to win a certain amount of matches to avoid having a “regular talent contract,” which was still more money than any of us make.
The Great Khali and Ranjin Singh came out to the ring. Singh told MVP they were going to have the Kiss Cam whether MVP liked it or not. MVP left the ring but stuck around. Singh brought two larger women into the ring. The first one looked like a man because of her profound mustache.
Khali pecked the mustache and almost puked. The second lady had fake teeth. He quickly gave her the thrill of her life too. Singh suggested they have a three way kiss. I guess when Singh has an idea, he should keep his mouth shut. Khali kissed both of them repeatedly.
MVP attacked Khali from behind before taking off up the ramp. Khali went from fun loving to series as he stared down MVP. In case you missed it, they showed a replay of the kisses...
Twill’s Two Cents: Khali deserves another title run after having to do that.
[Q2] Backstage, MVP approached Vickie Guerrero and complained about Khali messing up his show. Vickie called Khali a ratings draw while MVP keeps losing matches. MVP said he wanted a match and Vickie booked Khali vs. MVP for later in the show... [C]
1. Shelton Benjamin defeated R-Truth to retain the United States Championship in 4:05. Truth came out utilizing his quickness but Shelton took the advantage after hitting a gut buster. Truth scored a nearfall after two closelines and a jumping thrust kick. Truth hit a somersault plancha onto Benjamin on the floor.
He threw Benjamin back into the ring and hit a missile dropkick for a long two count. With Truth favoring his ribs, Shelton suplexed him across the top rope. He followed up with Paydirt for the win...
Twill’s Two Cents: Decent four minute match but the first match between these two at Cyber Sunday put a big wrench into what was a good feud. Not sure how they move forward from here.
Jimmy Wang Yang was stretching backstage when he was approached by The Brian Kendrick and Ezekiel Jackson. Kendrick spewed out something about being The Lord and Jackson informed us the line came from Pulp Fiction... [C]
[Q3] 2. Ezekiel Jackson (with The Brian Kendrick) defeated Jimmy Wang Yang in 1:04. Hurricane Helms popped up and said Michael Phelps called. He wanted his tights back from Jackson. Jackson squashed Yang quickly...
After the match, Kendrick celebrated before hitting The Kendrick. Kendrick danced around like he was well, you know...
Twill’s Two Cents: Not much to say here. It was what it was.
A video aired promoting the undefeated streak of Vladimir Kozlov and well as his fabulous English speaking skills. The video pretty much focused on Kozlov kicking the crap out of Triple H...
Tazz plugged Kozlov vs. The Undertaker for later in the show. Triple H and Jeff Hardy are teaming against The Miz and John Morrison... [C]
Michelle McCool was approached by Eve Torres backstage. Eve told her it has been a year since she became the most overpaid person on the roster and she wanted to become a wrestler. Well, give her credit for wanting to earn her money. Maria came up, Eve took off, and Maria joked to Michelle she was going to take her title...
The Raw Rebound aired focusing on the very good steel cage match between Batista and Chris Jericho. The only problem with it was that Michael Cole and not Jim Ross called the match. The focus shifted to Jericho vs. John Cena at the Survivor Series...
[Q4] Jeff Hardy was backstage pleading with Vickie Guerrero to give him another shot at Triple H’s WWE Championship. Vickie told Jeff he was not WWE Championship material and that he was not even extreme anymore. Jeff said he was going to blow Vickie’s mind... [C]
Did you know? WWE video games have sold over 39 million copies this decade. Tazz gave verbal fellatio to the company by saying they pulled higher ratings than some horrible college football game on ESPN 2. JR did his best to put over the new Smackdown vs. Raw video game...
Triple H made his entrance and JR said, “Now it’s time to play the real game.” Cute. Smackdown vs. Raw is sponsoring the Survivor Series. Isn’t that just moving money from one vault to the other one?...
3. The Miz and John Morrison defeated Triple H and Jeff Hardy by disqualification in 10:27. Morrison bedazzled his abs even more than normal. Sad that I noticed that. Morrison did a Rick Rude like gyration at Triple H who simply laughed it off. Hardy hit a somersault plancha on both of his opponents. With Miz and Morrison recuperating on the floor, the show went to commercial... [C]
[Q5] Morrison distracted Hardy, which allowed Miz to work on the ribs and lower lumbar region of Hardy. They continued the onslaught with double team moves. Hardy made a comeback and hit the Whisper in the Wind on Miz for a two count. Miz and Morrison double teamed Hardy. Triple H entered illegally and was thrown out of the ring by the referee.
Hardy cleared the ring with a chair and the referee called for the bell. Just in case you didn’t know Triple H was the biggest star on the show, he gave Miz a Pedigree for good measure after the match. Hardy left with a disgusted look on his face as Triple H celebrated in the ring...
Twill’s Two Cents: Well, at least they seem to have a storyline in place for Hardy as opposed to just have him continuously losing matches. By the way, The Twilling is reporting from a new location tonight. I am using The Meghan’s computer and honestly, I’m still getting used to it. No where else I would rather be though. For those of you that have asked, yes, I am still working on getting her on a future episode of DNW.
Eve, still performing her previous job, interviewed Vladimir Kozlov backstage. He said something about Triple H and crushing The Undertaker. He made about as much sense as Scott Steiner... [C]
Jeff Hardy asked Vickie if what he just did was extreme enough for her. Vickie said she had a deal with Vladimir Kozlov and the story of Jeff’s life was getting close but never quite getting the job done...
The Big Show came out to the stage and cut a promo on The Undertaker. It is basically the same “opponent of The Undertaker” promo we have heard for years. “I’m not afraid of you; I am different, etc.” Show challenged Taker to a casket match at Survivor Series. Show suggested Taker learn how to hold his breath... [C]
[Q6] 4. The Great Khali (with Ranjin Singh) defeated MVP in 2:23. MVP tried to work on Khali’s legs but was quickly squashed. Hurricane Helms popped up again and said MVP was “that close.”... [C]
Twill’s Two Cents: MVP has nowhere to go but up. Wait a minute here; MVP has to pay back his signing bonus if he doesn’t win another match? Who in the hell negotiated that contract? He needs a new agent, stat.
[Q7] 5. Brie Bella defeated Victoria (with Natalya) in 2:27. Victoria scored a nearfall and tried a standing moonsault. Brie put her knees up. She followed up with a monkey flip. Brie won the match with a small package...
After the match, Brie went under the ring and in a funny spot, Victoria had one head and Natalya had one set of legs on opposite sides of the ring. Brie and her twin sister finally exposed themselves. They hit simultaneous face busters in the ring...
Backstage, Carlito and Primo finally figured it out. Primo said twins were cool...
Twill’s Two Cents: Glad to see they finally pulled the trigger here. Could you imagine Jerry Lawler calling this match?
The same John Cena video from Monday aired, focusing on his rap character from his early WWE days. They then plugged his match with Chris Jericho at the Survivor Series...
The Undertaker vs. Vladimir Kozlov is coming up next... [C]
Footage aired of The Undertaker defeating Chavo Guerrero last week in a casket match...
[Q8] Vladimir Kozlov and The Undetaker both made their ring entrances... [C]
6. Vladimir Kozlov defeated The Undertaker by disqualification in 6:37. The pace was slow and plodding early on as both men were feeling each other out. Taker closelined Kozlov to the floor and followed him out. He hit the apron leg drop. Taker scored a nearfall after hitting a huge closeline.
Kozlov countered with a belly to belly suplex. He followed up with a series of rights and lefts to the midsection of Taker. Both men exchanged punches for a couple of minutes. Taker locked in the Devil’s Triangle but Kozlov reached the ropes. Jeff Hardy hit the ring and hit Kozlov with a chair, prompting the referee to call for the bell.
Hardy also hit Taker with the chair. Taker sat up and chased Hardy off. Taker reentered the ring and chokeslammed Kozlov. Backstage, Hardy told Vickie he would take out The Undertaker if she made an extreme rules match. Vickie agreed and booked the match for next week...
Twill’s Two Cents: Interesting finish and I am very intrigued with where they are going with Hardy. I was impressed with the show tonight.
