Daniel Bryan on his recent success: It’s strange. I’m not someone who people are supposed to like. It’s interesting because there is a small percentage of people who really like me and love chanting “Yes! Yes! Yes!” But there is also people who hate me, but also enjoy chanting Yes! Because I just think it’s a fun thing to chant. So it’s made for a very interesting dynamic. Then there is people who like to chant No!
When Alberto Del Rio is out there, they like chanting Si!. It’s been a fun little roller coaster ride. People who are cheering for me and who even though they might be in the minority a little bit, I feel like they are almost dissenting against the WWE because they just like the way I perform. It was actually a very nice surprise and I think the people’s support of me is the reason why I’m in the position now with this match with CM Punk on Sunday. I don’t know what their plans were for me after I lost to Sheamus in 18 seconds, but I don’t think it was this. Because people have been so behind me both positively and negatively, it’s really pushed me to the next level.
Daniel Bryan on the phenomenon of his "Yes!" chants: I never imagined it. It’s interesting because even before Wrestlemania, we would do live events and I would come to the ring and there would be a handful of dudes, usually in their mid-twenties who would be doing it, going Yes! Yes! Yes! Just Wrestlemania and especially the night after Wrestlemania with the Raw in Miami, the whole arena was doing it. It was such a cool atmosphere, and people realized it’s a fun thing to do
Daniel Bryan on how women are reacting to his verbal abuse of AJ: I get a lot of hate tweets on Twitter. So much to the point that I don’t really check it anymore, because so many people, especially women.. Oh my God! They do not like it at all. The dynamic between me and AJ is interesting. She is such a sympathetic character to get behind. It’s funny because my mom watches it and she is like “My son, why would you say that to that sweet young girl” (Bryan laughs) ‘Mom c’mon!. Then my mom would say “I did not raise you to treat women like that”. I’m like Oh c’mon! (Bryan laughs)
Daniel Bryan on how far he has come since he entered the WWE: It’s interesting because sometimes people will ask me my advice on how to get to the top. I tell them for me, one it was a lot of hard work, there is lots of people who work really hard. You know who is awesome and never has gotten a break? Tyson Kidd. He is unreal. But for me it’s been a lot of luck and being in the right place at the right time. If I had to come to the WWE in 2005, there would be a good chance I would be stuck at the bottom and never had gotten the opportunities that I have right now. I’ve been very lucky and received a lot of good opportunities, but then you also have to be in a position to where when you get opportunities, you have to be able to capitalize on them. That’s very important in WWE. If you get an opportunity and you are not able to capitalize on it, then you won’t be able to get an opportunity for a while.
Daniel Bryan on Brock Lesnar: I think Brock Lesnar’s impact has been positive. He has made the shows more exciting. I always like it when you bring in a guy like that who can really change the business and make a big difference. I would actually love to do a match with Brock. I know that’s probably not in the cards, but I feel like I can have a different type of match with him more than anybody else on the roster. As far as how everybody else feels about him, I know some people who don’t like it, focusing on a guy who doesn’t come to all the shows and who doesn’t do live shows, but I feel like anybody who increases interest and increases business helps all of us.
