Major WWE News: WWE Smackdown reportedly changing networks
Apr 12, 2010 - 08:38 PM |
WWE Smackdown is moving to the Syfy network, according to the Los Angeles Times. The story notes that while terms have not been disclosed, Syfy is believed to be paying close to $30 million per year for the programming rights. The show will continue to air on MyNetwork TV until it moves to Syfy this fall. To read the full story, visit LATimesBlogs.com.
Powell's POV: The WWE draft just got a lot more interesting, as WWE will be more likely to beef up the Smackdown brand now that the show is moving to a new network home. The story notes that the move is likely to be made in late September or early October. Obviously, this doesn't bode well for the fledgling MyNetwork TV. Although the extra revenue will be nice, I'm guessing WWE officials aren't happy about not having a presence on broadcast television.
