TNA Impact on Spike TV
Taped in Orlando, FL
[Q1] Footage aired of the interaction last week between Jeff Jarrett, Kurt Angle, and Mick Foley. The title of tonight's show is Mick Foley's happy face symbol. I guess he is like Prince now...
The opening video aired. Mike Tenay and Don West ran down tonight's card...
Jeff Jarrett came out to the ring with guitar in hand. Tenay said Jarrett had a major announcement. Jarrett proudly announced the signing of the greatest acquisition in the history of TNA, Mick Foley. He said Foley would be live in the Impact Zone next week.
Twill's Two Cents: The greatest acquisition? Enter Kurt Angle.
Kurt Angle's music hit and he came out to interrupt Jarrett. Angle took exception to Jarrett's announcement. He said he turned the outhouse that was TNA into a penthouse. Jarrett said he came out to set some things straight. He said he went back and forth about whether or not to step back in front of the camera.
Jarrett said things were not going right with some of the superstars. He pointed out AJ Styles. He said Styles left the Impact Zone with Kurt's gold medal and Jarrett is going to give it back to him. Jarrett said that despite their differences, nothing will change the fact that Angle became an American hero in 1996.
Angle mockingly thanked Jarrett and told him to get out of his ring. Jarrett left the ring. Angle chastised him as Jarrett left for the back. Angle called Jarrett a scared little bitch. He said he was a washed up loser like his father. He told Jarrett to tell his three little girls that he was a quitter. That set Jarrett off and he came back to the ring.
Jarrett said the things he has been through are things he would not even wish upon Angle. He said despite everything, he was not a quitter. Jarrett said if Angle was trying to coax him back into the ring, he succeeded. He said he would face Angle at Bound for Glory as his music played him off... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Nice segment. I like that Angle took exception to Jarrett's comments. I also like that Jarrett did not blow his top just yet. He is boiling but not ready to explode yet.
[Q2] Tenay and West talked about Bound for Glory IV being the biggest pay-per-view ever in TNA and the company is in the midst of change. I hope so...
1. Matt Morgan and Abyss defeated The Rock 'N Rave Infection (with Christy Hemme) in 2:54. Morgan tagged in and entered the ring with an impressive high crossbody on Rock. He then hit a dropkick. Abyss hit the Blackhole slam on Rock and the Shock Treatment on Rave. Morgan tagged in and hit the Hellevator for the win...
Team 3D came out to the stage. Brother Devon took the stick tonight and told Abyss and Morgan that their loss to them at No Surrender was a fluke. Devon ran down each company by name and how many times they were tag team champions in each of those companies. Ray chimed in with "And that is great, that is great." He is hilarious. Ray took the mic and plugged their match at Bound for Glory, which is now a Monster's Ball match...
Twill's Two Cents: I am starting to like Morgan and Abyss as a team and Morgan looked much better tonight in the ring. Kudos to TNA for making a non-title tag team match interesting and important.
A Rough Cut's segment aired featuring the hardcore Knockout, Roxxi...
Tenay plugged Styles vs. Booker for later in the show and Awesome Kong in action next... [C]
[Q3] Backstage, Lauren interviewed Beer Money Inc. Storm and Roode were serious in their desire to keep Jacqueline. Storm gave the brunt of the promo and did a fantastic job putting over the importance of Jacqueline to their team. Jacqueline was pissed and ran off...
2. Awesome Kong (with Raisha Saeed) defeated Mercedes Steele in 1:46. Saeed was announced but did not come out with Kong. Steele was explained as someone looking for a contract. Steele kept screaming like a little bitch. Saeed came down the aisle with chairs. Kong dominated before hitting the Awesome Bomb for the win...
After the match, Saeed came in with the chairs and set one up for an Awesome Bomb. All of a sudden, Raisha Saeed hit Kong with two chairshots. She then took off her mask and it was Roxxi the entire time. The real Raisha Saeed came out the stage tied up with rope. Referees separated Roxxi from Kong... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Great segment. I love Kong and I love Roxxi's push as someone who may be hardcore enough to beat her. Now, if we could just get rid of Taylor Wilde, we would be in great shape.
Karen Angle's special guest on her show was Christian Cage. Karen is hard to take seriously as a hostess because her huge tits are basically being unintentionally motor-boated by her guests due to her low cut dresses. Karen asked Cage about his place in the veterans vs. young guy's feud.
Cage said he was somewhere in the middle because he understands where Styles and Joe are coming from since they helped build TNA from the ground up. He also understands where Booker, Nash, Angle, and Sting were coming from because without them, the company would not be on national TV. Karen asked Cage to pick a side.
[Q4] Cage asked if there were actual sides established yet. I was thinking the same thing. Karen attempted to play the hard-nosed journalist and tried to get him to answer the question. Cage received a phone call from his agent and left the stage... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: This was the best Karen's Angle I have seen. Karen is a terrible actress and is obviously reciting something she memorized, but Cage turned the segment into gold.
Lauren interviewed LAX backstage. Hector Guerrero gave the promo and basically gave the standard promo about family. He said he would not let LAX down and he was a warrior... [C]
JB was inside of the best locker room ever with Booker T and Sharmell. Booker did his accent but ventured into an Italian dialect by saying "ting" for "thing." I notice these things. Booker wondered what the "A.J." in AJ Styles stood for. Booker told Styles to keep his enemies close, and his friends closer. JB tried to open the briefcase but was cut off...
Twill's Two Cents: Dot Net readers, did I hear that correctly? Did Booker say the famous line from The Godfather Part III backwards?
3. Beer Money and Jacqueline defeated LAX and Hector Guerrero in 9:41. Hector hit the three amigos suplexes on Storm. Jacqueline tagged and forced Hector to chase her up the ramp as the show went to commercial... [C]
[Q5] Everyone was back coming back from commercial. With the referee distracted, Roode smacked Hernandez in the head with Storm's football helmet and scored the pinfall...
Twill's Two Cents: At least Hector still has his announcing gig.
Sting was shown walking somewhere and he has something say... [C]
The greatest journalist ever, Lauren, laid in bed with Sonjay Dutt and SoCal Val just to get an interview. Val wanted Sonjay to reiterate to her that his dad was the richest man in India and that everything would belong to Sonjay upon his death. They sang "Give Us a Chance" and Lauren took off...
Twill's Two Cents: Oh shit; I thought this storyline was over.
Sting came out to the ring and told Jeff Jarrett that he loved TNA. He said Vince McMahon told him that he was giving up millions of dollars by not signing with WWE. He told Jarrett that he was not in it for the money. He said he liked what the young guys were doing in TNA but did not necessarily like them personally.
[Q6] Sting pointed everyone's attention to the big screen. The first photo was of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. The second was of Dusty Rhodes. The third was of Hulk Hogan. Sting said fans would call Hogan the best ever. The fans chanted "overrated." The next photo was of Ric Flair. Sting said Flair put him on the map twenty years ago. He continued to put over Flair.
The next photo was of Samoa Joe with all of the TNA belts. He said Joe did not know how to be a world champion. The final photo was of Sting with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. He said he would take care of business at Bound for Glory before retreating up the ramp... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: Great segment and great promo. I am not sure how doing this promo will help Sting in terms of being a heel, but I am more interested in Sting now than I have ever been. Great stuff.
Backstage, Lauren held a microphone as Morgan and Abyss argued over participating in the Monster's Ball match. Morgan said he spoke to Abyss' therapist and he said to look fear in the eye and conquer it. Morgan talked about beating up a bear. Okay...
Footage aired of the first Steel Asylum (Terror Dome) match. This is the type of shit Kurt Angle was talking about in terms of too many gimmick matches...
JB interviewed Samoa Joe. Joe apologized to Kevin Nash and told him he now understood where he was coming from. Joe cut a calm promo on Sting. Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed came in and thanked Joe for everything he has done... [C]
Twill's Two Cents: A bear?! A bear?! Come on guys.
[Q7] A promo aired for the new Suicide character. He definitely does not sound like Kaz...
4. Sheik Abdul Bashir defeated Samoa Joe by disqualification in a non-title match in 4:25. Bashir grounded Joe early and worked on his leg. He scored a few nearfalls while he had an ankle lock applied. Bashir locked in a single leg Boston Crab and Joe was able to get to the ropes. Sheik continued on the offensive before Joe hit a modified Rock Bottom from the corner. He then hit the Muscle Buster for the win...
After the match, Joe called out Sting. He then applied the rear naked choke on Bashir and the referee reversed his decision...
Twill's Two Cents: I enjoyed the match. Bashir was given some solid offense and I love watching Joe work, if even for a few minutes.
JB interviewed AJ Styles backstage. Styles talked about being proud of his small hometown. He yelled and screamed as the show went to commercial... [C]
[Q8] 5. Booker T (with Sharmell) defeated AJ Styles in 10:43. The match started at a very quick pace before the show went to commercial. Christian Cage came out and watched from the ramp... [C]
Booker had the advantage on Styles coming back from commercial. During the break, Styles landed a beautiful dropkick on Booker. Booker nearly scored the submission victory but Styles came back. He hit the springboard flying forearm for the two count. He followed that up with the Pele kick for another nearfall.
Earl Hebner took the obligatory ref bump at the ten minute mark. Sharmell came in to hit Styles with the briefcase but Christian stopped her and took the briefcase away. Styles stood up and thought Christian was going to hit him. Booker knocked Christian into Styles, grabbed the briefcase and hit Styles with it to score the win. After the match, Christian and AJ argued...
Twill's Two Cents: Well, that went downhill fast. Watch the tape AJ. Everything is cool. This was a disappointing finish to a good match on a good show. This is the typical bullshit they need to move away from.
This was the best episode of Impact I have seen in recent memory. What did you think? Let me know by shooting an email to dotnetrich@gmail.com.
