WWE touting first full-time female broadcast team member in more than a decade
WWE has announced that Renee Young has become the new host of the WWE Superstars television. The company is playing up the idea that she is the first full-time female commentator in over a decade.
"I feel there is definitely a certain amount of pressure, not only as a performer and broadcaster but representing women who may not even know this is something that they want to do," Young told WWE.com. "I can show other women that if you're not a Diva and you still want to be involved in WWE, there's so much you can do. It's definitely really cool to be in the position to create a bit of a niche for myself and other women."
Powell's POV: The WWE story also includes a quote from Michael Cole and identifies him as a mentor for Young. I don't know that this will make the masses pay more attention to the throwaway Superstars broadcast, but I do feel that Young is the bright young star of the WWE broadcast team and it's cool that she's getting the opportunity.
