WWE News: Mainstream media takes issue with Lana's promo at WWE Battleground
Several mainstream media outlets have offered criticism of the promo that Lana delivered at the WWE Battleground pay-per-view. Lana stated during the promo that Russia is being blamed for "current events" and added that the United States is war mongering in Iraq and Afghanistan. Powell's POV: The outlets who have covered the story include the Daily Mail in the UK, Deadspin.com, the Washington Post, New York Daily News, and TMZ. I can't say the WWE approach offended me in the least, but I don't offend easily. Perhaps I would be bothered by this if WWE had created this character following the Malaysian Airlines jet that was shot down, but her character has been praising Vladimir Putin for months. It will be interesting to see how WWE responds to the criticism tonight. The old Vince McMahon may have pushed it even more, but I have a feeling that the Vince who owns a publicly traded company may take a different approach.
