WWE Hall of Famer's son surprisingly cut by NFL team
James Laurinaitis was cut by the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL on Friday, according to ProFootballTalk.com. He is the son of Road Warrior Animal (a/k/a Joe Laurinaitis) and the nephew of WWE executive and on-air personality John Laurinaitis.
Powell's POV: I don't think it's time to start questioning whether James is going to make an immediate transition to pro wrestling. At age 29, he's never missed a game during his NFL career and he finished his run with the Rams as the team's all-time leading tackler. The move was made for salary cap reasons. James will surely be a coveted free agent and won't have any trouble finding a new team.
James grew up a WWE fan and was casually courted by by the company in college. He stated in an interview that he hoped his NFL career worked out well enough that he would not need to wrestle. "I know the beating my dad took from it," James once told The Lantern student paper at Ohio State University. "He had to have nine surgeries. He can't even lift his right arm above his head anymore." James later stated in 2011 that he would have considered doing something with WWE had their been a lockout due to an NFL labor dispute, though he stressed that it would have to be basic.
