Shore's WWE Smackdown Hit List: The Shield and Wyatts look strong, Kane kills Daniel Bryan's promo, Damien Sandow and Dolph Ziggler are wasted, and WeeLC gets too much time
WWE Smackdown Hits
Dean Ambrose vs. Ryback vs. Curtis Axel vs. Alberto Del Rio: A chaotic match that settled into a frenzied match and finished with a great visual for the Shield. How could this not be a Hit? Ambrose had good offense while still telling a believable story of having three heels trying to best him. Reigns and Rollins looked liked legit supermen when they came to the ring. The Shield is the hottest act in all of wrestling right now and if they continue to book them like this I'm not even sure the sky is the limit for the act.
The Wyatt Family vs. Sheamus and The Usos: The best called match on the show and the churning pace leads this to a big Hit. The match used the six men in a way that never left it slow and plodding, but the heroes of this match were the commentators. They setup the Usos vs. Rowan and Harper nicely, and I could see how Wyatt might spin off to Sheamus if his run with Cena is done. Oh, and Sheamus's bump is a must see moment. Can't question his toughness.
Daniel Bryan: Even though he started out slow, when Daniel Bryan turned the corner on this promo he drove it in for a big Hit. I honestly get the first half of the promo. He was connecting with the fans on a personal level and setting them up for his angry portion. But we didn't need that. Whether someone is married or not, they get the idea instantly that Kane attacked Bryan's wife. He doesn't need to relate, we already do. Still, the second half is so good that the first half is forgivable. It's a shame the Kane part wasn't (see below).
WWE Smackdown Misses
Damien Sandow and Dolph Ziggler: This is the best either of these guys can get or do? If I started a promotion tomorrow and had an expansion draft similar to the NFL these two guys would be one of my first few picks. Yet this is the best WWE can find for them. Ziggler does feel like he is phoning it in, so I'm sympathetic to why he isn't getting pushed, but Sandow gets stuck doing such stupid shit it's hard to say if he deserves it lie Ziggler or if this is all they can come up with for him. Neither guy deserves it as a talent however, and maybe if they gave Dolph something to do besides wrestle a guy with a curtain tied around his neck he wouldn't phone it in.
Kane: Kane had managed to take a flimsy start to this run and through utter silence built himself up to a believable threat to Bryan. Then they have to go and let him talk and play into the silly parts of the gimmick. The video was too over the top. The laughing went on way too long. And in the end, it sucked all the heat off of Bryan's promo to give the whole segment a miss.
WeeLC nonsense: Some of you are with Will Pruett on this and think this is great. Others of you side with me and think you must be on good drugs to find this entertaining. But can we all agree that giving these guys roughly eight minutes while giving Cesaro and company five is just wrong? Comedy has its place. I'm a firm believer in that. But this is too much at the expense of something that can actually grow the business. So odd.
