Shore's WWE Smackdown Hit List: The Shield, Sheamus vs. Bad News Barrett, and Bray Wyatt vs. Jimmy Uso all hit, while Big E, Rusev, Bo Dallas, and Adam Rose all miss
WWE Smackdown Hits
The Shield: Excellent promo from the Shield and the biggest Hit of the night as it relates to build for Payback. Seth Rollins was a bit of a surprise here with his mic work. He carried the bulk of the promo and did an outstanding job. Ambrose and Reigns certainly played their parts well, but they have been solid in their respective mic areas for some time. Rollins has grown into his role and showed how far he has progressed here.
Sheamus vs. Bad News Barrett: This was the Hit of the night as far as matches go. Sheamus and Barrett beat the hell out of each other before the break and then had a more technical match afterwards. Paul Heyman's commentary didn't distract from the match and he did a great job putting Sheamus over. While I still don't understand what they were trying to do with the post match gimmick between Sheamus and Heyman, it didn't take away from the match you want to watch from this show.
Bray Wyatt vs. Jimmy Uso: A mild Hit in that the match was pretty good, if somewhat hamstrung by the Last Man Standing stipulation. They really couldn't play into that like you should for one of those matches because they couldn't take away anything for Wyatt and John Cena to do on Sunday, but they made it work. It should have just been a regular match, at which point it would have rivaled Sheamus and Barrett. The but splash on the stairs at the end of the match was gruesome to watch. I bet Jimmy had to ice that up afterwards. Thanks god the trainer got practice on El Torito on Monday.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Big E and Rusev flag waving contest: This gets a miss because it was supposed to be a serious moment that put heat on their match on Sunday. Instead, I was guffawing at the silly picture of these two giants in a flag-waving contest. They were waving the shit out of those flags like whoever waved the hardest and fastest would be the winner. In fact, it was so funny that had being funny been the point it would have lead the Hits part of this article.
Bo Dallas: What the f*** is Bo Dallas? Is he a heel or a babyface? Don't tell me what he was in NXT. What is he on the main roster? Xavier Woods seemed content with Bo's hug after the match, and he does say inspiring things. So we should cheer him, right? Except, he is a little douchey about it, and the celebrating after a single hip toss is a heel move. So we should boo him, right? See my point? They are missing the mark huge with Dallas and I can't for the life of me figure out why.
Adam Rose: Rose continues to disappoint in the ring. He has decent ring skills, but these two-minute matches don't give him a chance to show it off. All they do is scream that he's nothing but a gimmick. Gimmicks are great and all, but gimmicks don't get over, wrestlers do. I was also surprised at the homoerotic overtones of the match. Not so much that those overtones were there, but that WWE chose to play up Jack Swagger's obvious lack of comfort with it. That's not exactly anti-bullying behavior.
