WWE Raw Hits
The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family: This wasn't their hottest match to date, but it was still very entertaining. Evolution coming out at the end of the show and performing the Triple Powerbomb on Roman Reigns was an effective way to give the faction some heat heading into the apparent rematch.
Sheamus wins the U.S. Title in a battle royal: A strong opening to the show. I'm normally not high on a wrestler winning a title in a battle royal, but it fit with the storyline of The Authority trying to punish Dean Ambrose because of their ongoing issues with The Shield. Plus, the reaction of Sheamus to Renee Young's question about how he feels about Ambrose losing the title in this manner sets up a potential heel turn.
Cesaro vs. Rob Van Dam: Cesaro was more ruthless and heelish than we've seen him. RVD did an admirable job of taking two beatings from Cesaro in two nights. I like the Cesaro has a mean streak and that it appears they intend to have him work like a straight up heel rather than having Paul Heyman generate all of the heat for him via his promos.
Daniel Bryan vs. Alberto Del Rio: A good match with Bryan playing up his injuries coming out of the Extreme Rules match to keep things interesting. It's odd that he actually sold his injuries here, yet he did not sell his injuries from the three Tombstone angle when he faced Kane on Sunday night.
Ryback vs. Cody Rhodes: The finish was clever in that Cody's character can reach to blame Goldust for the loss since Goldy being shoved into the ring post caused Cody to lose his balance on the top rope. I like the slow build to the apparent Cody Rhodes heel turn. However, we need to hear more from these two on Raw rather than only hearing them on Main Event and Smackdown.
Bad News Barrett vs. Big E: A good match with a clean finish for the new Intercontinental Champion over the old Intercontinental Champion. My guard is still up. Let's see if we can get through six weeks without Barrett losing a throwaway non-title match to a top star that doesn't lead to an actual title defense.
Alexander Rusev vs. Kofi Kingston: Another basic and effective squash win for Rusev, and a solid pre-match promo from Lana.
Mr. T's Mother's Day video: A hilarious recap of some of Mr. T's finest Hall of Fame speech moments. Did I miss it or did they fail to include the awesome urinary tract comment?
WWE Raw Misses
Daniel Bryan, Brie Bella, and Kane segment: Did Vince McMahon spend too much time on the set of "See No Evil 2"? As if having a demonic child cause John Cena to lose a match at Extreme Rules wasn't awful enough, now we have Bryan and Brie playing stupid teenagers in a slasher film. I expect some silliness with this version of the Kane character, but I hated seeing the WWE World Heavyweight Champion run away from the heel. I was able to rationalize it in my own mind that Bryan was trying to protect Brie early on, but they lost me with the car scene backstage when Bryan's character seemed to fear Kane as he was running away. I enjoyed the Bryan vs. Kane match at Extreme Rules, but I have no desire to see them feud again for another month. Can we please get to the part where the underdog champion faces wrestlers that the fans perceive as true threats to take the title? Hell, I'll settle for having Bryan get back to having actual wrestling matches rather than gimmick garbage matches.
Rematch month: I liked two of the top three matches at Extreme Rules, and I assumed going into the show that the one match it turned out that I did not care for (Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena) would result in the need for a rubber match. I was praying we wouldn't see another month of Daniel Bryan vs. Kane, and it looked like The Shield went over strong enough on Evolution that there wasn't the need for a rematch. Instead, all signs point to WWE delivering rematches of all three of the top Extreme Rules matches at next month's Payback pay-per-view. The matches might all turn out to be very good (how could the finish of Wyatt vs. Cena possibly be worse?), but I'm not excited about a month of repeat matches and the reader feedback is such that I know I'm not in the minority.
Adam Rose debut: I was fairly neutral about the debut of Rose. Sure, the crowd was into the theme song, but it's too soon to say whether they are into the actual act. They lost me when Michael Cole went into dork mode and danced to the music. There's no better way to make something seem uncool than to have Cole endorse it while in dork mode.
El Torito, Hornswoggle, Los Matadores, and 3MB: The WeeLC match was a lot of fun, but the feud came back to earth on Monday night via this hokey Cinco de Mayo skit.
